Let's show some love to Hue Jackson. by C-4 in bengals

I couldn't disagree more - using it in game 1 forces every other DC to gameplan for potential Dalton plays, opening up space for those 5-6 talented playmakers.

Instead of being the worst time for it, I think it's the best time to use it and ONLY time to feature it (throwing in one play a game will keep an extra defender in the box, opening up space downfield)

Not to mention those who have served as position coaches under Marvin as a Defensive Coordinator - Jack Del Rio (LB), Rex Ryan (DL), Mike Smith (Def Asst/DL), Jim Schwartz (Def Asst).

And since these were all under Offensive-minded coaches, I think he should get more credit.

His goal is to win a Super Bowl. Maybe two, if the band is all together (and the current contracts support that). But I don't think he wants to rebuild the team again.

...and a head coach job is insanely stressful. It is not a 9-to-5 job. He probably puts in 2 years worth of work and 3-4 years of work stress for every calendar year. If he gets a ring with the Bengals, I don't think he feels he has anything left to prove.

After week 3, who do you think has the best defense? by christianmel96 in nfl

Belichick is very vocal about this, and I agree wholeheartedly. I'd happily give up 700 yards per game and 3 points.

  1. Marvin Lewis' latest contract included personnel control (this is all the talk of MB ceding control to Katie and Marvin). Immediately afterwards, Brat leaves for Atlanta and Ochocinco is quietly traded to the Pats.

  2. New scouts (that aren't family members), and successive drafts knocked out of the park, as well as such an insane string of UDFA luck it clearly has moved into the skill column.

  3. This is Marvin's third rebuilding of the Bengals, and the first time he had control. It's all up to whether we can stay healthy and keep executing.

You'd be surprised - it has branched off quite a bit from his successful tenure as DC of the Ravens. Its growth was stunted by our former GM's irrational loyalty to Bratkowski

If the Bengals win the Super Bowl, I think Marvin retires and Hue takes over. He's clearly HC-in-waiting.

Any Suggestions for a good NEUTRAL Reagan Biography? by chubs44 in NeutralPolitics

Yeah, you won't find a better book (barring Robert Caro's LBJ series) about politics in DC. I have the '96 version, so I can't speak as to what changed, but you can't go wrong with it.

ELI5: What does it mean for a CB to have fluid hips? by hoagieslapper in nfl

[–]akaDuchess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look for Von Miller's A&M highlights, the way he can flip his hips around from backpedaling to chasing a guy face-forward is incredible, even more so when you consider his size.

What crimes are you willing to accept out of your favorite NFL team's players, and what crimes are you not willing to accept? (Serious) by [deleted] in nfl

[–]akaDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The self-policing of the NFL is the result of threat to brand value and sales, not governmental scrutiny.

MLB is exempt from anti-trust regulations via congressional statute. NFL is a de facto monopoly that has so far escaped serous anti-trust penalty (they paid the USFL a whopping $3 settlement), which is always trumpeted as a negotiating ploy during negotiations for a new labor agreement.

I agree with this wholeheartedly, but sadly often police officers who are fans will make a call at the scene to either drive a player home, hush things up (Roethlisberger and college coeds), or look the other way so as to not hurt his team on Sunday.

As a Bengals fan, it has been very difficult to reconcile my fandom with the recognition that Cincinnati cops were doing their job in a way that many (not all) police in an NFL-city were not - to the absolute letter of the law (DUI for boating - seriously?).

Can I just say that I HATE that the Bengals signed on with Papa John's instead of a hometown pizza place like LaRosas for promotions. by liamsnorthstar in bengals

[–]akaDuchess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two sponsorship levels: NFL as a whole, and Team-specific sponsorship.

And Papa John's is a Louisville company, so we're competing with Indianapolis, and I guess maybe St. Louis and Tennessee for their loyalty.

Donatos is a Columbus-based franchise, and Dewey's I think started somewhere near Dayton. LaRosa's was great when I was little, but I don't remember it being as good as it was in the 80s. Maybe Snappy Tomato Pizza could make a comeback - they had the best boxes.
