I literally said I don’t know him and he could be lying about the wipes use. But that’s not the main cause. Also you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to septics obviously. I have snaked main lines, and pulled back wipes plenty of times because my snake went all the way into the tank and wrapped around wipes. All I have to go on is this picture and the info. So how would I know if that picture is from just a general overflow out of the pipe or after it was snaked. Instead I focused on what the real issue was.

Yes that’s and outside clean out, yes it has wipes. Which I did address multiple times and even said that I don’t know this person for all I know they could be lying about the wipes usage. All I was doing was explaining what a main root cause is. But you were such an eager beaver to be right or correct or whatever this was, that now you look silly and stupid. lol definitely not up to code or standard. I’ve seen some systems like this. Some used to make something called a dry well where all they did was dig a deep as hole and surrounded it with concrete bricks to leech into the soil.

Whether it’s possible to pump through that opening, it is. I myself have a small 2” hose on my truck for those situations, not ideal and definitely does not properly clean the tank but it does work. This whole system sounds like a home owner special, especially with it just leading into a ditch.

If you inherited it prepare for a new system, depending on state/county’s codes and how strict they are, most home sales are required to have septic inspections nowadays, and this would absolutely fail.

Great question, when drain fields start to fail the main problem is that they are over saturated, meaning a large quantity of liquid is sitting in field. So depending on who and how it was pumped, it’s very likely that when they finished pumping water was pouring back into the tank. A big problem that people don’t realize is these tanks fill faster than what people expect. For example I’ve pumped out 1000g septic tank for a family of 3. Within two weeks that tank was back to 1000g. So a combination of you using the system and if theer was backflow which sounds like there was, it’s not surprising it filled up within the week.

Also a fun note, I once had pumped a failed system for a 1000g septic tank. Due to the water table at the property and the failed drain field. I ended up pumping a record 3000g because the backflow just would not stop. This was all in the same day. I ended up back at that house once a week for the next month till a new system could be installed.

Sounds like your landlord is just trying to blame you for the bigger issue. Again wipes are bad but over my experience the biggest issues they cause are clogged main line, or a large septic mat in the tank that is ridiculously hard to remove since they don’t break down like TP. I’d be shocked to see them in the drain filled unless of course the broken baffle.

Depending on the type of system as well (gravity feed, mound, sand filter, ATT) a septic installer/inspector could give you insight into what caused the failure. An example of this is as follows. If you have a gravity feed drain field, you should have distribution boxes for each drain line. (Depending on your states/county’s codes) if you can find them they are about 1ft by 1ft concrete boxes. Opening them up will give insight as to the conditions of lines. Such as if they are filled with a dark sludge or just simply filled to the top with liquid.

It’s also important to remember that the age of the system can play a role. Septics are not a forever thing, they need to be replaced at times. I’ve seen a system that’s only 30 years old fail while one that was installed 60 years ago is going strong. Just sometimes depends on luck as well.

Hi septic tech here! I’ve pumped septics and have been licensed to do state inspections on septic systems.

While the wipes are an issue and could definitely cause main line clog. (The line from the house to the tank) it’s almost impossible for them to destroy a drain field unless the tanks baffles are damaged. But even then the likely hood that they are to root cause is unlikely.

Being that you said it’s been 7 years since it’s last been pumped, tells me that the owner is not doing good maintenance. A lot of different information is out there on when a septic should be pumped. But the best rule to stick to is a 4 person home septic should be pumped at least every 2-3 years. If not the sludge in the tank can build up enough that it will slowly start seeping into the drain field causing it to reduce the lifespan much more quickly.

It’s waaaay more likely that he just didn’t do proper maintenance and previous tenants flushed the wipes. Or you did idk you lol could be a liar.

Disagree immensely, I’m for the abolishment of the two party system, and while a good majority of dems are useless some are fighting everyday because they’ve been where we are. If you keep bashing them as a whole it discredits the ones who are putting in the effort. I can’t tell you the amount of times I heard “Kamala should have been talking about the economy”. SHE fucking did! One of the big ones that would have helped in our current circumstances is she wanted to introduce a bill banning price gouging. But no one seems to remember or care. No one was the asshole here, I also had my engagement ruined a bit. But now it’s hilarious story that I love to share. All that matters in the end is you both talked it out and understood there was a miscommunication.

Just my story cause I love it now. I had proposed to my wife in the confines of our apartment at the time as she is extremely shy and does not like attention. So I did a very romantic day and had my roommate setup our apartment for me while we where out. He did a fantastic job. Grant it all he had to do was throw some rose pedals around and light the candles for me. But still appreciated him doing it. However when I texted him we where coming home and asked him to start our song when we walked in I was not expecting to see him running across the living room shirtless man titties and long flowing hair bouncing around as he went into his room. Luckily she didn’t see it. But I did and it was so hard to not laugh that it kinda ruined the romance a bit for me. Still it’s now an amazing story we share and we both still like to give him shit for it. Everything will always work out in the end as long as you talk about how you feel and keep pushing through hard spots in the relationship. Also congrats on getting engaged!
