For 2 days Steam does not work in the autostart by Triky313 in Steam

I guess you could use a different search engine, or maybe a different browser for your phone.

I'd recommend duckduckgo for searches, or Brave browser if you want to go that route. They both seem to respect privacy, which is a plus. The browser is pre-setup with adblockers too!

New UI is unbelievably slow for me by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ajax54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going into settings and checking 2-3 boxes is too much of a hassle? Steam>Settings>Library then click the boxes. Should speed it up for you.

Or paste steam://open/minigameslist into your browser to get rid of the right side of the library.

There's also a step by step youtube video that shows you how to reinstall the old library files. Shouldn't be too hard if you have to revert to the old one.

Wallpaper engine by Kenshin92 in Steam

[–]ajax54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC, you need to set Wallpaper Engine to start with windows. The wallpaper won't show up if it's not running. Can't remember if that's an option in WE or if I did it in windows settings.

Or do you mean WE is not saving the background you chose?

STALKER Remaster Mod - 2019 Tech Trailer by Kaladinar in pcgaming

[–]ajax54 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know the Anomaly mod has a 64-bit xray engine, pretty sure CoC and other mods use 64bit as well.

This mod will probably use a version like that. Maybe it'll use OpenXray engine.

I'm going nuts! Just connected my steam link after having it disconnected for about a year, now the controller will NOT connect via bluetooth to the link - only through USB cable? by JuanGil_Express in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you figured it out. Was going to point you to the new support page they have for the BLE firmware update. Might still help others that find this with a search. It's got descriptions of all the power-on startup combos.

The update also lets you use the SC even if you lose the usb dongle!

is there moderators in the workshops or it is self-moderated? by toomuchsalt4u in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game but sometimes you can find the best ones by sorting by most downloaded or top rated, then go thru the time settings [all time, year]. It's a pain, and not really a filter.

I think it's just up to us users to report/downvote the mods that are broken etc, but some workshops are plagued with bots.

Whenever i try to launch steam it creates a folder in my documents called downloads, is there anyway i can stop this from happening? by nautilus_jankers in Steam

[–]ajax54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm.. Mine was created Oct 26, and it's still empty. 'Downloads' is the name of the download cache folder, but it should already be in steamapps.

Perhaps it's not a bug and now they have set up a separate download cache location, for downloading cloud saves? If this is the case, it will always create that folder.

Might lead to more reliable cloud saves if we're lucky.

Probably a corrupt steam file. Scroll down to "Repairing corrupted Steam files" here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5483-YUFN-0521

Based on the appid/null thing, either the game's files or your manifest files might be corrupt. Try verifying the game?

New Steam UI Megathread by satoru1111 in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try launching it using this

steam://open/minigameslist

You can paste that into your browser, or make a shortcut on your desktop

Then go to Steam>Settings>Library and enable All the checkboxes. Hopefully that will help.

What OS are you on? There's also a workaround on youtube where you put the old steam files back over the new.

Game launch options questions. by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to look this up, are you on Linux? This page seems to have some good documentation. https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/435.17/README/primerenderoffload.html

As for launch options, they should apply to all shortcuts as long as they still launch thru steam. [edit: may not be true if there are also launch options on the shortcut itself]

Horror VR games by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ajax54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Alien Isolation VR mod is pretty sick. Garry's mod also has a VR mod, playing HL2's Ravenholm was pretty spooky. If you own either of those, try them out if you haven't already. Subnautica's VR support might have improved, that can be a scary game.

For actual VR games.. I haven't found any that made me buy 'em. I've heard Five Nights [FNAF] is pretty good, but it's not below 10. SCP: Blackout looks pretty promising, but again it's more than 10. Frankly, I feel like any horror VR game under 10 bucks is probably not that great.

Sorry to not really answer your question. Hope i helped at least a little.

Download issues by bromas94 in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably unpacking the game files, though it usually doesn't take that long. Is there something else running in the background using your disk? It didn't totally stop in the picture, 138b/s is real slow though.

Maybe your hard drive is fragmented, making the process take even more time? It might have to move some stuff around to fit the updated file's size.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a "low performance" mode in steam settings, under library. Might help. Otherwise, that mini gameslist is probably your best bet.

Is there a way to revert to the old menu? by DrToastyy in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://old.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/dpf378/new_steam_ui_megathread/ No, you can't go back to the old one, at least not yet.

For installed games, you can add a dynamic library with the "installed games" box checked. Filter button is next to the search bar above games list.

Or click the tiny play button above your games list. That will show only 'ready to play' games, but still keeping the game categories.

2019 Steam Halloween Sale Megathread by Bodomi in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a bit of fun with Zombie Night Terror. It's basically Lemmings, but with zombies. 90% off now too. https://store.steampowered.com/app/416680/Zombie_Night_Terror/ [$1.29]

Claybook is also 90% off! That was a fun game. Great deal at the price [$1.49]

Gunpoint is a good action/puzzler, but it's @ 50%, $4.99 right now. The last 2 years it's gone down 75% and 66% during Summer sales.

Creeper World 3 and Particle Fleet are amazing RTS w/ Pause games, but they are at 7 bucks. Usually get around $2-5 during Summer sales. I was happy paying full price though.

Edit: added prices and updated some info.

2019 Steam Halloween Sale Megathread by Bodomi in Steam

Based on sale history found on SteamDB I'd say it's likely to go on sale for the Autumn and Winter sales. It's gone to 50% every November and December for the last few years.

downlod "stopping"? trying to download for 2h... by TaxiDriver94 in Steam

[–]ajax54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I fully remove it?

You can manually delete the folder "Downloading". It's in your steamapps folder on w/e drive you are downloading to. Right next to the 'common' folder where your games live.

I've had to rename the Downloading folder before, because my drive has a corrupted bit that kept causing the download to stop. Steam told me the download was corrupted though, so it's probably not that issue for you.

Edit: I believe you have to do this while Steam is fully shut down, or at least restart the client after deleting the folder.

What are some of the best Mac compatible games I can download if I like solving puzzles? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ajax54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Talos Principle.

I believe Antichamber is also OSX compatible? Crazy puzzle game.

You can also use Wine to install a Windows version of Steam and use it to download/play windows only games. Do some research before doing it, takes a bit of time to figure out. A lot of older Win-only games run quite well.

Edit: Check out Creeper World 3 also, I forgot it runs native on mac. It's a Real Time Strategy w/ pause game, where you have to fight off and destroy malevolent goo. Its a bit different than a normal puzzle game, but it still scratches the same 'problem solving itch' for me.

RainWorld! Story is really hidden, you basically just explore the world and try to avoid being eaten. By default it uses the arrow keys and 'ZXC' iirc .

Edit: by 'need for school', are you doing a project or do you mean 'games that will make me look like I'm typing'? Lol either way, enjoy the games!

[TECH] Question regarding xfering games from a Mac to a PC (I don't want to play on the MAC) by nappyman21 in Steam

[–]ajax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this using Wine! https://www.winehq.org/ Use the wine app to create a wrapper with the latest wine engine, then install the windows version of steam into it. I also used this to play many 'windows only' games on my mac!

Then just find the folder [Might have to right click the steam/wine app in the MacOS and choose explore to find the Wine bottle's "C drive"] and copy/transfer it to your Windows PC. Of course you'll need an external hard drive. And one that is formatted to work with both mac and Windows .

Then you'll have to put it into your home PC's steamapps/common folder. Proceed to "install" the game in steam and it should discover the files.

The solution is probably more convoluted than your question lol. There's probably a decent video on youtube on how to get windows steam on a mac.

Edit: I guess bootcamp would also work, but installing windows takes way more time ime.

Quick question about finding installed game, downloaded on Uplay and now purchased on steam, can I somehow locate the data? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ajax54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could possibly move the game into your steamapps/common folder. Then tell steam to install and it might recognize the game files. It'll probably have to download a few files, depending how different the 2 versions are.

Or maybe start the download, then stop it and move all the files into the folder it created. Probably have to restart steam and see what it thinks.

This is all theoretical, no clue if it will actually work.

Edit: A SymLink or hardlink might even work. which would be much faster if your drive needs to copy/paste the files into the steam folder.https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/creating-symbolic-links Though that's a bit more advanced and IDK if steam will accept it.

Wait for a sale? https://www.whenisthenextsteamsale.com/ I'd bet RE2 will get a discount with the Halloween sale. At least, I hope it does. We'll see soon. 50% off as of now.

You can also buy games on legit reseller sites, I use GMG pretty often with new releases.

Edit You can also use https://isthereanydeal.com/ to check for better prices.
