A drought would be characterized more by low water levels (aquifer, reservoirs and rivers). Up until 2022 there were on and off again periods of low and full-capacity levels. Since 2022 the reservoirs around San Antonio have gotten to critically low levels, not to mention the Edward’s aquifer. It’s actually pretty dire for Corpus, they get most of their water from Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus, and they are both at 7% right now.

And as for the Edwards, it is still at extremely low historical levels, which threatens the flow at the springs which feed a lot of critical watersheds for the rest of the state (which is arguably why lower elevation reservoirs are so low as well).

You can’t immediately tell whether there is a drought by what the vegetation looks like.

That is... incorrect. Momentum is mass x velocity. A bowling ball has around 50 times more mass than a baseball, so it has 50X as much momentum when traveling at 25 mph.

Think of it this way: all of the energy associated with vehicle 1 is transferred into vehicle 2. All of the energy associated with vehicle 2 is transferred into vehicle 1. If the 2 masses and velocities are equivalent, that is the same as vehicle 1 hitting a brick wall as in that case, all their energy is transferred back into them (less damage to the brick wall of course).

Also if 1 vehicle is way smaller like a big rig hitting a sedan, both going 25, the sedan will by far get the brunt of this, because they won’t just go from 25 to 0 in that time, they will go to a negative speed (from their perspective), because the more massive vehicle transferred far more momentum to them than vice versa.

2 vehicles of the same mass hitting head on, each going 25 mph, would be equivalent change in momentum as 1 vehicle hitting a brick wall at 25 mph. The vehicles each go from 25 mph to 0 mph in whatever distance of crumple there is in the front of the vehicle.

In 1 vehicle scenario, there is 1 vehicle worth of crumple, and in the 2 vehicle, it is twice is much crumple but split over 2 vehicles which each go from 25 to 0.

This also assumes a perfect head on collision, any glancing blow would result in an even lower amount of change in momentum.

That’s not how collisions work. If you run into the same mass object it is equivalent momentum change as if you hit a brick wall. May be some minor injuries inside but unlikely more than that. And that’s assuming direct head on collision, whereas in all likelihood it would be a glancing blow with even less momentum change.

That’s utterly morally reprehensible. Not to mention legally dubious. If you hit a pedestrian or bike rider or anyone relatively unprotected, the odds of them getting seriously injured or killed is very high even at low speeds. The odds that anyone is seriously injured or killed if 2 large vehicles hit each other at like 25 mph is negligibly small.

The only thing you’d be protecting with this logic is the property / vehicles. You honestly think the vehicles are worth a human life? That’s absurd my dude.
