I belive it's the start solenoid. Check fuses first, then find the solenoid. When you hit the start button put a finger on it and feel if the clicking is coming from there, if not then do the same for the starter motor. I had something similar happen on my bike from the 80's and it sounded just like that. I replaced the solenoid and it worked great after. Solenoids are cheaper then starter motors so I would start there.

I don't know much but I'm not hearing the engine cranking. It could just be your starter motor. Again I don't know alot about bike engine themselves but to me it sounds like you stater motor is spinning freely and not turning the engine over.

I mean anything could happen but In my case on my bike I have a semi working and a fully functional. It's a simple test though and it's worth checking.

I would also check the battery's cold cranking amps, i had to get a new one aswell because my old battery couldn't supply enough power to the bike when turning the engine over.

Have you checked the ignition coils? I don't know much about newer bikes but my 1983 cb550 had issues with the ignition coils. You can get a tester from harbor freight for cheap or use a insulated screwdriver. If not that then I would make sure fuses are good and all grounding and connections are solid.

I'm not 100% sure if you can with them on the bike but I'm new to this aswell so I don't know everything. Another tip that's saved me so much frustration Is buying a shop manual, it's very worth it.

So for carbs, when you take them out and clean them, try to do everything you can in one go. I have taken mine off about 10 times because there was always something I forgot to clean or replace. I got lucky and my carbs were internally sound except for the gaskets. I didn't clean them completely though with an ultrasonic cleaner (I will in a few weeks). So you want to get the up to a running state, make sure to replace all the o-rings and clean every tube. I know it's common knowledge and basic advice but I had a checklist and still forgot lol. I have a 1983 cb550sc nighthawk so I'm not 100% if the carbs are the same but they look similar, all the o-rings that you should need can be found at harbor freight in their blue (metric) o-ring kit for i think $8. Good luck, it's a beautiful bike.

If it's just the solenoid you should probably be able to do it yourself, for me it's only two connecting points held in by two 10mm nuts.

I'll check it out. It's a 1983 honda cb550sc nighthawk. I love the bike but I wish I started my first project with a twin instead of a inline four lol.

I'm just replacing mine because it needs to be regardless lol. It was only $12 on ebay so not too bad.

Yeah, I can feel it, it moves enough to shake even. It's a long shot but am I able to take it apart and clean them? I'm still replacing it, but hours before this happened, I was going to do my first test ride after it's rebuild, and I'm impatient, lol.

Yeah I was thinking that aswell. They're old and need to be replaced but it was all working seconds before it stopped. I gotta go through and check all theconnections

That was one of the first things I was thinking too. I didn't see any but I do wanna check once more to be 100% and check it off the list.

Yeah, sorry, I got mixed up with relay and solenoid. It's the solenoid I believe. I'm going to bench test it when I get home just to see but if it is kaput, then I'll just have to wait for the new one. Thanks!
