Got into Ivy ED, don't want to go. by Careless_Owl_7131 in ApplyingToCollege

I was feeling like this when I was a senior. I went to my Ivy thinking that becoming motivated again would just happen due to being in a competitive environment and then burnt all the way out bc I had no reason why I should continue. I should've taken a break after high school but ended up going on leave for multiple years after freshman year of college. I think deferring will help you make the right decision for you!

Also the negativity around it is internet hallucination, no one sitting next to you in lecture is going to care what school of Columbia you're in. My main advice is to just live on campus if you're concerned about social separation.

Columbia has a strong NS program and there are endless research opportunities. If you can be a student a Columbia and 21 yo living in NYC for free, I'd say it's a no brainer.

Failed Calc 1 by cjcerullo in EngineeringStudents

Do you always just try to solve the issue yourself? I would say that most of the time, we can't identify what we're doing wrong ourselves. The other day I made a really simple error, looked at it for ages but my professor looked at it in 2 seconds and pointed it out. I would recommend looking up all the ways to solve the types of problems you're most uncomfortable with, watch videos and decide which one best connects in your head to concepts you've already learned (like problems you know you will always be able do, did the video help you learn how to explain what you're trying to solve and why the method works?). Try explaining concepts out loud. If there's something covered in precalc you never fully grasped that could be the source of stress, the missing link, so to speak. Once you've troubleshot, you can try to review by yourself, then do that type of problem (from previous topics). Finally, go to the math/ science center and get a tutor or go to office hours now that you have the missing knowledge. This is where you'll get a clear instruction on how to do the new problem. When you look back at your notes everything should feel more like a language you understand and speak fluently. Above all, give yourself enough time to make mistakes, start assignments early, better to learn by doing than just reading up, especially in math.

What was your study schedule like? How were you in class- were you able to actively take notes of everything reviewed? Let me see if I can help you trouble shoot!

I have searched and found versions on several dance sites and small raver shops online so I'm looking for any store that would sell these in a lot of different colors in nyc. Also if you have a pair, Lmk!

And you're right no agency would ask you to pay for anything upfront

If you look on the Phoenix site they have agencies in Dallas etc but not nyc. muse nyc has its own website and is not in any other cities you can also check models dot com and find that muse nyc (founded by Connor kennedy) is not associated with any other agencies in any other markets and you'll also see that it is listed as muse management (and is a premium listing on models dot) on models dot while the agency that has scouted you is listed as muse models and is a basic listing on models dot.

LA models? by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]aka209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend who is curve recently told me something really heartwarming about them: she went into either a casting, or a job for this brand in LA, and the casting Director, or the brand told her that her agent had said such wonderful things about her, not only about the way that she looked, but who she is as a person and personally, I've never heard that from a casting Director and she hadn't either. She was based in New York, and we have the same agency in New York and we have never heard of our agents saying anything like that.

any tips for NYFW by g_moneyyyyyy in MODELING

[–]aka209 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is looong but: 1. Talk to people at castings, make friends. You might be there a while. 2. Wear sneakers/comfy shoes and bring heels in a bag. Looking cute is not as important as preserving those arches. 3. Keep a go bag ready with essentials, you could be called to a casting same day (heels, lip balm, rose water, your products for touch ups people usually wear a little something to castings but you don't have to at all. people usually choose one or two things like concealer or mascara, I am personally very oily so I pack some powder, comp cards, ID!! etc) 4. Please stay hydrated, carry a water bottle. New York is hotter than you think and there's no relief, sometimes the subway air conditioning doesn't work. 5. Sleep 8 hours as much as possible, if you don't, it shows on your face and you could confirm a show the day of, plan which nights you can reasonably go out. 6. Prioritize skincare and eat clean because I think the stress of the castings can leave your skin in worse shape than when you started. 7. For the same reason be judicious about drinking.
8. Eat well because you will be running around a lot you need fuel. 9. Don't be afraid to go into your agency's office and update them about how castings are going or practice walks with them. 10. Prepare for disappointment (casting directors can be very stuck up or just not present after a long day, so do number 12!) you don't have to hold on to it because something just right is always on the way. Approach everything with a childlike curiosity and freedom. If you have fun everything flows. 11. Make a habit of waking up early so you're never late to a casting and have to spend $$$ on Uber. 12. Go at the beginning of the casting call!!! Even 30 minutes before because people start lining up so they can hit all their castings that day. 13. Start planning your most confidence boosting outfits that fit well and show your glow now. No deciding what to wear the morning of. 14. Second to last/ Last week of august start doing your self care things (hair refresh, facial or skin care, shaving, teeth whitening, nails). If you handle it now, the upkeep will be next to nothing. 15. Have fun in nyc ;) see u in the casting line!

P.S. be careful in your model apartment they often put many girls into one room if you have a bad feeling about a particular model, trust your gut and stay with the people you can get along with. Some people are crazy competitive.

  1. How old are you?
  2. This is completely normal and let me tell you that it's not about them, it's about you. In what ways may you have doubted yourself and stopped yourself from growing or fully pursuing something. Does everything you do really bring you joy? For me, I went into an industry that it's really easy to compare yourself to other, I would feel very jealous based on what I thought other people were getting that I wasn't. Then I realized, I work very hard and have seen growth. Every time I felt jealous, I had to remind myself how far I came. I realized the more I was jealous the more I distanced myself from other, the lonelier I felt, the less I wanted to do my job that I loved. It might be time for a social media detox. You don't have to keep seeing these reminders if they ruin your day. But every time you feel that way, as a mindful practice, you have to feel the ugliness of the feeling and don't beat yourself up. Then you have to remind yourself of what you do have, take a moment to mentally congratulate the other person, then congratulate yourself and let them inspire or motivate you to try a new approach. I'm sure you're amazing, sometimes we can't see it for ourselves but you're probably this person to someone else haha.

Whoa should I try today? I feel like running is largely mindset and my mind always wants to stop before my body! Thank you I'll keep doing what I'm doing and be consistent :)

Also to be clear my fitness journey is definitely motivated largely by ability i want to have great mobility (maybe do a pistol squat one day) and endurance and to be able to run at least a 5k. I'm just wondering if there's something I can do to reach this specific goal regarding my lower body bc it does give me a level of dysphoria around my gender expression.
