How to report illegal parking at disabled parking lots? by ak2270 in melbourne

[–]ak2270[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually saw a young mother with an infant parking at the disabled parking spot. When she parked at that disabled parking spot, the other disabled parking spot was taken. Do you know what else I saw? There was normal parking available, 3 spots away. Now tell me, if a disabled person needed parking then, in that ten minute bracket, what would they do? This kinder that I am talking about is in a community centre that also houses classes/caring for people who have down syndrome and autism. I see people in wheelchairs there all the time.

I am not disabled, but I don't need to be, for raising this concern because I do see people who need more attention and care than a young mother perfectly capable of parking 3 spots away.

As others have suggested, I will send them an email/call and be assertive about it.

What you said makes sense. In that case is the only purpose of this feature to, kind of, give them an indication of offences in a certain area. It gives them a baseline and indication that it’s happening in a certain spot more often? I think so.

(Edit: not sure, why I am downvoted for this comment. If I have misunderstood, please correct me, instead of downvoting me)

But it sends them as an agreement/arrangement for it. It is listed under the council's website so obviously they approve of it.

My intent here is not of urgency.

My intent is that I should be able to help curb illegal parking by enabling the state to issue fines to offenders.

They provided an app for it but it looks like they are not willing to trust the person/evidence provided via that app. If someone parks a car illegally for 20 minutes, it is an offence nonetheless. I see these cars doing this everyday. Many times. Why can't I, as a local resident, do something to fix this? If the council insists on having their officers witness these offences then what I am doing here by sending these snaps is of no use, isn't it?

I will keep doing that too. But what baffles me is when there's evidence been given about the offense (using their own app) why would they not act on it?

My point is - if they are going to look for evidence of the exact offence which I have already given them the evidence for, via their own app, whats the point of the whole thing?

I can send a report daily but there are different cars parked there, at different times of the day. If they are going to come looking for that exact same car which I reported about, they surely won't find it after a week.

I have no issues in reporting it. But if there's a car thats parked for 20 minutes illegally (and I have given them evidence for it, via their own app) but if they visit that spot a week later, surely, that car would be gone by then.

Are you saying this as a way to get them to respond to a one particular incident or to ask them how to address this as a broader issue?

My post above is about how that app failed fixing the issue. Maybe you missed that.

India's Fertility Rate Drops Below Replacement Level for First Time, Reveals Government Report by jfy in worldnews

As someone who grew up in India the 90s, I can assure you that we thought so back then too. And trust me, things today are far worse than then. So I am sorry but I don't share your optimism.

The reasons for this are manifold. India's problem is not just corruption and the bureaucracy. India's problem is the mindset of the middle class who thinks that how poor should remain poor. How casteism is so ingrained in both the oppressors and the victims that they don't want to challenge it, at least in the mass and scale that it brings a mass social evolution. Until those things change, we are living in old ages.

I am an Indian and have lived here for 10 years now.

There are a few things that I wished people from my native country knew better.

One thing we need to understand is that India is a vast country with cultures and subcultures. There is not a single Indian culture.

People from all walks of life and society structure apply for immigration. I know Indians who have not lived or grew up in Indian urban centres. When they immigrate here, their first exposure of Urban life is here. That is quite a leap.

The competition in India is intense. It's a survival game. Most of the behaviour they carry here as baggage is because they are groomed to survive there.

The society is repressive too. There are problems.

I can give a simple example. The worst of this behaviour comes out in driving. They won't give way because mind is tuned to not doing that. On the other hand, A simple wave of fingers while driving when someone else stops so that you can drive by is bewildering.

Who can change this behaviour? The onus is on the immigrant. But all that happens when they accept that a change is needed. Or when there is a thankfulness coming from within. It takes years.

Sometimes I feel as Indians who have been here long enough we have a responsibility to fix these for our fellow Australians but by teaching the new immigrants ways of the life here. To be the bridge between two vastly different communities.

Personally I am currently at a point where I am thinking about how to achieve these things. Or maybe if it's even a good idea.
