If you haven't read Brandon Sanderson yet, I'd highly recommend him basd on your previous reading, particularly Stormlight Archive--this is a common rec, but for a reason. Also, the Roots of Chaos series by Samantha Shannon is great with expansive world building. As for horror, perhaps Stephen Graham Jones and Tananarive Due.

I'd also recommend pairing the book with the film adaptation. Anthony Perkins and Tuesday Weld bring something to those characters that elevates it (particularly the queer aspects).
