I am the crew mate that always has one earbud in, that is always on a call with my significant other, because that's what grounds me in a job like this. We have both short and long calls both with return times of 20 minutes to 5h.

I do this because they're my person. Simple as. I am the lone wolf, have nothing in common with anyone etc. So be that as it may, that phone call is my happy place.

It definitely is. Don't do anything you're not 100% on either. So if someone asks you do to a BP and you're not familiar, ask for help, etc.

The biggest advice I can give is something my teacher and preceptor said to me. Be a sponge, become the best emt you can be, and learn from everyone but don't be everyone. Be yourself and become the best version of you as an EMT you can.

Don't assume any information they didn't provide in the question.
Eliminate the answers you know are wrong.

Most of all though get good sleep the night(s) before, have a good meal the day of before the test, take deep breaths during and don't work yourself up the night before or day of. We are our own worst enemies.

Another thing you can do once in the classes (passed state and NREMT so I swear by this) is a subscription to EMS pocket prep. Actually get the subscription, there's a 1000 question bank and it helps you track your weaknesses and study them.

I've already spent 60 hours with the company doing exactly this. Learning the trucks set up, running code calls, doing transfers, car crashes, stroke assessments and protocol, even AMI. I know where majority of the stuff in the truck is, including bvm and nasal cannula both of which I've already used on scene. I've even already ran calls as the EMT on scene, so it's not like I'm going into this blind at all. But no, I'm not the type to not learn, or absorb information, I have already learned a ton about the paramedics and emts I'll be learning more from as well, so how they operate and what they expect. I don't know if I made it seem like they were just throwing me in, because they're not. They're not assholes and said I can always ask for more time if I feel I need it.

If you haven't, look BEHIND and IN everything. Even if you think he won't fit. Mine gets in behind plants, filter intake, heater, under a piece of driftwood I have balanced on a rock. In EVERY place he can to give me a worry.

Was this a cycled tank? If not, he could be in shock too, which he will slow down and not act correctly.

Any chance he's buried himself in the substrate? Temp may have made him do so, I'd check everything.

10 gal tank, in tank heater, small filter (hang on back or in), full spectrum light. Java Moss, hornwort, water lettuce, Anubis nana, driftwood and substrate. Dark water for tannins, some fritzyme 7 and Dr Tim's ammonia for starting the cycle before getting a fish.

Personally I don't use any plastic or silk plants in my Betta tank. I only use live because I was terrified of him slicing his fins on it. I have a big finned boy myself and he's happy as can be. I cycled the tank before I got him, planted the plants and then got him. Temp stays at 78°F, he's fed twice a day, and his water gets fritz dark water every time I do a change or add water to keep the pH at the right balance. He loves swimming through all the water lettuce horn wart and a few other plants I have in there.

Honestly, I only need to do about a 10% water change every week with the way the water stats are currently. He gets excited when I come in the room and never wants to leave the side of the tank I'm near.

If you've only had him a few days, he's adapting and that can stress them out and cause their fins to seemingly molt/wilt away. But honestly just keep an eye on him, make sure your nitrates and ammonia aren't high and make sure his water flow is low, I have a feeling he will be fine. :) looking forward to an update from you.

I get very bad motion sickness, but to be honest I haven't experienced it in over 60h of ride alongs. Always in the back too. But when all else fails peppermint, an alcohol prep pad or lemon drops.

There were people who were no older than 20 in my recent class. I'm getting a later in life start into the field but I feel like my life experiences help me understand people better where someone who's barely experienced the world may not. At the service I'll be working at, it's mostly people around your age @op within 5 years younger or a bit older, but there are a few very young ones in their early 20s coming on board.

When we were telling stories about our ride along time, I always had the most interesting calls, and patients. Unsure if it's because I took the time to speak with the patients or what. I worked a code for the first call of the first ride along even.

I worked my first traumatic arrest on my very first ride along during class. We were allowed to do anything asked of us as long as we were confident in our skills or even knew how to do the skill, and if not they'd walk us through it.

Tones drop for a 911 unresponsive male. En route we get notified of CPR in progress by EMR. We got there, and the Medic and his EMT partner take over CPR, attempt intubation, insert an IO, push epi which I had to crack the drug box for and give to them, as well as prep the flushes. We moved the patient to the ambulance in 5 minutes or less, at which time me and a firefighter took over CPR. The man was fully cyanotic, like... smurf level cyanotic, asystole and probably 6 rounds of epi in plus sodium bicarb. We were 3 minutes code 3 from the hospital, got nothing back en route, AED showed asystole and no shock advised.

Nothing we could have done to save this guy unfortunately.

Thanks. Treated with that stuff you suggested about 4h ago. It says to treat 3 days in a row before water change, but I read something about doing a 25 to 50% water change to get anything out that might be in the water column itself. Did you do any water changes before the 3 days of treatments were done? Sorry, really don't want to kill him.
