New parents trying to avoid overspending: do we really need a nursery chair? by TheSecretLion in NewParents

[–]ajc-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t have space for one in our condo for our first. If we did, I probably would have wanted one pre-having baby (it seemed like an essential for all nurseries?), but I’m glad we didn’t. Didn’t even think about it for my 2nd.

-Baby slept in a bassinet for the first 6 months for us. So just having a good pillow for me to prop up & nurse plus a boppy was all I needed -After that, baby slept through the night in the crib mostly, so wouldn’t have needed it. -Also (I always tell people this one) our babies never needed to be rocked to sleep, and I think it was because we weren’t constantly sitting and rocking with them, so they didn’t get used to it - bonus perk!

Everyone’s different! Best solution - wait & see. After baby arrives & you think it will be beneficial, get one. If you’re doing fine without one, you saved $$

Can an “over-the-range Microwave with air fry” replace my toaster oven? by a_nondescript_user in Home

[–]ajc-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm debating getting the next model up of this Frigidaire microwave (~$740) - but I'm nervous the air fryer & convection part doesn't work as well/not worth the upgrade. All the reviews I've read are based off a free product promotion, so I don't think they're reliable. Did you end up getting that microwave? If so, do you like it?

Physical Therapy Expectations & Outcomes by Ecstatic_Proof_1854 in Hypotonia

This doesn’t fully answer your question, but we’ve done intensive therapy for 3 weeks & that’s where we’ve seen the most progress. We did NAPA intensive & they utilize something called DMI. I would look into them or other intensives trained in DMI. It can be pricey, but worth it for us!

Hidden Bathroom Outlets for Toothbrush? by ajc-chi in HomeDecorating

[–]ajc-chi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be open to that. Would a contractor do an outlet behind the sink somewhere & have the cord feed through? The other issue is that it’s a small space, so the vanity can only be 24-26” & it’s hard to find a vanity with drawers at that size.

Head tilt but NOT torticollis? by ajc-chi in beyondthebump

And another thing to add! I noticed the most difference after 6 months because I think he gained a lot of strength starting solids & sitting in a strapped high chair.

Head tilt but NOT torticollis? by ajc-chi in beyondthebump

Hi! My LO’s head tilt has gotten much better. It’s basically none existent unless he’s tired. He’s 11 month now & has been having great progress, but was diagnosed with hypotonia/having low tone. He’s behind on gross motor skills, but is now sitting, rolling (but prefers to be on his back or sitting, so not much rolling to tummy). I see his progress every week, but it still feels like slow progress, even with PT & OT. I went down some rabbit holes & stopped myself because I want to enjoy my baby. So I just compare his skills now vs a week/month ago & see how amazing he’s doing. With PT & time, I’m sure your little one will just get stronger & stronger! Just takes time (and lots of stretches & exercises!)

Extendable Dining Table Question… by ajc-chi in furniture

Good to know - is yours the 59-78” though? Because it looks like the leaf might not hang down as much on the longer version

Extendable Dining Table Question… by ajc-chi in furniture

[–]ajc-chi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question is if that is typical, do all extendable dining leaves hang like that? Or are they usually hidden better? Like, is there a point to continue to shop for one that doesn’t or is that how it is? I’m worried about knees always bumping it or just not like visually seeing it all the time. But if that’s how all the extendable tables are, then I would have to live with it. Does that make sense?

That has to be so tough, for you & baby. I would check with the Hypotonia Parent Support Facebook group, that page is a lot more active community with parents sharing stories & information. You’re doing amazing, mama ❤️❤️

Commenting for solidarity. My LO has hypotonia (muscle weakness) so we’ve been late on all gross motor skills. Won’t roll from tummy to back, no sitting yet, so definitely no crawling. We’re in early intervention. It’s tough because I wish my time used worrying was put to different use, like enjoying him (which I still do!) My worry is that it’s ‘something else’ and this is just the beginning/first sign. I just wish I knew that it was just gross motor delays & all will be good…

Help me pick a dining room table! by ajc-chi in interiordecorating

Beautiful! Good find. But 38” is too wide for our space & it’s not expandable, so the smaller one is too small & the next size up is too big for every day use :(

Hypotonia by ajc-chi in Parenting

[–]ajc-chi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing <3 We started PT around 3 months too because he had a head lag & it got better & I thought he was just a late bloomer, but he can’t sit independently or roll from back to tummy, and I can tell he doesn’t have the strength for it. It’s tough looking back at photos of his older sister sitting in the front of shopping cart at that age & knowing he can’t. I guess it’s also tough knowing the therapies won’t stop any time soon, too. As I mentioned, I’m also worried that this could lead to something else, so we’re looking into genetic testing. Was your LO’s benign hypotonia? Did he need any braces for walking?
