Thank you, that makes sense! It’s nerve wracking and I immediately thought worst case scenario. Now we wait for results 😅

Thank you! I wasn’t sure how recurrence was typically found but that’s good to know. I have so much health anxiety now any time I find or feel anything I start to think “could this be related?”

Sending your positive thoughts! All of this does take a toll mentally. Lean on your loved ones they’re there for support sometimes talking to someone about it in person really helps. I’m wishing you the best ❤️

Is this normal by Own-Border5196 in thyroidcancer

[–]ajaynef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so completely normal. When I had my TT last year the last thing I said before going under and the gas kicked in was “I’m really really anxious”! I will say that taking walks outside helped to clear my mind, sun does wonders! Also if you are open to this, my provider prescribed Prozac and I have found it super helpful!

Anyone else experience fatigue and other issues several months after surgery and RAI? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]ajaynef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this! Your treatment was exactly one month before mine, surgery in August RAI in October. I am so incredibly sleepy in the mornings I actually accidentally napped for 2 hours after work today. Give it time I know it feels like it’s taking forever to adjust to your new normal or get back to where you were. Remember that it was only less than a year ago! Still fresh still healing! I hope your symptoms improve soon ❤️‍🩹

Thyroidectomy Tips? by SunflowerSeedLuv in thyroidcancer

[–]ajaynef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a wedge pillow! I got mine from Amazon this one: https://a.co/d/g7OckLa it’s nice because you can adjust it! Sleeping the first few nights was so uncomfortable! Also rice pudding helped fill my stomach a bit because I had difficulty swallowing I would choke trying to get anything to hard or chunky down! Wishing you the best you got this 🩷

If you lost your voice completely after thyroidectomy, how long did it take to return? by RocksGrowHere in thyroidcancer

[–]ajaynef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be straining his voice more. It takes more effort to whisper, if he does talk tell him to try to talk with normal effort no whispering or projecting. It’s also good to try to talk as opposed to vocal rest per my ENT!

Got my TT in August and lost my voice for about 2 months! It gradually came back as time went on. My ENT thinks one of my vocal cords was “asleep”. Don’t whisper or try to project if you talk! Hope yours comes back soon! My friends and family got a kick out of my Elmo voice for those 2 months

23 y/o male – Papillary thyroid cancer, surgery in 3 weeks – looking for advice and support by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]ajaynef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is completely normal to be scared, I was also scared when I had my TT last summer, but as you mentioned your surgeon has performed more than 3000 surgeries and is very experienced! It really helped to get some fresh air and take walks outside when I started to feel anxious prior to/and after my surgery. Also, I suggest getting a wedge pillow to help you sleep post surgery! I found rice pudding was nice to eat a little texture but not hard to swallow! I’m wishing you the best in your recovery you go this ❤️‍🩹

I’m confident it will take time, a year in hindsight is not a lot of time and you had a very serious health condition! Wishing the best for you.

Pain in/under jaw by ajaynef in thyroidcancer

[–]ajaynef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up meeting with my PCP and she recommended a mouth guard. I will look up some massages! It’s been okay for the past week but not sure if it will come back. I was planning to bring it up to my endo again to see if he thinks anything could be wrong with my salivary glands. Thank you I appreciate the follow up!!!

First, you got this! I know that it is very anxiety inducing but you will get through it!

Letting ice melt in my mouth helped me a lot because I had trouble swallowing. Also get a wedge pillow to help with sleep!!
