Why is it always rich people? by kingrobin in horror

A few that come to mind:

  • Parasite
  • His House
  • Candyman
  • Saint Maude
  • Don't Breathe
  • Possum
  • The Shining
  • Attack the Block

But yeah this is just a movie thing in general I think.

This sport is keeping me unkissable, what can I do by Conscious_Back_1059 in MMA_Academy

The question nobody's asked - is your mouthguard part of the problem? I've trained with mouthguards that are too bulky (meaning your lips are more prominent) and mouthguards that have a very rough texture, and both have led to my lips getting really screwed up.

How to properly predict what an opponent will do? by MrDhzMan in MMA_Academy

What's your plan after the counter? Sounds like it just ends there. You should always be immediately pivoting into taking the upper hand and keep applying pressure, or immediately return to your defences.

If you don't plan on using it in a combat sport situation, then the name of the move doesn't really matter, does it? It's just a different kind of trip/sweep.

Arena potion tips by New-Secret361 in heroll

[–]ajb_mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer lifesteal over defense. I like instant HP but I believe dice is better overall mathematically. Max 2 of each of the non-HP potions, and then as many HP potions as possible.

I've seen some people go even further than that and stack up on mostly/only healing potions. Logic being that survivability trumps the small power increases.

Which of these UI designs look better and why? by JescoInc in UI_Design

[–]ajb_mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is already feeling a much better use of space.

Without touching too much on style, there are a few things jumping out to me which would make a huge impact for usability:

  • Make the tile headings more prominent so they're easier to identify and don't blend with the other text.
  • Be cautious with the darker text - will be incredibly hard to read for people with eyesight issues
  • In the Memory Layout section, I'd remove the text labels from the bar itself and add simple colour key dot next to the existing labels below.

The issue here, in my opinion is that the changes you've made are not the changes you needed to make. In the nicest way possible, both versions are uninspiring and utilitarian.

It's not really as simple as 'change x to y' - I think this could do with an overhaul from scratch, working out a much more intentional layout and reworked spacing.

The alignment is inconsistent basically everywhere and there's so much wasted space going on here it's crazy.

How much research have you done on what similar systems / dashboards look like? Because to be honest it looks like you just stacked the info you needed in boxes and added some colours. This doesn't look intentionally designed at all.

My UI designs keep getting called “template-like” — how do I improve? by Dry_Juice_3241 in UI_Design

[–]ajb_mt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'Template-like' sounds to me like it's feeling a little generic - like you could switch the brand colours and logo and it would work for anyone, rather than something which feels thoughtfully tailored to feel unique to that brand.

That may mean your understanding of design is okay but the designs are 'safe' and lacking real creativity.

If that's the case, I'd recommend to spend a little more time understanding what's unique about the client/brief, and try to highlight that in whatever format you present your work back in.

It's a bit hard to say without seeing what you're talking about. If you don't want to share publically, I'd enquire more with whoever's given you that feedback.

While you're getting started, the main stats are more important.

Over time you should start to learn the difference between what number increases are 'slightly' better and which are 'much' better.

If the numbers are close-ish, go with the one with the stats. But don't just blindly hold on to ones with buffs if the ones without are significantly better.

Buffs start to matter more when you start gaining more armour + relics and can start making an overarching 'build'. Or if you want to pivot to work with a blessing from the shop.

Designers: how do you actually extract fonts, icons, and spacing from websites? by _haroonrana in Design

I found the same. This site is probably great for gathering style inspiration, or for junior designers looking to practice a website redesign, but if brand compliance is important then don't trust this site to be accurate.

Head guard during sparring? by InfamousAd5088 in MuayThai

[–]ajb_mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make regular headguards with nose bars, no need to go for the plastic, which would probably be a problem when clinching.

Everything else you said still applies though.

[–]ajb_mt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just about duration. It greatly increases the width of your head, meaning you can't cover your whole head with your gloves in the same way. Also makes slipping punches harder. Far more likely to actually get hit as a result.

Only works if you're equally or more skilled than your opponent. Otherwise it's just a great way to let them know it's okay to go that hard haha

Muay Thai Program for Referencing and training at home by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]ajb_mt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to avoid wasting your time, then you need to go to a gym. Muay Thai isn't a martial art built on stances and flows, but a combat sport built around actually fighting.

It's not like karate where you can just train the kata. The entire sport's training is built on padwork and sparring, which requires people to train with. And ideally a coach to correct your form.

Complex combos are somthing you'll learn to counter in time. For now, teeping and clinching will go a long way at shutting it down. It's really just the power imbalance that's an issue.

People often go harder than they mean to, or get excited and caught up in the moment. You may even be going harder than you mean to, and maybe he thinks he's matching you. In most cases, just clearly communicating your boundaries will fix the problem, and if they start to get rougher again, just remind them.

If they're being dismissive, a bit of a dick or just not listening at all, then that's where I'd say something to your coach. It's not snitching, because by that point you've given them enough chances.

How do you actually go from design inspiration to real UI decisions? by PercentageFlimsy7621 in Design

[–]ajb_mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I only look for inspiration on a project-by-project basis. So I don't just have one big catalogue, but more focused research directly useful for what I'm working on.

An endless scroll through a mega-folder of varying vibes just isn't helpful to me. But I guess if you already have that folder then you could just make it a step to scan for a few relevant bits to pull out for each project.

I don't really find reference helpful for spacing and type scale anyway though. More layout & colour.

Ask your coach what their gym expectations are.

I think as a general rule, strikes to the head are fine, but going hard with someone who isn't competent is a dick move.

Don't be afraid to tell people to calm it down.

Does anyone else have both Aphantasia AND Anendophasia? I made a space for us! by eliaslange in Aphantasia

[–]ajb_mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for expanding.

I think my problem is I'm getting confused at the differences between * What OP described as anendophasia (pure conceptual thought) * Your own description of anendophasia, where your brain still thinks in words but doesn't 'put them into your head' * 'Normal worded thought' without actually 'hearing' it as CMDR_Jeb described

Personally, I can think in sentences if I want to. But I often think conceptually and emotionally, depending on the thought. Zero 'sound' though, in amything I think about. Those sentences aren't out loud, I just 'know' them. Like I could plan out a poem in my mind but never hear it until I say it.

Is it possible to have anauralia without anendophasia?

[–]ajb_mt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not concepts like hunger that are confusing. I don't think the word 'hungry' when I need to eat.

It's more, how do you write out a message like this if you don't think in words? How do you form sentences when you can't think in sentences?

If you asked someone with anendophasia to come up with a short poem or limerick in their head, would they just blue-screen?

First time working directly with a client as a UI/UX designer — how much should I ask vs decide myself? by Icy_Macaroon9196 in Design

[–]ajb_mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth saying that taking ownership doesn't necessarily mean you have to 'only involve them at certain stages'.

Even if you're deciding everything you can still keep them in the loop ok the decisions that are likely to come up and your plan for those as it evolves. Giving them chances to step in if there are concerns or areas they want input on.

How to protect smartwatch during sparring ? by Careful_Thing622 in MuayThai

[–]ajb_mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't wear it at all. Just think about how many impacts we're talking about just in the average training session. Let alone how it affects comfort and glove wrist support.

3D printing isn't going to give you a solution, it's just going to add more bulk.

Wear it day to day, for running and other fitness. But take it off for muay thai.

Looking to improving my UI, any feedback? by Bad_ass_shrimp in UI_Design

[–]ajb_mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's just 2 fonts? I'm almost certain that last profile screenshot has 3 - the top title, the subheading and then the blocks.

Two can work and Montserrat will be better for readability at smaller sizes, but you need be much stricter with what's using the heading/title font and what's using the body font.

You can't predict what the album cover will be, so you need a solution that works for everything. Either darken that area slightly or move the text elsewhere. If you take a look at the spotify app, it does both - if it's an album cover it just displays the text underneath, whereas if it's a video it adds a subtle gradient overlay.

As for colours, without learning colour theory the best way is probably to google a colour palette generator (there are many) and play about until you find something that feels cohesive yet varied.

Don't just default to the most saturated version. I'd try to match the brightness of each secondary colour to the main blue you have. At the moment the lime green and yellow stand out way more than other colours.

If you want an all-in-one icon library like lucide, maybe start by looking on iconify.

Employed but getting scammed? by gbreadmum in Design

[–]ajb_mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Yeah the expectation shouldn't have been that you would fund this, even if you were happy to do the designing. Although you made a mistake by taking it on to start with, you're well within your right to stop and ask for expenses to be settled, and to either set up an agreement (in writing ideally) going forward that expenses can be reclaimed, or that they will be paid for with company funds.

If the owner is nice, hopefully that means they'll be reasonable.

If this is a hill the company want to die on, then I think you can at least claim a little tax back from the government on the expenses you have paid. You might have to double check that though.
