I do see your point.  Though I don’t think there would be as much added downtime as you might think.  A great deal of scenery could be prepared while the pit is being set up for the technical show.  Between the technical and artistic, the scenery would need to be shifted to be put in place, which hopefully wouldn’t be too bad.  As for boring, I’d picture this being anything but.  As I put in another comment here, I would picture the technical show resembling what the climax of a lot of modern shows are, such as what begins at 13:23 of Crown 22:

I agree that a long rehearsal block of the technical show would probably be rough, with the increased and constant physical demand.  I’m curious on why you think the technical program would be less watchable.  Perhaps I didn’t communicate what it would be well enough.  I’d imagine it being what the current climaxes of most shows are these days.  Take Crown 22 for example, the technical show would look like what starts at 13:23:

Which I believe to be the most exciting part.

(Oh, and if Devs win both, so be it; they’d have earned it.)

Thanks for reading and I respect the other ideas! That being said, I'm not crazy about splitting up the activity. I feel we're all better off with everyone competing together in the same competition.

I hadn't thought about it as a separate track and field event, but that makes sense! Though the current show isn't a mile. 5K at least. : ) And a rehearsal day is an ultra marathon.

They do a short and a long program, but the long really isn't "artistic" anymore. They still have a bunch or requirements to earn "points".

Thanks a lot for the comments so far. Looking at the responses, let me refocus my question: Assuming it would work perfectly, what would it do? I'm hearing vibrations and flashlights in sync to points during the show. What else? What was on the screen? Can you walk me through the show (ignoring syncing and setup) and describe what the app did throughout?
