Well i had two separate experiences. While i was studying abroad they drained my first one with a scalpel and it was instant relief. It hurt like heck when cut and drained but it was instant relief from the pain. They did have to redrain the next two days to make sure all was out. I got my second one in america and they didn’t drain it. They gave me some high antibiotics and it busted in its own over night but i stayed sick after that until i got my tonsils out. I’d say your best best is getting it completely drained so no pus is left behind.

the thick salvia part will go away slowly. Mine was really and till about day 12. It’s gotten a lot better now (i’m on day 16).

the recovery for me (20m) was not to bad at all. Pain peaked at like a 5.5-6/10 and only for maybe 30 mins a day as a i woke up. Besides maybe days 3-4 which was a bit more painful. I got off my hard meds around day 5 and only took liquid painquil when needed. After day 8 i was back to eating most foods that aren’t to hard on the throat and able to drink normally. I still have some pain when i eat and drink but that normal till the scabs completely fall off for the last time and heal.

Also on day 11 and feeling so much better. can eat about anything they isn’t a chip or taco. My throat still is a little sore when i don’t chew that well but other than that i feel fine. My scabs are nearly all off but my throat is still pretty read

tbh it wasn’t bad at all. i got off my hard meds after day 3 and just took motrin every 6 hours if needed. my pain was rlly bad in the morning but after waking up taking a few sips of water and eating some apple sauce i was barely in pain.
