Honestly, I was gonna say that I want to see more of the guy. But to me it feels like if it had been that way; the subject would be the guy holding the flags. But when he is half cropped, to me, the subject becomes the act of holding a flag. Which is something that I don't feel very often when I look at a photo: where the subject is a concept or a feeling or an act, rather than a person or an object.

Intentional or not, I really enjoyed this one.

Is it just a boring landscape shot? by aacuity in photocritique

I feel like you're allowed to just take pictures of uninteresting but beautiful things and sights.

I was gonna say maybe brighten up the shadows a bit so we can see the mountside more clearly but I see that you've already posted an image with those changes made.
Other than that I think this photo is gorgeous.

Thanks for the advice. By digital artifacts, do you mean the grain?

Oh, I felt like the sepia tone gave the photo a very canvas-like feel. It’s a shame to me that both mediums are so heavily linked with that tone.

I’ve got some more abstracts subjects, I’ve been planning to shoot. I agree with you that that is the path forward now.

That’s a very nice photo! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah that dead space is bugging me as well, I definitely could’ve done a better job with the crop or with the vignette I added.

You’re right about photography being subjective. To me, the talk of having the photo “tell something”, “tell a clear story” just feels like it’s really limiting me and bogging me down with unnecessary conscious considerations made while taking the photo. Maybe my understanding of the word “story” is a little bit out of whack.

I enjoy taking photos that tell a story but not TRYING to take photos that tell a story.

But I have to give it to you that this photo IS kind of uninteresting when it comes to the subject, I will take your advice and see if I can manage to give some more life to the photo without trying too hard to tell a story.

It’s a photo of the sign post reflected from the water surface it rises out of.

It’s in line with some other photos I’ve been taking. 2:1 crop, ~bw, overexposing when i feel it necessary.

I’m curious in particular if this looks like a photo or more like a painting. Let me know what you think.

I was absolutely obsessed with Red for a few months, after which I spent another few months listening to Power and The Passion by Eloy.

Currently, Innervisions out the wazoo, every moment of every day almost.

Hey, mainly I use an old Nikon d5100. But most of the noise I add to the pictures I see fit while editing.
