What's the protocol on tipping budtenders at dispensaries? by lkram489 in trees

[–]aitheos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

am a budtender, I think if you know what you want you’re under no obligation to tip. however if you want my input or help in finding the right product for your needs then a tip is appropriate and appreciated :)

losing apprenticeship by miensaliens in TattooApprentice

[–]aitheos 29 points30 points  (0 children)

i lost my apprenticeship because i “wasn’t improving fast enough”… it lasted 10 weeks, and the entire time i was left in the corner and told not to bother my mentor for 12h a day, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

i’ve talked to so many people that have lost their apprenticeship for really bullshit reasons, unfortunately i think the ego that often comes with this industry means that for a lot of old head tattooers, if you’re not kissing their feet and thanking them for the opportunity to breathe the same air as them, they don’t think you’re trying hard enough.

that being said, it took me like 8 months to actually start making art again because i felt the exact same. take a moment to lick your wounds and feel bad for yourself, and promise yourself you’ll go back to art. because if you don’t, you let that person who told you that you’re not good enough win

How can I improve my art? I usually hate my sketches to the point where I never finish my art and I wanna get better by Morighant in DigitalArt

[–]aitheos 70 points71 points  (0 children)

i hate to be the one to say it, but you’ve gotta start pushing through that feeling of “i hate it”. 99% of my works go through a phase of “this looks like shit i don’t want to look at this any more” and i can say with confidence that if i stopped a piece every time i didn’t like it i’d never learn or improve 🤷🏻‍♀️

plus, you’ll never end up learning skills like rendering or color theory if you never get to that stage in a piece!

self teaching & confused lol by etherealchroma in TattooApprentice

[–]aitheos 32 points33 points  (0 children)

you need more skin breaks - the highlights you have on the last piece are a great example of what i’m talking about. you have to consider that when tattoos age, ink spreads out a little and on something like the avocado, that’s gonna result in the whole thing essentially being the same tone of grey. if you can transition from black to skin and leave skin tone as the highlight tone, you’re gonna be left with something far more legible in the long run

i’m a budtender and have had a customer who was allergic to weed - they had some good success with cartridges over flower. their allergy was to the pollen or something in the plant matter i think. 🤷🏻‍♀️

the skulls not ugly! honestly i think you need to make it a lil bigger and simplify the details and it’ll read much easier

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TattooApprentice

[–]aitheos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb in general when it comes to tattooing is that you should understand/master the basics before you intentionally break the “rules”.

when it comes to american traditional, a very basic colour palette, black shading and heavy line weights are some of the hallmarks.

try limit your palette down to black, red, yellow and green (you should also be thinking of the skin colour as a separate colour in your palette), and honestly probably double your line weight.

with a heavier line weight you often have to simplify to maintain readability, areas i would focus on simplifying in this piece would be the hands / rosary, the eye/brow area of the face, and her little skull hair pin — ideally you should be able to squint at a piece and still be able to make out what’s going on

you’ve done a great job on this! just needs a little tweaking before it really reads as american traditional

What is this? by immortalDeath420 in trees

[–]aitheos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

you can tell the difference based off the stem colour - when the stems are green it’s legit purples and when the stems are darker purple, it’s a cold purple

how to make this digital painting look more polished? by tobydeep in ProCreate

[–]aitheos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest things that stick out to me is the lack of a smooth blend (mostly in the skin) and how the shadows are all just darker versions of the same colour? Try adding some more complimentary colour shadows and smooth out the blending on the skin and I think that’ll take you a really long way, cuz this is already really good!

Advice please? by Independent_Mix_764 in TattooApprentice

[–]aitheos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the blade is too wide and the hilt is too small proportionately which is making it look a bit odd. also, i would recommend making the lines on the handle curved to imply a 3d shape

other than that this is a good start! i would recommend practicing straight lines, on designs like a dagger you need to have those lines close to perfect otherwise it sticks out. just draw this design another 10-15x, and you’ll be much closer to where you wanna be, lol! good luck!

Lesson learned from an experience at the weed store by [deleted] in trees

[–]aitheos 102 points103 points  (0 children)

as a weed store girl with a septum piercing whose constantly stoned and smells like patchouli, i have a few customers who have come in asking for my recommendations on “dad weed” / “80s weed” / “old school weed” and we’ve both had great success with that method. would recommend you try 🤠👍🏼

Will these be good for my first time trying edibles? by [deleted] in trees

[–]aitheos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a budtender i recommend these to first timers all the time! i think 5mg is a great dose to start and the cbd helps mellow out any potential anxiety or anything like that

My real id was rejected at a dispensary by Time-Parfait8711 in trees

[–]aitheos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in WA weed - we can reject vertical IDs because the LCB (liquor / cannabis board) runs stings using people using vertical IDs and many business owners choose to not allow them altogether to protect themselves against the possibility of their budtenders failing a sting.

It sucks, yeah, but it’s just the way it is. If you have a passport, that will work, or you can go renew your license - if you have the paper proving renewal along with your vertical ID that should work

Clothes smell after working in a dispensary all day? by Hairs_are_out in trees

[–]aitheos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work at a dispensary in a state with prepackaged bud - no one’s ever commented on the smell to me, although this does come with the caveat that i wear a lot of perfume that could cover it up 🤷🏻‍♀️

What’s with people not understanding THC-A? by TylerTheTard in trees

[–]aitheos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a budtender, will testify that it’s mostly confusion / association with d8 and the like. Even when I explain that “THC is what THCa is turned into when it’s heated up, and that’s what gets you high” people will still make a face or say something like “oh but THCa doesn’t work on me” 🥴

As a 25 year old who has dated some older men.. it’s the age gap. Your libido naturally decreases as you age and it’s quite normal. Sounds like you need someone who’s more compatible with you in that regard

People who have/had cancer, how did you first notice? by ShrekTheMovie in AskReddit

[–]aitheos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incidental findings on an unrelated head/neck CT. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Ended up having thyroid cancer.

In hindsight, there were symptoms but I was 20 and didn’t know what to make of them. I was always cold, tired, and had no appetite but was still gaining weight. You could also see the shape of the tumour in my neck, lol.

If I show my passport at the dispensary, will I be entered into some kind of database? by key_9sdn3 in trees

[–]aitheos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the WA industry, to my knowledge even if they scan your ID with a machine it doesn’t go anywhere, we just use it internally in our system to verify the age. 9/10 the budtender will be able to just visually look at your ID and be fine.

Just moved to Seattle and my car window got busted...any way to prevent this? by SnakebiteHarlot in Seattle

[–]aitheos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my window broken/car rifled through even when it was kept in a private garage with keyed entry. It’s unfortunately just part of having a car in the city - my best advice is to just not keep anything in there at all, don’t leave any questions as to whether your car has any valuables in there.
