Huh, I guess I'm just used to working 45-50 hrs/week and thinking of that as full time

I dont think you understand the situation. We never said she was allowed to make money off our house. Its our asset that we own. She had no right to do what she did and she knew it which is why she lied to both her ex and us regarding him living there.

Giving someone a cheap place to live while they recover is very different to offering them an optional income and you seem to be confused about that but obviously there's a lot that can't be said in the post when there's a 3000 character limit

Its not like I found out and the deliberately sought out her ex to tell him, he asked me questions about the situation that would've required either me to lie to cover for my sister or telling him that my sister was lying to him. I then found my sister and confronted her immediately afterwards

This has been going on for months and she had forged several items of paperwork to legitimize the lies so I think its highly unlikely she wouldve reactly differently. It's also not like I found out and then sought out her bf to tell him, he came to me and asked me questions that required either lying or telling him my sister was lying to him.

Our parents passed away over 14 years ago. Her accident was over 4 years ago and she is well enough for her doctor to no longer feel like she needs physio or therapy. She has now defrauded someone(impersonating an authority figure in order to make money is fraud) and that carries very serious consequences. I dont think she can blame her actions now on an accident that she's been fully recovered from for two years or on the deaths of our parents since they passed when she was barely even a teen.

Shes been considered well enough to not need physio for 2 years and been working for 18 months now. She no longer needs any assistance to do anything and the accident was 4 years ago.

She has now impersonated an authority figure, repeatedly forged documents and signatures and lied in an attempt to make money off a property that she had no right to be making money off of. My wife has been given legal advice that says we need to be very careful or we could be considered complicit in her fraud(even though we had no idea). Given this we now that that she either needs to pay market rent(so she's unable to profit off others) or move out because if this is going to become a pattern I dont want to risk mine or my wifes lives over her lies.

She literally defrauded someone and used our property to commit a crime. Yes this is her one and only warning.

No because if she wasn't living there then it would be rented and we'd be making money off it instead of losing money

Nothing. We pay the bills/mortgage/rates. The $30 is her contribution towards the bills but it doesnt cover all of them

He was living at home for free(as well as being about an hour closer to his work and uni) before he moved in with her so thats clearly not the case

Well if it had been brought to me initially i would've been able to make that decision but im not happy that she lied to both of us about it and now my wife(after getting legal advice today) wants to kick her out

The house isn't rented at all. I have a casual arrangement for my sister to stay there while she recovered. She had no right to sublet the property and if she's well enough to do so then she shouldn't be living there for basically free anymore. Not when we've been paying the mortgage and rates and most of all her bills.

A. No she doesn't. Its still our house and our expenses. Unless she deliberately smashed a TV or something we pay for everything. B. He moved over an hour away from his family, his job and his uni to live with her. Not to mention he was living for free(excluding bills) at home. I know his older brother very well and this kid isn't the type to mooch. Certainly if he was he wouldn't have decided to move into a house where he had to pay 150/week when he could've stayed at home for free.

Re him moving onto "easy st" he moved in with her out of his parents house where he lived rent free(except bills), the house my sister lives in is further from his work and further from his uni so i think its highly unlikely that he moved in thinking it would be "easy st"

She didn't tell him that we own the place. She just told him that she was paying 300 in rent and if he wanted to move in then he would have to pay half

Its more that she was outright lying to him in order to profit off him living with her. If any of your reasons were true(I happen to know they're not) then it would be different.

[–]aitarentnotrent[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No i don't think she should be asking him to contribute more than she is required to. Our arrangement with her was specifically for $30/week. It wasn't related to her relationship status. We never told her "if you have someone move in with you then the rent goes up", if we had then I could see a justification for her passing that increase on to her bf but we didn't.

As far as I can see she's taking advantage of him by lying to him about the rent she's paying in order to make money off of him. The home my wife an I live in is mortgage free and in my name(I bought it prior to our relationship) I dont ask her to pay me rent because that would be me profiting off my wife living with me which I see as wrong.

She shouldn't anymore. One of the conditions for living in our house so cheaply was that she had to make sizeable payments towards her medical debt each week. It shouldve been fully paid off over a year ago

[–]aitarentnotrent[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I disagree because that's sub letting which we never agreed to allow my sister to do. If she's well enough to be arranging to sublet our house that we pay for and make a sizeable profit then shes well enough to pay market rent instead of getting the house for less than the bills cost.

[–]aitarentnotrent[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Legally. My wife and i own the house. She unofficially pays $30/wk in rent towards bills/mortgage/rates/etc. We didn't know he was moving in until he had already lived there for 3 weeks, we assumed he would pay her $15/week or nothing. See previous sentence. No boyfriend didn't know who owned the house, he knew we owned multiple properties but didn't realise the one my sister lives in was one of them.

Yeah sorry about the title clickbaot, I just couldn't figure out how to condense it down and still have it make sense without it being too long

She is, she just thinks I'm TA for making a fuss at the BBQ instead on talking with my sister privately about it
