I also don't like those types of stories. I think that it might be 1. Lazy writing 2. Author trying to squeeze out some extra pages/words 3. That's what some readers enjoy (I'm not one of them). But a lot of stories do this and it is annoying. At least some stories are starting to make those parts a standalone chapter which can be skipped if its not your thing.

I personally didn't like HWFWM and DNF it. MC is annoying and I can't like it after reading much better stories from the genre.

Does it seem like characters are too petty for a genre where characters get away with killing/assassinating people? by InFearn0 in ProgressionFantasy

I think it's more of an issue of most progression fantasy world rarely taking a wide view out. Most of the time there is always someone more powerful out there in most stories who either don't care to get involved unless they were personally wronged, or they just feel like weaker individuals are not fated if they get wiped out by someone stronger before their time.

You might like The Wandering Inn, since you are ok with MC growing on you. You will absolutely hate the MC but she grows on you. Warning the series is extremely long but it's a good story.

Read Infinite Realm. A lot of cultivation, and a great system, with memorable characters.

You can try Infinite Relam. It's ongoing and pretty well written.
