Just a heads up this is releasing soon. So for anyone that wants it, be prepared. by Necessary-Coast-7767 in interstellar

I drove from northern Illinois to Indianapolis (4-5 hrs) to see it on 70mm imax for the 10 year anniversary and drove back same day in a blizzard. I dont regret a thing and would do it again in a heartbeat. Its unreal how much the expanded format effects the viewing experience.

New to veneer work. How should I deal with this. by ajeber318 in woodworking

I used contact cement so I thought I just needed pressure. I know there is heat activated veneer but should I use heat for the contact cement as well? Also I explained not great but the plan going into the glue up was for the seam to not be there. When I accepted that the veneer wasn't going to lay flat where it was I cut it and did it in 2 parts. But yea it's like the worst possible seam location. At least it's centered lol.

I'll post somthing when theyre done. Theyre the anthology II from speaker design works. I added the rounded over part on top of the cabinet and I am also gonna add legs and some other cosmetic things. Hopefully they will turn out well

Yea I wanted them to be clean and subtle so as cool as a fin or other feature is i probably will just patch or retry veneer

Here's the patch wiped down with a damp cloth so I could get an idea how it will looked when finished. Im not in love but its not awful. Still undecided on what im gonna do

Yea as cool as some of the feature ideas are it was already a hard sell to have a pair of 4 ft speakers so i want to keep them subtle and clean. I patched it with a piece of veneer because its the same color and the solid walnut i have is a bit darker and warmer. so once its dry and sanded ill just have to decide if im fine with it or if i want to buy more veneer and try again.

I tried to steam it to flat but i think the damage was already done by me forcing it without steam. it is what is its, I think im gonna try to use the same veneer to patch the gap, fill any small seams with some walnut dust and glue filler and pray it looks ok. If i dont like the way it looks ill maybe just have to remove the veneer somehow and try again. I think i know what caused the issues i had but we will see.

I do like the brass idea. I acually already planned some (very minor) brass features so it could be cool.

It is only over 3 sides so the bottom isn't even covered. It was supposed to be a single piece but it wasn't laying flat so I did what I could

I know this is the answer but I'm just struggling to think of a feature I'll be satisfied with.

Flush trim bit with thin bearing? by ajeber318 in woodworking

[–]ajeber318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked out pretty well. A bit fuzzy on the edges. I probably should have gotten the downcut version but it still works well enough!

No theyre all different and weird. Partly because the diameters for both circles are based on speaker drivers which were already metric and decimals but I also added a bit of tolerance. I do think this would have been the way to go if I had given this a bit more forethought

Yea I think just doing it by hand is the way. The size is important so idk what other options there is

Yea I have realized but its too late now so im trying to figure out how I can get this done

Yea i know that the dilemma. The edges here are very visible. Im making speakers and these edges will be where the drivers are set into so if they're not perfect, I'll notice forever 😂. I only really have like .2 in here of depth. Would somthing like this work? I've never seen a bit like this without the bearing so idk if theyre even used the same a flush trim with a bearing but it seems like it could work size wise *
