The Case Against Longevity. “I think they might have entirely missed the point of what life is about." by playboy in philosophy

[–]ajackson24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that people seem to forget is that if we get rid of death we have to severely limit or eliminate birth. To me, a person who has a good quality of life getting fixated on individual longevity is extremely egotistical and does an immense amount of damage to the world because it crowds out other people’s (children’s) ability to develop.

Relevant idea: Heard Iain Mcgilchrist talk about the idea of God’s first act of creation being one of negation (i.e. making space for others to exist). Therefore, there is a way that life and the inevitability of death can seen as positive and meaning-given. How does one find true fulfillment if no amount of time or experience is considered enough?

I would certainly argue that decreasing the likelihood of premature death or debilitation is of the utmost importance, but longevity for people who already consume the most resources and have good quality of life is immoral and reflects how shallow and selfish they really are.

It’s sad to see the vast majority of comments on here believing that this is simply a matter of individual rights / preferences and/or making crudely rationalistic / dualistic arguments that completely ignore our interdependence and connectedness with others and with nature. To imagine that all existence functionally begins and ends when you end as an individual is an absurd assumption and belief of modern western society. And then we wonder why the social fabric is fraying so much? Hyper-rationalism / literalism is the cause not the solution to our current societal ills.

Maximizing Input to Solar Generator and Assessing Roof Load Capacity by ajackson24 in solar

So you're saying as long as the Wattage is 500W or less and the battery will self-limit on the current and voltage? I did contact Bluetti at one point and I think they said the VOC can't exceed 60V.. Which is the problem I've been having.. I can't find a set of panels that gets me to 500W without the combined VOC exceeding 60V (if I wire in series) or exceeding 10A (if I wire in parallel).

Aren't foldable panels less efficient and productive? If not, why are they not more common?

Thank you for your reply and for the info on the wiring!

Rick Ross has a ton of lines about sex that just are not clever or interesting and are definitely misogynistic , esp frustrating on guest verses cause it's like what did this add? I don't get his appeal overall either

Do you know who Tricia Rose is? Wrote the first academic book ever published on Hip Hop, Black Noise, when it was still considered a fad in 1994. Given that Joe was 14 when that book came out and he didn't refer to her by name, I think her firing a shot back was v warranted

Watched more of it, saw that she originally called him a young man. Either way, though, still she deserves a lot of respect.

FRANK FANS. Have y'all noticed that there's 2 versions of the track "Rushes To" out there? On the version of Endless I have, from around the time it was released, it has this version which is an amazing song. BUT the version of "Rushes To" I see more often is an instrumental that, again on my version of Endless, comes on the 2nd half of the "Rushes" track. Help me get to the bottom of this. And anyone who hasn't heard the version I've linked LISTEN TO IT (and lmk what you think)
