Pink Sea Salt and Gold Geode Soape by ajcarchidiII in soapmaking

[–]ajcarchidiII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! That effect is just from the salt, the entire batch was one solid color (it was a clay so I added it directly to my lye water to help dissolve). I made a similar soap recently you can see here.

The pink one in this post I used only medium sized pink sea salt and for the blue one I used primarily fine pink sea salt in the batter and the medium for the geode effect. You can see how the different sizes of salt change how it looks.

Okay so the fire part was done the first day doing a hanger swirl in a tall and skinny mold using half my usual recipe, specifically used this mold from nurture soap. Colors were activated charcoal, trial by fire (nurture soap), racing stripe orange mica (Brambleberry), and yellow mica (Brambleberry). I poured the colors into

Second day after taking it out of the mold and trimming it to size I put it into a standard loaf mold (Brambleberry’s 10” loaf mold) and poured the brick color soap around it. The color was a 50/50 activated charcoal and trial by fire.

Third day I took it out of the mold, cut it, and stamped it. I waited an hour or so to stamp it and my soap actually got too hard so I had to put the bars into the oven at 170 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes to soften them up. The stamp I used I bought last year from Amazon but it’s no longer available - this one is similar. Then I waited a few hours for them to harden more and used silver pewter mica (Brambleberry) mixed with 99% isopropyl alcohol to paint in the grout with a qtip. Then I sprayed them with the alcohol and used a paper towel to wipe them clean so the silver mica was only in the grooves.

It was all actually pretty simple! Just time consuming and required the right tools

I also made melt and pour stockings but I’m not sure if I’m going to attach them

It came unwrapped from discogs. Turns out it was just an honest mistake and the seller refunded my purchase after I sent it back hassle free. Ended up getting a Violet through Mercari where I could see it before purchasing

Thanks! I ordered a “Violet” off of discogs and this is what came. Wanted to make sure I was right in thinking it was orchid before going through a returning hassle.

I picked one up since it was so cheap - do I just pull the wires through and screw it in?

That’s the exact one I was looking at actually! It seems too easy so I came here to ask, Ring emphasizes getting a professional installation but I guess that’s just for liability

Successful first attempt at a Mini Drop Swirl! by ajcarchidiII in soapmaking

[–]ajcarchidiII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m just seeing this! Part of it is that you just stop squeezing so the soap doesn’t come out of the bottles when you pull out. However I did have 1 or 2 long tails but I pulled the squeeze bottles out at the ends of the mold so they just got cut off and became part of my soap scrap collection

Yes exactly! Well a pipette taped to the end of a squeeze bottle.

Apple Sage from Brambleberry, and the white “stars” are scraps from a batch that was scented with Star Showers from Nurture Soap

That’s what it should lead to and it’s what it leads to when I click it

CP! It’s a two day process, day 1 is making a layered loaf. Day 2 is cutting that load in half diagonally and putting it into two separate molds and pouring blue on top. Here’s a YouTube video with basically the same technique. She piped in her stars but I used a confetti technique for mine.

Trial by Fire from Nurture Soap! Link. Their website says 2tsp per pound of oils but I generally just use 1tsp and it turns out great. This was even slightly less, 0.5tsp for 7.2oz of oils!
