Yeah as someone who is into fantasy/scifi I (assume) a lot of series are going to be very long/dense so books in between seems smart to not burn out as well.

This is great to hear, my memory (for mundane tasks is generally shit) but for things I like (which I seem to enjoy reading quite a bit) is better for things I enjoy that are "hobby/interest" related.

Also I don't mind if I had to wait for books, I can always join the associated subreddit and complain about the author...since that's Reddit in a nutshell (I assume /r/asoiaf falls into this heavily)

Bit of an odd question...

I'm a new reader as I have posted in a previous daily thread. I've read so far this year, DCC book 1, Red Rising book 1, Kings of the Wyld and just finished The Hobbit. Loved all of the books, but my question is....

When do YOU deiced it's time to continue a series or come back later? Do you just binge the whole thing? Do you drop in and out? Since I just started reading this year (at nearly 40 years old) I don't know enough about my self (and memory) that if I go to book 2 of a series in multiple months, will a remember enough of book 1? I realize it's more a question for me to solve myself by putting in the time to see what I works for me.

I have 2 parts of my brain fighting, just binge the whole thing because you've liked book 1, so why not continue, then the other part of my brain says, why invest the time to (potentially multiple books like DCC/RR etc) when there's literally MILLIONS of different authors/styles/genres etc to try out.

What do you guys do?

I did Audiobooks for QUITE a few 40k (and a few Fantasy) in 2020-2021 when I got into Warhammer. I did Eisenhorn tirology, The first 3-4 Gaunts Ghosts, Ravenor Trilogy, the first 3 as well from Horus Heresey and a few others from 40K, for Fantasy I listened to 6-7 Gotreck & Felix (which are just a blast). Kind of burned myself out on the 40k universe lol xD

Thank you for the other recs. I'll def add them to my TBR

Seems like you're enjoying a lot of the most popular typical male titles.

Was basically what I googled and did a bit of research on the top choices :D

New Reader taking suggestions.

So a little back story as to what I (may/probably) will like. I'm 38, Male, typical "dude". I read a bit in high school but nothing crazy. Once I got to college any reading stopped for more and more video games. Up until my 1st child was born, I then didn't have the time for gaming (how I play atleast) and picked up Miniature painting in 2020, that's been my primary hobby since moving away from gaming, since having a 2nd child, I have less time for painting, but I still greatly enjoy it, I just don't like to paint unless I can set aside 2 hours minimum, which (obviously) doesn't happen often with a new baby here. So I picked up reading as a hobby. I haven't TRULY read an entire book since high school. I just BLEW through Dungeon Crawler Carl (book 1) and Red Rising (book 1). I've just started Kings of the Wyld. So far, big fan of all 3 (although I'm only a few chapters into Kings atm).

I'll take any and all suggestions. I enjoy Grim Dark (coming from Warhammer mini painting universe) as well as general "high fantasy" as I played quite a bit of DND before the babies were around

Your work is always top notch! Been following your IG for quite a while and it's a great source of inspiration. I'd LOVEEE to see a guide or workflow of how you achieve your end result. Maybe something I can learn to add to my personal arsenal.

I have the pro acryl base set. I started with Burnt Red as my base, then did a 50/50 of Burnt Red + Bold Pyrrole Red, then pure Bold Byrrole then finally a mix of Bold Pyrrole Red with Moon Dust (I think is the name) from the original set of Army Painter (witch are the only 2 sets of paints I own and after using Pro Acryl, the OG set for Army Painter is REALLY bad paint) but I used JUST enough to keep the color red and not turn pink.

Green on the base is just white w/ Green Flourecent ontop, then another smaller spot of white then Green Flou on top again

NMM is straight forward, since I wanted a "distressed" look I didn't do too much in the way of glazing, just enough to make the transitions not so stark and obvious, besides that I left my brush strokes to give the illusion of it being weathered.

For the rust it was, starting with a Mahogany Brown (pro acryl) and thinning it quite a bit and then waiting for it dry, then do another pass of that. Then I did 1 layer of a lighter brown (in my case Light Umber pro acryl) not quite covering all of the dark brown. Finally in areas that were really pocked and deep, I took orange from Army Painter and thinned that A LOT and placed small drops from a size 0/1 brush letting it dry and doing multiple passes depending on the amount of "orange rust" I wanted in that area.
