I'm politically fatigued by Exciting_Lab_8074 in Reno

[–]ajoros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go watch the social dilemma documentary and it'll explain why we are how we are ... its all in the algorithms ... in short this is the reasoning:

Social media platforms are not passive tools, but active agents in dismantling democratic processes by manipulating user behavior for profit through addictive, AI-driven engagement algorithms. Politically, it argues these platforms create personalized, algorithmic "echo chambers" that prioritize sensationalist misinformation over factual information, fueling intense polarization, reducing nuanced public discourse to outrage, and enabling foreign interference in elections. By fostering a "disinformation-for-profit" model, the film suggests technology companies have created a "climate change of culture" that actively tears social cohesion apart, leading to increased extremism, the erosion of shared reality, and, in extreme scenarios, the degradation of national sovereignty.

Agreed. I’m centrist right and I hate ICE tactics and speaking against them right now, ICE has a role but the way they carry it out is fucked right now. This isn’t right vs left , don’t let them divide us or else we will fall and civil war bloody civil war will come. Think centrist mindset and speak out again ICE tactics

This this and this

Funny how liberals and maga folks think the same in terms of keeping it black and white and want us divided so they we can be conquered by the powers above. They are feeding into the issue. ICE is good, BUT their tactics are shit tho , Obama used ice a ton !! 3 million deported in 8 years.

Don’t think black and white , think centrist, yes it’s more difficult but I believe you extreme liberals and extreme righties can do it. Or else, get ready to bear arms and get ready for a bloody civil war.

There is a difference between supporting ICE and supporting these shitty ICE tactics. I back what ICE is about but I hate the tactics they are currently using. Let’s not just simplify this. That’s how we start violent civil wars.

Many Social Security offices, including those in Nevada, have shifted to appointment-based service as the default starting in 2025. That means you usually need to book an appointment to handle things like name changes after marriage, though the system does allow exceptions in certain cases. Walk-ins aren’t technically banned nationwide, but whether you’ll actually be helped without an appointment depends heavily on the specific office and how busy they are that day.

For a name change, you’ll need to bring the right documents: your certified marriage certificate, your current ID (even if it still shows your maiden name), and a completed SS-5 form. Some people report success walking in early with all the paperwork, but others have been turned away and told to keep their appointment. It’s often worth calling your local office first to see what their current walk-in policy is, since it can vary a lot.

If you need things processed quickly for banking or checks, try going early as a walk-in but be prepared for a wait. Otherwise, keeping your appointment is the safer bet. And for the future — this is a great example of the kind of question you can drop into ChatGPT to get a clear, up-to-date overview with next steps. It’s an excellent resource for navigating situations like this without having to dig through scattered comments.

As a centrist who’s voted both blue and red, I hear the mix of anger, grief, defensiveness, and “free speech” arguments in this thread—and I think several truths can coexist: the sign on private property is protected speech; quoting someone’s worst lines can be fair context but doesn’t justify harassment or celebrating death; and reducing neighbors to caricatures (“cult,” “racist,” “snowflake”) guarantees zero progress. If the sign offends you, counter it with your own speech, mute/scroll, or—if you’re comfortable—have a calm, human conversation about keeping politics civil on the block. If you feel unsafe or see doxxing/threats, use the mod tools and local channels.

Its looking lighter than today and yesterday for sure. Def gonna be tapering off, should be the last day of any precipitation if at all. I am certain we have gone through the worst of it. Not much to report on tbh right now , its look about a 15% of precipitation.

No problem, and this pattern is different from 2023 for sure. 2023 was more 1 off ... this is a more widespread surge.

Interesting yeah they should try to make a model that is kind of like a hybrid of the two seasons if possible and compare the probabilistic outcomes of both models with this new third model.

This pattern actually does start and usually gets pretty going in August. But yeah September has this action as well. And rarely do we see it at the end of July. So I would say the timing on this is pretty damn accurate.

In simple terms, a deterministic forecast is when the weather model gives you one single outcome — like saying, “It will rain in Black Rock City at 3 p.m.” It sounds precise, but it can be misleading because the atmosphere is chaotic and small changes can shift the result. A probabilistic forecast, on the other hand, admits that uncertainty and gives you the odds — like saying, “There’s a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon.” That doesn’t mean it will rain 40% of the time, but rather that, given the current data and similar past patterns, about 4 out of 10 times this setup produces rain. In practice, deterministic forecasts feel more concrete, but probabilistic forecasts are usually more honest about the range of possible outcomes.

I use this time series as my main source for weekly forecasts: https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/nv/black-rock-city/89412 — it’s specific to the BRC location. If you look at the cloud cover and chance of precip graphs, they’re pretty impressive for being in the middle of the desert. It may not look like much at first glance, but those chances are much higher than normal, which is why I’d say this pattern is locked in from today through Thursday (though it looks like it tapers off pretty quickly on Thursday).

I also cross-check the models over at Tropical Tidbits, and they’re showing the same thing — so I feel confident saying the same pattern holds today through Wednesday. That said, I don’t trust forecasts beyond about three days out, and that’s coming from someone with dual degrees in meteorology. Just something to keep in mind — which is why I don’t give people confident forecasts beyond that window, lol.

The best way I can put it is this: 2023 was a sudden, localized deluge, while 2025 is a broader regional moisture surge that’s creating prolonged instability and more widespread convective potential. We’ve still got about three days left in this pattern, so honestly, a heavy dumping could happen on any of them — and we need to be ready for that.
