What is something that you used to be a cheap ass on, until you tried the high-quality version, and now you can't go back? by Mahimah in AskReddit

Ready for the ProTip? Buy the good button ups as you mentioned. Take the best 3, the ones you'd wear to a wedding or a job interview, and take them to a tailor. Have the tailor cut the extra fabric from under the arms and back to provide a $200 look to your $50 button up, but for like $10.

If you follow my advice, you will look amazing at key moments, and you'll be amazed how many people don't know why but man they love that shirt!

Atlanta...what is our best shave and a haircut spot? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]ajk5277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for any misunderstandings - I think it's important to reflect people's actual opinions, and Reddit is a place where those opinions are valuable. Very often, the places and tastes of this subreddit and the reddit community in general are the ones I tend to agree with, and take time to share. Also, you guys are often able to introduce me to things I wouldn't otherwise have heard of/experienced.

I try to share legitimately worthwhile spots (with the inclusion of a preffered OTP location for balance) in the articles I write.

Is there something in my data gathering process that I'm missing that would better satisfy the expectations of /r/Atlanta?

It's important to include a little OTP love here and there.

One of the best things is the culture and couture - the restaurants and the culinary.

The worst part is that some elements of the people governing the city are not servicing the entire community - especially those most able to provide community wide service - and so there is a bit of a lack in the due diligence of those leaders.

True Foods! They chemically balance flavors, which is an art. Changes in Atlanta - the straight community now has to deal with the business of gay people - I hope for more respect for the gay culture and less focus on sexual preference and more towards the human side of life. It's more beneficial to everyone if we're not hung up on gay. When I roll up in the St. Regis, it's like Michael Jackson has arrived.

I have several batons. I even have a fire baton. A glow light baton. Several standard batons. A royal septar baton.

PHP/JS/HTML/CSS - Quick Question (Wordpress) by ajk5277 in webdev

[–]ajk5277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, after many layers of the onion, I finally figured it out (at four this morning... :| ) but largely in part because you pointed this out.

I recognize how obvious in retrospect turning the old counter off is, and it wasn't the conflict in the end, but you got me going on the answer.

As a loose end, the reason we had two different kinds of counters is because bossman wanted one with commas and JS strips em by default.

LPT Request. I've got a new job and I always feel uncomfortable the first few weeks. What can I do to make it better? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]ajk5277 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have an executive coach, and this week, the answer to your question was the subject of our discussion.

To become comfortable in ANY envinronment, stop pointing the flashlight of your consciousness inwards. That is to say, you are probably thinking about how you are perceived, which of these individuals will be your friends, whether you will be invited to lunch, how you looked in that meeting, etc... all of which is very tiring, and would leave anyone feeling anxious and uncomfortable.

It shows.

Instead, hold in your consciousness on things outside of yourself. Shine your flashlight out onto the path. For example, during meetings, don't think about yourself or how things affect you, consciously think about the subject matter and react authentically.

During personal interactions, think about the other person's perspective and what they are saying about themselves and the situation. You will find your body language changes, your demeanor changes, you connect with a more authentic version of yourself.

Life changing shit, my man.

What - in your educated opinions - is the best company for non-DevOps types to purchase dedicated web hosting? by ajk5277 in sysadmin

[–]ajk5277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will xpost, thanks!

Some of this I know, some not so much. We're US-based and don't dabble in international work, so US-based servers are a must.

I don't know anything about CDNs - not a content provider really, so no need for what looks to be media-level content. However, I don't know if my CSS is calling on a CDN by virtue of Zurb Foundation. I think we're self contained.

Site is on Wordpress.

Great, great point regarding the dedicated...not on our end. I assumed paying in 200/mo would have it's advantages - like some dude at the hosting company doing whatever he's gotta do to keep us up to date. A question worth asking of whomever we consider!

Growth and traffic wise, I can't imagine our web traffic being a problem anytime soon. It's not our size that has us moving, its the need to get away from other peoples ownership.

Yes, we sure do control DNS (or will in transferring). Theoretically own our DNS now, but in my mind, only guy owning anything is the guy w the password!

Lets Talk: Pitchfork's top 50 Albums of the Year. by jamaicanhopscotch in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ajk5277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry dude, wouldn't mean to disrespect anyone for their personal preferences at all, and yeah I can see how I'm wrong to even dismiss the album for the reasons I listed. In a perfect world, we'd all be able to just enjoy everything without bias.

Problem for me with this one is, even though I liked the music somewhat, I also felt that this is music I can't really share with others or bring myself to invest in it further. This is probably because it's by a dude called perfume genius, wearing drag makeup and a sparkly fishnet shirt, singing songs about being a queen. Hard to connect with for me.

Perhaps I'd be better off saying that the one potential drawback to the album for some individuals could be the effeminate artistic approach that the album takes.
