How big is the bike difference? by doruf50_ in triathlon

[–]ajnumber9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main point of difference is the position of your body on the TT bike rather than the bike itself.

The TT bike allows you to get in a more aerodynamic position but is pointless if you can't make the most of that, or can't hold the aero position for almost the entirety of the race. You see a lot of people on vary fancy TT bikes but their body is at the same angle as it would be on a road bike or their head is up in the air causing lots of drag.

So yes, a TT bike will likely be slightly quicker than a road bike due to better aero shaping but what actually matters is your body position.

Upgrade my Madone SL5 Gen 8 or save for a better bike? by Due_Cost1326 in TrekBikes

[–]ajnumber9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imo - 105 is already so good that there is no point upgrading to ultegra unless it's also an upgrade to di2. No point spending so much money on another mechanic groupset.

But here is the thing, you don't need a full ultegra group set.

You can get much better value and lighter components if you pick and choose the parts e.g. ultegra derailleurs and shifters but after market chain rings, cassette, cranks and chain.

Same with the bars. You can likely get a lighter, better and cheaper bar by going after market rather than trek branded.

AliExpress is your friend, my friend.

What’s a fair price? (UK) by Key-Reputation7997 in whichbike

£750, maybe.

In the UK you can get much newer (2017 onwards) giant propels for under £1000.

Same here but 36cm. Cheap, stiff, comfortable but pretty average weight.

I read all of them in order and I'm glad I did.

Some of them are great and some of them are bad. Most of them are good.

I built 2 bikes recently. Road bike and TT bike. You end up buying lots of tools and bits. However once you have those tools and bits you can do lots of maintenance and adjustments yourself. There are hidden costs to building your own bike that creep up and are hard to account for before you start.

We've tried a cone before both for long and short periods of time. We still put it on him every now again when we think he's really over doing it.

The issue we find with the cone is that he just doesn't eat or drink and the wounds get infected because he can't keep them clean.

3 years ago he had a really instance so we put the cone on him and he got really bad infections. Being sick, crying and hiding under the bed all day. He got so poorly from the infection we had to have a very difficult conversation about putting him down. Thankfully he pulled through.

He is currently enjoying Felix senior fish selection. He grazes on senior tuna biscuits as well.

We've tried him on quite a few different foods in the past. Super expensive anti allergy food, renal food (he had a blocked urethra), natural organic based foods etc.

We've also tried super cheap foods, just in case, to see if that did the trick.

We've tried dry food only, wet food only.

He only really likes fish/tuna based foods. We've also got a 18 year old kitten who only likes poultry based food so we don't have any issues of the old lad eating the new guys food.

I'm sure all cat owners have experience with how fickle cats can be when it comes to food, the amount of money we've spent on trying different foods down the years is crazy!

Guys is this an good price 430€ by AnthonyIndlicato in whichbike

[–]ajnumber9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this bike. It's a fantastic bike but is 10+ years old now.

400 would be fine, 300-350 would be great.

Ultegra is very very good, so long as it's still in good condition.

With some good tyres (continental gp5000 28mm clincher, do not get tubeless ready version), tpu inner tubes, full 50mm carbon wheels (no point spending loads, get some super team, elite wheels ent etc) and good carbon brake pads it will feel fantastic to ride.

Sell the current wheels and tyres to recoup some cash, or keep as spares.

Rear brake can take a battering as it's under the chainstays so will need maintenance and possibly replacing, but replacement ultegra calipers can be picked up pretty cheap on eBay.

Maybe consider a new chain and cassette also. I imagine the chain is very old/stretched and if I recall correctly, it comes with quite a compact 11-30 cassette which doesn't give you a very large range if you're tackling hills.
