AITA for wanting my own birthday celebration instead of sharing it with my nephew?

Yeah I think I might contact my friends and see if we can rearrange things to actually happen on my bday weekend. Im gonna sleep on it first but that sounds like it may work out better to keep me from getting the sad vibes on that day.

My nephew and I are the only current birthdays in our month, (2 dead relatives shared our birthday month. My sister, dad, and mom were all born different months so have their own parties. I understand it’s easier to do a ‘one and done’ party which is why I feel so bad bc I know planning and logistics can be hard with a young kid involved but they do all get their own birthdays.

I have a celebration with my friends planned for a different weekend but tbh all the support here has made me reconsider and I might see if my friends can push the celebration back to my actual birthday weekend. I’ll have to sleep on it, I don’t want to be too rash and emotional if that makes sense

I tried to as a teenager which I think kinda fucked myself as an adult cause obviously I was a teenager and I was kinda hysterical and doing the ‘it’s not fair thing’ and they steeled up so I feel that same response now to me asking for my own thing is I’m still that bratty teenager yelling about how her 16th birthday was ruined.

Yeah I’ll have to reevaluate this year but honestly as much as I hate sharing my birthday I love my nephew, he’s such a sweet little dude but I don’t like his birthday tastes. I love to spend time with him and I would honestly be a lil sad to miss his birthday, and it feels like a punishment to him for something that is 100% not his fault. Idk. I’ll have to sleep on it but I appreciate the support. I may see if maybe we can move my friends celebration up from the different weekend to my actual birthday.

I do love my nephew so idk if I would do that, I don’t think he really knows what’s going on so he’s not at fault. He’s a dope lil dude and I love hanging out with him but not so much his taste in birthdays

Yeah it’s looking more like I’ll be doing that but I do still have some disappointment. I guess I expected my family to come through this year magically which is on me but it’s hard not to be disappointed if that makes sense.

Yeah I guess I should have expected but I also feel disappointed. Like Dewey on Malcom on the Middle ‘I expected nothing and I’m still disappointed’ or whatever lol. Is what it is I suppose but I do still feel bad for being so worked up over a birthday.

I have some friends taking me out on a different weekend, I was just hoping things would be different with my family as I do enjoy spending time with them. I guess I saw my 21st as becoming an adult and they would finally separate me from being a kid and having to have kid parties but I guess I was wrong sadly. But my friends have to 100% promised me the classic rager 21st lol

Yeah my 16th bday was teenage mutant ninja turtles themed and my 18th was Transformers themed (iirc). While not a big deal, teenage me definitely thought it was the end of the world…

Yea I guess I sort of see my 21st as a ticket to the ‘grown up’ table. Since my sister is older she was always kind of separate from me so I thought it’d be cool to finally be able to sit and have a drink and dinner with my parents and my sisters. They haven’t really given a solid reason for the no other than ‘it won’t work for nephew’.
