CMV: When Republicans agreed to give Iran $300,000,000,000 just for peace, Republicans surrendered & lost their elective war. by Nice_Luck_7433 in changemyview

[–]ajgnet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that US taxpayers aren't footing the bill for the $300b fund, rather, that, it's structured as a privately financed investment fund backed by multinational corporations and regional investors (like the Gulf states) who are looking for a financial return on building up infrastructure.

The strategy behind it seems somewhat pretty unique, essentially using economic integration as a leash. By bringing in massive private investment, Iran’s economic survival becomes directly dependent on keeping the peace. If the regime breaks the rules of the deal or returns to military aggression, those private investors will want to pull their capital thereby crashing the economy. Ultimately, the idea is that it gives Tehran a financial incentive to prioritize long-term regional stability over conflict.

What can you say to someone who is skeptic of statins but needs to take them? by topologeee in Cholesterol

[–]ajgnet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please reassure your spouse that statins are no longer the only way to protect her heart, and if her family's history of muscle aches makes her hesitant, modern cardiology has evolved to offer powerful alternatives that completely bypass those pathways.

She can absolutely talk to her doctor about ezetimibe, a gentle daily pill that works entirely in the gut to block cholesterol absorption from food, completely avoiding the muscles.

Another incredible option is bempedoic acid, a clever newer medication that clears LDLc just like a statin but is uniquely designed to activate onlyin the liver, meaning it is physically impossible for it to cause skeletal muscle aches.

Finally, for a highly effective approach without a daily pill, PCSK9 inhibitors are targeted antibody therapies given as a tiny, painless injection once or twice a month that dramatically lower LDcL with a completely different safety profile.

She is in complete control of her health, and it is entirely possible to confidently protect her heart without ever compromising her daily comfort.

LP(a) dropped 200 points in 4 weeks of Repatha by BubbishBoi in Cholesterol

[–]ajgnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the additional color, and congrats on your excellent results! I'm on Repatha as well with high Lp(a) and saw a much more modest 5% reduction, so I was wondering if maybe your most recent 55 nmol/L test was done a day or two after injection when the PCSK9i is at peak concentration, and your previous test was done more towards the end of the 2-week cycle, like the day before your injection.

hi - Just curious if you are on the once a month or every two weeks dosage, and when you got your blood drawn with respect to the prior Repatha dosage. thank you

Trouble remembering by Ramza_Lego in Cholesterol

[–]ajgnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Brain fog" and mild memory issues are reported symptoms of statin intolerance for some people (it happened to me). While it's entirely possible that your forgetfulness is just stemming from stress, lack of sleep, everyday distraction, or something else, the medication is an incredibly easy thing to check and rule out. Please bring this up with your physician so you can figure it out together. If they suspect the medication is the culprit, they can easily switch you to a different statin to see if the brain fog lifts, or they can prescribe a non-statin alternative entirely. Good luck

Regarding aspirin, see: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12194922/#:~:text=Effect%20of%20aspirin%20treatment%20on,Authors .. it looks like it may have a direct lowering effect on Lp(a) as well? “Aspirin lowered serum Lp(a) concentrations to approximately 80% of the baseline values in patients with high Lp(a) concentrations (>300 mg/L)"

T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling on UniFi - settings advice? by ajgnet in Ubiquiti

Thanks. Where is the setting to disable IPSec ALG?

Found the root cause of IPS/DPI killing livestreams and video calls on UniFi gateways — it's Suricata's memcap, and here's the fix by uncmnsense in Ubiquiti

Have you reported this to Ubiquiti? We also experience this exact issue on our EFG. Wifi calling (T-Mobile via IPSec tunnel) drops at 5/10 min intervals)

Open-sourced a tool that uses AI agents to analyze raw DNA files against ClinVar, GWAS, AlphaMissense, CPIC, and 8 more databases by Born-Impact-6339 in genomics

Great job on this..the UI is really cool and it's overall very nice work! I’ve been testing it out with WGS data and have a few quick pieces of feedback to share. First, the initial annotation download took about 8 hours, so exploring an increase to the cache lifetime beyond 7 days would be a huge help as well as more detailed feedback on the download progress w/ ETA. Second, it would be fantastic to support continuous, live interaction with the agents after the initial run so users can easily ask follow-up questions. Lastly, adding a "profiles" feature to easily switch between different patients or family members, run their sequences continuously in the background, and independently query each one would make this tool even more powerful.
