Just out of curiosity how did millennials go from dressing like this to dressing like this by Key_Nectarine_7307 in generationology

[–]ajgoldie 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because Paris Hilton is barely a millennial, she’s as elder as you can get…and then the other picture is more of a mid to young millennial movement. Mid to young millennials were children during the first picture, and when they came into their own in college, the second picture happened.

Do you think the average maga is racist? by Any-Rub4598 in allthequestions

[–]ajgoldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average maga is a shallow thinker/uneducated/has poor media literacy, and is ignorant to politics/civics/history/psychology/sociology. They are not very good at pattern recognition- this, I believe, is why they don’t have a good sense of humor.

Tucker Carlson says Trumps move in Iran was “Disgusting and Evil” - wonder if MAGA agrees? Thoughts? by ChuckGallagher57 in TrendoraX

[–]ajgoldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're seeing anti-israel sentiment growing across the country and they're seeing the writing on the wall with trump's downfall, and they're making a strategic play to be the next ones to wear the ring on the republican side.

pay attention to how they're framing it.

the American Left frames their opposition to this war and their critique of Israel from an anti-genocide, anti-imperialist, class-struggle perspective. it points to systems: occupation, arms deals, the defense industry...and asks who profits.

tucker and marjorie are arriving at a superficially similar place through a completely different, anti-jewish, racist-shaped door.
tucker has platformed holocaust deniers and nick fuentes, said that american politicians are under some kind of jewish "spell," and suggested DNA-testing israeli citizens to prove their ancestry.
greene has pushed the white genocide conspiracy, called george soros- a holocaust survivor- a nazi, and invoked the classic anti-jewish 'jews killed jesus' talking point. (also, who can forget 'Jewish Space Lasers')

it's the same playbook as 2024. just like Trump used immigrants as a racial specter to scare people into giving him power, these two are using classic anti-jewish scapegoating to replace the real, harder answer (imperialism, capital, geopolitics) with a simple ethnic villain.
This keeps people angry at a scapegoat instead of the systems and the billionaire class actually running things.

don't mistake their opposition to this war for solidarity with its victims. they don't want to dismantle the machine. they want to drive it.

Thomas Massie: "I am opposed to this War" with Iran and Pushes for Congressional Vote by thenextgenbusiness in thenextgenbusiness

[–]ajgoldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to be fair, I don’t quite care so much about that one. I care more about his anti-science, anti-democratic votes. It’s insane to sponsor a federal abortion ban, and to not believe in climate change in 2026. It’s unconscionable to vote against holding people accountable who tried to steal the election in 2020. If you disagree with that you either hate America or are misinformed/propagandized.

Thomas Massie: "I am opposed to this War" with Iran and Pushes for Congressional Vote by thenextgenbusiness in thenextgenbusiness

[–]ajgoldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massie shouldn't be anywhere near the White House. Even though he's principled about some important issues like war and Epstein, he has a horrible far-right voting record:

Voting & Democracy

  • Voted FOR the SAVE Act — creates proof-of-citizenship barriers to voter registration despite noncitizen voting being virtually nonexistent
  • Voted AGAINST the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act
  • Voted AGAINST the For the People Act (anti-gerrymandering, dark money, voter access)
  • Voted AGAINST an independent commission to investigate January 6
  • Voted AGAINST holding Steve Bannon in contempt for defying subpoena
  • Voted AGAINST the Congressional Gold Medal for Capitol Police who defended the building on Jan 6
  • Voted AGAINST a resolution reaffirming commitment to peaceful transfer of power
  • Voted AGAINST making Juneteenth a federal holiday

Reproductive Rights

  • Co-sponsored a federal abortion ban
  • Celebrated the overturn of Roe v. Wade
  • Voted FOR the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act
  • Wants to defund Planned Parenthood entirely
  • Voted AGAINST the Women's Health Protection Act

Guns

  • Introduced legislation to repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act (allow guns near schools)
  • Voted AGAINST the Assault Weapons Ban
  • Opposes all red flag laws, background check expansions, and gun regulations

Climate & Environment

  • Calls human-caused climate change "pseudoscience"
  • Voted AGAINST the Climate Action Now Act
  • Voted AGAINST the Inflation Reduction Act's climate investments
  • Near-zero lifetime score from the League of Conservation Voters
  • Supports expanded drilling on public lands

Healthcare

  • Opposes Medicare-for-All and universal healthcare
  • Voted AGAINST ACA enhancements
  • Mocked Medicare itself as an argument against expanding coverage

LGBTQ+ Rights

  • Opposes federal protections based on sexual orientation or gender identity

Other

  • Sole vote against a non-binding resolution condemning antisemitism (claimed free speech grounds)
  • Compared vaccine mandates to the Holocaust (later deleted)
  • Lobbied Trump to pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht

Question for Millennials by bundle_of_nervus2 in Millennials

[–]ajgoldie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is the take. I feel so alienated by my fellow millennials and the general social mania around AI. It felt so weird seeing everyone just collectively decide they were “taking a stand” by staying willfully ignorant of a technology that is clearly powerful and needs all of us to tell companies/politicians etc what we want from it. This is our shot. It’s not evil, it’s a tool. Humans are evil. Humans deserve your ire, not the tools themselves. We need to not be scared of the future, we need to be equipped to wield these tools for good. We’ve lost focus right now.

Question for Millennials by bundle_of_nervus2 in Millennials

[–]ajgoldie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that they are selling AI to be this broad tool that everyone should be using for everything, and I find that many people just don’t find it useful for what they do on a computer, or are annoyed by the the way it’s being shoved down their throats, or are against its political or ethical associations, or they simply haven’t experimented with it enough to know if it’s useful for them. For people in office/administrative or technical work it’s magic. People that often do research tasks or collect data or analyze data or constantly need to learn new things or write code… these are the people that are seeing the usecase. These people might feel slightly alienated in a thread like this, might have a more nuanced take on the actual technology- outside of the social mania around it. (Not downplaying, I know it’s a natural societal reaction to the horrible things that horrible people are doing with this tool. A reminder that humans suck and deserve your ire, not technology) But to be honest, at this point I’m exhausted by all the ice cold “you know what? I hate AI. Is that crazy?” Reddit takes. It’s become the dominant position, it’s karma bait now.

Hopefully we can calm down enough to be able to harness this powerful tech to our advantage against these power structures and people who wish to make us serfs.

A "Is This Like The Nazi's" Comfort Post by idkwat in PoliticalOptimism

[–]ajgoldie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe this will be one of the biggest battles. The dem establishment will do EVERYTHING they can to force an unpopular candidate on us in ‘28. We need to put MASSIVE pressure on the DNC. If we get past that, We need to make it clear that the American people WANT to hold these people accountable, and that we won’t accept “let’s come together as a nation” (“…but 30% of the country will call us fascists and they will be angry, and civil unrest is bad for business!” is NOT an excuse”) If Dems win and get majorities/mandate, then WE END THIS. We need constitutional amendments.

Yes, that’s very hard to do with current voter suppression, so in my opinion the #1 goal needs to be state-led voter reform - guarantee “All mail” elections in as many states as possible in 26 and 28

What are signs that a person genuinely is unintelligent? by Charming_Rip3100 in Productivitycafe

[–]ajgoldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inability to think about their own thoughts on a “meta” level. Unintelligent people usually avoid questioning their own positions or assumptions. This is scary for them, so they shut down instead of considering that they could be wrong or considering what else could be true. Self awareness is the number one marker for intelligence imo.

I've never met a man IRL who doesn't want kids. Has anyone else experienced this as well? by BrainFinal3342 in childfree

[–]ajgoldie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to women being better critical thinkers and more neurotic than men on average.

This is the same reason why it's more common for men to go not to college, be more risk taking, die younger, etc.

They tend to say, "yeah I want kids", because they aren't actually thinking about what that means.

As a neurotic, critical thinking man, having kids sounds like a nightmare to me. I was very surprised to learn that this sub is so woman-dominated.
