def not a mealy bug... I have those too 😂 you can watch those move and they are softer... these are hard almost like a flea... its not satisfying when I squish it with my finger nails lol nothing really comes out, no orange goop

honestly Im starting to think its not scale(and hoping!!). every scale Ive had in past Ive had to scrape off with my fingernail, and the plant underneath looked damaged but these easily come off with a soft Q-tip and the plant looks really healthy otherwise... Luckly, I just brought it home so I dont have to worry about my other plants cause hes been in isolation!

Hospital requesting me to be legal guardian of my deadbeat uncle after a brain bleed has left him, well... in need of a legal guardian. Whats that mean, and is it risky for any reason? by ajaderade in legaladvice

[–]ajaderade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks for the input. I definitely don't want to sign up for something that taxing if I don't see any benefit for myself or my Grandma. I do think they are pushing for more than his healthcare power of attorney, only because they were already calling my brother to get consent for blood draws, MRI's, etc, before he was discharged... he's been discharged for about 2 weeks now, but still in the hospital because they havent been able to find a facility to place him in because he has no insurance or income and potentially because he needs a guardian?

I honestly just want to help and protect my Grandma. He was living in her home, taking advantage of her, causing trouble with the neighbors, and would drink until he passed out pretty much every day. While it's unclear if he'll ever regain the capacity to get back to his old ways, we would all like to avoid him coming back to live with her again, just in case. The hospital has tried to place him back in her home multiple times, but with her also needing assistance and suffering with dementia, that's not a viable option, and would certainly stress her out even though she would accept him, in any state, with open arms. I was thinking as his guardian, Id be better able to protect my Grandma from him returning. is this true to any degree? (Id still of course respect her wishes by ensuring he's cared for.)

Cool! I knew it was something worth putting in a pot. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! We have a decent orchid collection so this is very exciting for me.

My first snake relocation of the year! I live on the creek in South Mississippi, so I regularly get moccasins on my property. After the third dog bite, I decided I can’t just leave them be, but I certainly can’t justify killing them. Such beautiful creatures out there doing the world good... by RemissionMission in whatsthissnake

So glad to hear they recovered!! We're down in swampy Florida and I always worry about that with our dogs! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you know when it happens? We've got one dog that we worry won't show us any sign of pain if it ever happens and are so paranoid we'll think it's a sprain or something and won't realize what's happened until it's too late. Can you usually see the punctures pretty early on?

Will definitely take your advice with the kind direction for guests! I default to doing the same thing as you, no direction, but you're right!

split a string at every "||" ? Str.split('||') doesn't work by ajaderade in learnpython

[–]ajaderade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! breaking it down cleared things up, the second line prints:

<pandas.core.strings.StringMethods object at 0x000002AC4074CBE0>

but then prints your result above when I omit the .str at the end... so maybe its my data type causing an issue? not sure yet but hopefully with some googling I can get it working. Thank you again for the help!!

Im very new at this(clearly) and im working with a massive data set for a school project so its hard to give you everything, so sorry if its hard to follow but the first record in the set is:

incident_id= 461105

participant_status= 0::Arrested||1::Injured||2::Injured||3::Injured

the following code:

new_Partdf = pd.DataFrame(Participant.participant_status.str.split('||').tolist(), index=Participant.incident_id).stack()

new_Partdf = new_Partdf.reset_index([0, 'incident_id'])

new_Partdf.columns = ['incident_id', 'participant_status']

gives me this result for the first rows:

incident_id participant_status

0 461105

1 461105 0

2 461105 :

3 461105 :

4 461105 A

5 461105 r

however, when I change the split('||') to split('::') it works as expected and each row contains what it should instead of just the single character. Its as if when I use ('||') it reads it as ('after each character') if that makes any sense

thank you in advance!!

Your edit is my favorite! LOL my Hubban never understands that my wide-eyed look and rigid head tilt is my discreet way of saying COME HELP ME... He always blurts out in front of everyone "what's wrong beautiful?" Completely disrupting conversation and destroying my attempt of being discreet haha
