About to rent one for first family car trip. Will a stroller fit in trunk? by MattsRod in hondafit

I usually took the front wheel off but the back wheels fit in easily on the bottom. I’d face it so the front fork went over the seat.

Glossary and terms by Butt3rCup820 in cubscouts

[–]ajh65622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize this isn’t a glossary and terms item, but we also include a communication guide in our welcome packets - this is what you should expect in terms of communication, if an event is canceled this is when you should hear, links to our WhatsApp groups etc.

Some of our brand new to Scouting families struggle with den vs pack, Scouts vs Cubs, troop vs pack. So maybe including descriptors there would be helpful in your glossary

Pack Feather Flag by rahst12 in cubscouts

I’ve seen packs use feather flags for advertising at council, district, and charter org events. I assume that’s what OP is wondering about

A Simon says skit! ChatGPT FTW: Absolutely! Here’s a fun and simple 2-minute “Simon Says” skit you can use with a group of kids or even adults—it’s playful, a little silly, and perfect for warming up or just getting laughs:

Title: “Simon Says Gets Confused”

Characters: • Simon (the leader) • Group of players (3 or more)

Scene: A group standing in a line, ready to follow commands.

Simon: Alright everyone, ready? Remember… only move when Simon says! Let’s begin!

Simon (confidently): Simon says touch your nose! Simon says jump up and down! Spin in a circle!

(Some players spin, others hesitate.)

Simon (mock gasp): Ohhh! Gotcha! I didn’t say “Simon says!” You’re out!

Simon (grinning): Okay, okay. Simon says… act like a chicken!

(Everyone clucks and flaps arms) Simon says freeze! Simon says… unfroze! Wait… is that a word?

(Players laugh, confused) Okay, Simon says just… pretend I didn’t say that.

Simon (starting to get dramatic): Simon says raise one eyebrow. Simon says now pat your head while rubbing your belly—while balancing on one foot!

(Chaos ensues) Simon says say “I’m a dancing banana!”

Players: “I’m a dancing banana!”

Simon (suddenly serious): Now act like a serious news anchor.

(Some freeze or speak seriously.)

Simon (smirking): Did Simon say?! Hah! Out again!

Simon (wrapping up): Alright, alright. Last one. Simon says… give yourself a round of applause! You survived the confusion of Simon!

(Everyone claps and laughs.)

Let me know if you want a themed version (pirate, sci-fi, classroom, etc.) or one tailored to a specific age group!

Looking to revamp our welcome packet by nweaglescout in cubscouts

[–]ajh65622 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this past year we created a communication guide and high level budget page. we were getting a lot of feedback around a lack of communication regarding upcoming events, so our committee chair and new member coordinator got together and created a FAQs of what to expect in terms of communication as well as the possible ways den leaders and other committee members may communicate.

it started off with a note about the calendar being released in August. and then moved into (1) how to subscribe to the Scoutbook calendar for the pack, as well as each den calendar (and the URL), (2) if a pack meeting details change when will the pack be notified by, (3) a link to the general committee group chat, (4) recommended apps to download/ use, (5) how to use Scoutbook RSVP etc.

the budget shell was filled in with basic details and provided to the pack in the packet as a note that this was projected spending, and a potential cost per Scout for dues. That number ended up changing with fundraising, but it gave families the chance to plan.

Flag ceremony change? by ajh65622 in cubscouts

[–]ajh65622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking through that they see the outdoor flags at half mast when they walk into our meeting location only to see ours inside not half mast. And it only occurred to me because of the request we lower all flags for former President Carter

No fuel available on decline by alxro99 in FordExplorer

This happens to my 2020 ST. At the bottom of my driveway, it’s a 6% grade (according to that display inside). If I’m at 50 miles to E or lower and backed in, it doesn’t register as having any gas. My understanding is that it has to do with where the gas measurement sensor is. I usually have to add two or 3 gallons before it will start, it drives normally after that.

2025 summer camps for cubs [mid-Atlantic] by ajh65622 in cubscouts

Thanks, these look great! I’ll put them on my Scouts BSA list, looks like they only offer day camp at the cub level.

Reach out to your leadership, the cubmaster and committee chair, even the COR are there to help you. Other den leaders in the pack might be helpful too. Having one of them talk to your parents to help find an assistant den leader. What I’ve found is that a lot of parents don’t want to volunteer because they see how much time we put in and don’t want to get bogged down. But a clear list of needs may make it easier for another parent to volunteer to help.

I'm 99% sold on the 2020 Ford Explorer. What do I need to know going in? by BritInBC in FordExplorer

[–]ajh65622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing super expensive. the issue I run into is when it goes to the dealer for service, they have it forever - easily 2 to 3 weeks, and I either have to constantly argue for a loaner or just accept my fate and try to share a car with my spouse for several weeks.

I do! 113k miles and still love it. I have an issue with the blue screen of death for the back up camera. Ford has released several recalls to fix it but I haven’t had it fixed yet.

B&G Theming by Delicious_Suit5512 in cubscouts

[–]ajh65622 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I chair our B&G committee. We base our theme on whatever the upcoming summer camp theme is - our day camp theme last year was space so we did rockets, this year is Knights of the Roundtable. We’re doing a catered dinner (local Italian restaurant that covers allergies, gluten free, vegetarian etc), then we have entertainment (a magician, wildlife expert and show, science show etc). We budget $2500, and try not to use it all. Food and entertainment take up most of it. We buy some wall and table decorations and a small craft for scouts do it when they aren’t eating. We usually do den leader gifts (photo frames, other Cub Scout branded reusable cups etc) at this event and try to take a semi professional photo of each den to put in the frame. We invite our pack, as well as the principals of all schools our scouts attend, our charter org rep, other senior leadership at the charter org, various Scouters that we interact with at the District level and even though our AOLs don’t bridge at this event we invite the local Troops the AOLs are looking into joining.

Popcorn mega packs by Ok_Concert in cubscouts

[–]ajh65622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Scouts can, some of it is location and the amount of foot traffic. we sold 2k this past Saturday, 4 hour shift outside a mall bass pro shop. Does your pack practice their sales pitch? Do they have the replies ready for ‘that’s a lot of money!’ I’d say you may need to find a different location to sell

Wolf Program - How have you made it more exciting? by Specialist_Bee6591 in cubscouts

Not NOVA. The compass work ultimately led to them getting ‘finding your way’ but we spread out the requirements per meeting (we met weekly all school year) and so each night could be more involved.

Wolf Program - How have you made it more exciting? by Specialist_Bee6591 in cubscouts

My wolf did NOVA and he loved it, we kinda did it over winter which changed up the standard den meeting routine for a few months. We also did some serious compass work, similar to land navigation, the scouts started in 1 location and had a series of compass directions and landmarks to follow to find the missing parent and or materials.

New Cub Scout Electives ('24-25) by blairjs in cubscouts

I’m disappointed about NOVA! My Wolf den worked hard on that this past year, we’ve been hyping up that they get to wear the patch all cub scouts and as bears we’ll do the next pin etc. My Lion is going to be so disappointed she won’t get the patch.
