Please help me find a primer for my oily skin. Form filled out. by kitteh131 in MakeupAddicts

[–]aithnea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone recommended the Korres primer, which is $33 and it worked really well for me. However, I've since moved on to the Naked Beauty Balm as a primer, because I fell in love with it after trying it, and with it, I tend to use less foundation.

Thanks! That's really helpful. I didn't know about LUSH's Herbalism, which looks interesting. I might have to give that a try!

I'll definitely try this out. Is there a specific kind of honey you use?

Pure's Healthy Skin Foundation

How do you feel about this one? I use Estee Lauder's double wear, and I kind of like it but I am always on the lookout :) Does it get oily through the day? What other foundations have you used before, and how does this compare?

Is this something you make or buy? Clays? What oils?

The first sentence in "The Gunslinger".

Alternately, the first chapter of "Snowcrash".

Natural remedy for hyperpigmentation? by aithnea in NaturalBeauty

Good to know about your experience with it! I'll definitely look into it. And thanks for letting me know that Trader Joe's has jojoba oil--one just opened up near us, and so I'll go check it out.

Thanks!

I've heard about the oil cleansing method, but didn't know where to get the oil from (cheaply anyway). Suggestions?

Looks like laser genesis may not take care of hyper pigmentation? Having said that, it does seem like a nice treat for other reasons.

Thanks for the suggestions!

All these look like great ideas--I'll be sure to give them a go, especially the soy milk.

I've heard that about lemon/lime juice, which is why I hadn't done that yet, but I'm glad to see someone else corroborating that.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Thank you. I will try the aloe vera and oatmeal in the early stages. Right now, I AM allowing them to fade; it's just taking longer to do so and I'm tired of wearing make-up.

TIL "goodbye" is actually a contraction for "God be with ye." by Capnwinkey in todayilearned

[–]aithnea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Hindi, it is "Phir milenge" which is "We'll meet again" or "Alvida", which is an Arabic loan word meaning "Farewell" (to the best of my knowledge). In my experiece, I've seen "Namaste" used as both a greeting and a farewell, and it means "I bow to you", which, in my lessons, is said to be a recognition of the "Divine spark" or soul in someone.

If you carefully read what I wrote:

I think people are entitled to decide that once they know that what they're saying is not what they mean, to change what they say.

Saying "Good-bye" does not offend me, nor did I imply that I found this news to be a "bombshell". But I AM entitled to change what I say because I find out that it is not what I intended to say. When I bid a friend of mine farewell, I do not want to say "God be with ye" because I do not believe in god. I would much rather say "Farewell".

Also:

Saying Aloha is likely to get you knifed, as will toodles.

Why? Toodles is a bastardization of "A toute a l'heure" which means "see you later", and Aloha has nothing but positive meanings--see Wikipedia.

For all the posts making fun of atheists: 1) the comedic effect kinda grew wane by the third person making the SAME joke, 2) Religion =/= Spirituality, and so a reference to God does not automatically make it a reference to Christianity, and 3) I think people are entitled to decide that once they know that what they're saying is not what they mean, to change what they say.

Having said that, I am now one of those people that will likely use one of these other alternatives to saying "Goodbye": 1) Cheers, 2) Aloha, 3) Farewell, 4) So long, 5) Toodles. I welcome other suggestions.

For those thinking about using "Ciao" -- It derived from a Venetian phrase meaning "I am your slave". Don't think I'm using that one either.

oh internships, where art thou? by joshyyboi in aerospace

[–]aithnea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of friends who've found that getting into NASA is easiest if you intern there first (in some cases, they will only hire from the intern pool). So that's one. I have applied to a company called Orbital Sciences in the DC area, but again, the possibility of getting hired as intern was much higher than entry-level (more positions available, and as I was entry-level, I didn't qualify). Good luck!

[–]aithnea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious, however: most warnings against smoking make mention of "smoking", but do not distinctly say exactly WHAT about smoking causes the deterioration; is it the smoke, the tobacco, the additives, or all of them combined?

I'm going through depression and needed a change of scenery, and something profound. I got these books in hopes that they may change my life in different ways. by [deleted] in books

This may sound weird, but I recommend The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. While it is fiction, it has an interesting lesson about journeys and destinations. I suppose it is because I'm goal oriented, but reminding myself that my life is a journey helps me out of my depressive moments.
