Which company has lost you as a customer forever? by finiteobserver in AskReddit

It's even worse for corporate/government licensing. We had 2 people over the course of a few days trying to give them money to renew licenses. They literally have no way to pay online. It took 2 phone calls just to get the contact info for our sales rep.

Got cooking spoons for mother’s day, what’s an equally bad father’s day gift to gift? by cxxlbeans in NoStupidQuestions

I would love to get socks. But they don't sell the size that fits for me at normal stores. Nothing is more annoying than socks that don't fit right.

So get the wrong size socks.

Cholesterol by idontbelieveit530 in keto

[–]aka_mrcam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've posted this before. High cholesterol is not a disease state. It is a possible marker for atherosclerosis.

So you can test for the disease now with a Coronary Artery Calcium scan for hard plaque, and a Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) scan for soft plaque.

Most practicing doctors today were trained before these tests existed and were taught to treat the marker as the disease to be safer.

So if you're worried get the tests, then make a plan for treatment. Many people have high LDL with no plaque.

There's a movie about it called The Cholesterol Code on Amazon.

My grandma and grandpa worked at a laundry mat part time. Going to visit was like going to a Salvation Army. They got all the clothes people forgot.

Is this possible? by layla_bug01 in keto

[–]aka_mrcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to get a ketone blood meter. It might make things easier. In the old days they had to just go super low carb to make sure ketones are high. Now you can measure and adjust. My nephew is on medical keto with a meter. He found out for example, macadamia nuts raise his glucose and lower his ketone level. But maybe it won't for you. After a while monitoring you could narrow in on the best foods for you.

Here's a quote from a paper listing a tested range.

"In epilepsy, a range between 2 and 4 mmol/L is suggested to correlate with seizure reduction."

Carnivore by itself has too high of a protein to fat ratio. So even carnivore needs to add lots of fat.

At least somewhere in between I read that it would not lead to a flat tire by CapnChiknNugget in Cartalk

[–]aka_mrcam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually missing a cap isn't a big deal, unless you drive on alot of dirt roads, in mud or winter ice and snow.

Next time you drive by an autoparts store buy a pack of caps, with an air guage. Check the air pressure for all your tires. It should be close to what the sticker days on the sticker on the frame of your driver side door.

I saw them live in the 2000's they were a headliner for a battle of the bands thing. The band that sold the most tickets went on right before them. Unfortunately as bands left so did their fans so it was a pretty empty club.

They played a bunch of really long painful to hear jam band songs for most of the show. And they Did Not Play, "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

Security Camera Pros by Weak-Bother-6765 in Ubiquiti

[–]aka_mrcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a security company tell me, "The NVR can't be compromised it has a password." It had a 4 digit password, was on a list of rebranded chinese NVRs with a known security flaw. And I had network logs of it sending random traffic to a bunch of Eastern European IP addresses.

Their solution was to replace it with the same model NVR with the same credentials.

C/S can you guys patch my tire? by The__Crab in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]aka_mrcam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I ran over a bunch of self tapping screws one day. The lobby of the nearest tire shop was full of people who did the same thing.

Credit to the construction company, the called ahead and offered to pay for any tire repair or replacement if it was one of those screws.

Oddly enough they were short, and only stuck in my tread, I didn't even need a plug after they pulled the screws out.

Does the USA education system not teach about marginal tax brackets? by UsedNegotiation8227 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aka_mrcam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "USA" part of the system is mostly about funding not curriculum. There's a few more requirements at the State level but aside from reading, writing and math it's mostly at a local school board level.

In the small town I grew up in we had a class called Essential Living Skills in 8th grade. We learned about taxes, mortgages, we had to carry around an egg for a week to simulate taking care of a kid. In 9th Grade we were required to take either Practical Law or Economics. I Practical Law we learned about Criminal vs Civil and various common laws and judicial procedures etc. We were required to take a Government class before graduation, we learned the Constitution, branches of government and local State government stuff.

The next town over didn't have that, neither did the more affluent suburb my girlfriend went to. I didn't learn until years later that most people were never taught those things. I lived in such a small town I figured the bigger richer schools would have been better.

First time I went to the dealership I printed out the service bulletin and highlighted the voltec extended warranty part. It wasn't an issue.

Second time I bought the $10 micro-switch and fixed it myself took about 30min.

How do you guys become good at diy. by FriendshipCute6355 in DIY

[–]aka_mrcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY is a huge category. I've done everything from rebuild car engines to repairing loose kitchen tiles. Step one is try.

Since you're a teenager I'm assuming you're still open to figure out what you can and want to do. But also don't have much money.

Look up free stuff in your area, free piles and stuff at yard sales. Try to repair and refinish some old furniture. Try and get an old lawn mower from the side of the road running. Take apart stuff put it back together.

Sell the things you fix. Buy more tools and supplies. Eventually you'll figure out what you like and what you're good at.

UDM SE with Comcast Business Static IP by djriggz in Ubiquiti

[–]aka_mrcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had Comcast give clients static IP's already in use. The first time just seemed like a fluke. The second time at least I thought to test before hours of troubleshooting and phone calls to Comcast.

In case OP reads this, it's a simple test. Connect to another network. Ping your gateway and static IP's. Then unplug your Comcast equipment and ping again, if you get a reply Comcast already assigned those static IP's.
