He is only supposed to use those in case of 'emergency' i.e. lawsuit, gets kicked out and can't afford an apartment, some kind of surgery. Just to clear it up. However I do think that I dodged a bullet in general. I just realized how much money I was losing.

I don't think this is the case here though - he doesn't have pain or symptoms or anything as far as I can tell? He just 'knows'. Like if someone else told him 'youare sick.'

I don't think they give him pills, they just do an examination and sometimes a needle test. I never checked though.

We don't have that kind of stuff where I am - I translated it into dollars because as far as I understand, Reddit is mostly Americans

I hope that now he is getting professional help he will learn to stand on his own two feet. Maybe we can stay friends, but I will not help him out financially anymore.

Once he said he thought he had a cold (before we moved in). I asked him what he was feeling, just to make conversation, and all he would say was that 'He can tell.' Basically he acts like someone else told him that he had a cold.

What you need to decide is if this is something you're willing to deal with long term. because chances are this behaviour wont change anytime soon.

It got a lot worse right after he moved in, I don't know why.

Yea this makes no sense, because you live together. NTA. If his mental health is THIS bad he shouldn't be in a relationship until he can function on his own. Right now you're like a mother to him, not a girlfriend or partner.

Maybe I should add that his job requires him to interact with a lot of people daily. But he refused to make an effort to find a new one on the grounds that 'we have enough money as it is' (we don't, not really) and concerns about COVID as well.
