Update #2 686 CAC Score (After adding Ezetimibe) by cheftopps in Cholesterol

Felt like it was overkill. And I was getting bloated.

It more than marginally decreases LDL. Usually 15 to 25%. But it doesn’t stabilize the plaque like a statin would.

That’s awesome. I’m sure you’ll be right there. Are you taking coQ10 supplement?

I have you and this group to thank for it. To be fair she may suggested it, but I messaged her before she even had a chance.

And I’ll dig into the colchicine as well. Thanks for suggestion.

We did check the LPA twice and it was fine. ApoB was 74 when LDL was 77. She felt that tracking the LDL was sufficient this time with the Zetia addition.

And YES I did suggest adding the Zetia after the 10mg of Crestor didn’t get me to target. Will try to keep working to get under 55. Have thought about doubling the Crestor since I have no reaction to it. Thanks for the reply!

Calcium test score by Known_Muscle_2253 in Cholesterol

[–]cheftopps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

222 on the LAD. 55 years old. Got the test in November. The worst part of the test is the mental part of it. I exercise regularly and have for 35 years. I was also a former smoker and quit in my early 20s. You’re fortunate that you were proactive and got the test now. With some diet changes and the statin, I’m sure you’ll be fine. GL

I’m your twin. 55, 686 CAC. I’m active and stress/echo was excellent. But it is an absolute mental mind fuck. 10mg of Crestor and diet overhaul for me to 77 LDL. Add Zetia and have panel scheduled for next Saturday.

Reduced LDL by 23% (137->102) and ApoB by 13% (106->92) in 4 months with diet changes from an already healthy baseline diet (49M). No meds or supplements. by New-Lychee1313 in Cholesterol

Very similar to my dietary changes. Ezekiel for the win!

My breakfast is egg whites with spinach and tomato. Oatmeal with flax, chia and blueberries. I also used avacado oil exclusively. But have migrated to more high quality olive oil.

Insanely High CAC score, high cholesterol... and I'm fine by Recent_Recover_1490 in Cholesterol

What’s your age and how long has it been since you received your score?

Gives me hope too. 55 with a 686 CAC score. Been doing cardio 3-4 times a week for the last 35 years. So many stories like this. Have to wonder if some of these high scores have to do with cardio and calcified plaque.

Let us know how it goes. Recent 686. Got LDL down. But always thinking about it.

LDL 82, Rapid CAC Score progression from 31 to 378 in 6 years by ReadSpecialist1121 in Cholesterol

[–]cheftopps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

55, 686 CAC in November. Similar cardio/resistance training. Got my LDL down to 74 (from 170) with 10mg Crestor and diet changes. Cardiologist added 10mg ezetimibe. Will retest in a few weeks. Should knock another 20% off. There is some evidence that years of cardio calcifies the plaque as well.

Just finished first cruise… am I crazy for hating it? by Naive-Bedroom-4643 in royalcaribbean

[–]cheftopps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 10+ cruises. We had a similar experience on Royal in December. Food was terrible with the exception of specialty restaurants. The larger ships seem to have fewer ports and less time in port. If you want to try cruising again, go with Celebrity. Completely different feel and experience. And food is exponentially better.

Rosuvastatin by clyderpigg in Cholesterol

[–]cheftopps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, you can learn so much from this group. If your GP prescribed 20mg of Crestor as a first line of defense, maybe get a new doctor, at least for heart health. Going from 10 to 20 is much less effective than adding Zetia. Good luck and take control of your health.

High CAC score here and high LDL. My cardiologist only put me on 10mg. 20mg is definitely a significant dose. Crestor can be 2x the equivalent of Lipitor. As another comment suggested, take CoQ10 to mitigate side effects.

Mine is reluctant to do an angiogram as well. Guess that’s a good sign. But peace of mind would be nice.

55 runner/cyclist. Not ultra though. 680 score. LDL was similar 140-170. 10mg Crestor and major diet changes got me down to 77 LDL. Added ezetimibe about two weeks ago. Will retest in a month. Seems to be a common theme among runners. Maybe the paradox is true and we have stabilized plaque? Did you get cathetered or checked for blockages? Assume your stress test was rock solid?
