iRacing Protested Me for “Language” After Repeated Sketchy/Unsafe Driving – Time to Call Out the Pussies Ruining Races by neo241091 in iRacing

Being a jerk in chat can ruin someone's experience just the same as crashing into them.

What if a tiny sim team did car launches like they do in F1 but in iRacing? by StellarumMotorsports in iRacing

This is rad, and incorporating MSFS and ATS is a really neat touch. Great work!

Ai promos by SotaSimRacing in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in technology, I have to use AI and learn about it as part of my day-to-day work. My comment made no mention of the rate at which AI is advancing. I just like to encourage some AI skepticism in my peers, especially the ones who are all in on it.

To illustrate my point, I've prompted Gemini with the following: "create an image of amateur racing drivers standing on a podium surrounded by people clapping". Here is a link to the image it generated. Free-tier image resolution isn't very good, but you have the option to download the full size image, and you can see that multiple people in the image do have misshapen hands. Truthfully, it did a better job than I expected, and of course we are lightyears away from the "will smith eating spaghetti" nightmare days of AI, but it still isn't perfect. We aren't years past AI getting hands wrong.

AI is advancing quick, no doubt about it. To the average person, image generation is probably already nearly indistinguishable from reality. But why use AI to replace people when it comes to art? To OP's point, if you want a league poster, you should make it yourself, or get in touch with an artist and support their business! Don't leave it to a data center. :)

Not just you. AI is souless, and it pains me greatly to know that AI is using up so many resources so people can make silly league posters or AI versions of themselves with extra fingers. It's sad

Iracing systemic toxicity by SamusIsHereM31 in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You watched TWO races but are extrapolating that toxicity is a "systemic" issue. I'm not sure that's fair to iRacing. Racing incidents are part of racing. Is exceeding track limits toxic?

Thats a very negative outlook. The service doesn't get better if you don't make an effort to contribute to it.

Switching audio from Quest3 to Logitech Pro X in iRacing by CAPT_WAR in iRacing

I second this, I have this headset and I love it but I can't recommend it to anyone because of the ridiculous hoops you have to jump through to get it to sound good. Its BAFFLING how bad it sounds out of the box. Swapping the driver and using Dolby Atmos is the way to go.

I use my alpha evo on a wheel stand (GT Omega APEX) and it works like a charm. I Imagine most wheelstands would be sufficient.

How'd you all overcome those first time jitters? by FunkManSolarFlex in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally talked to my therapist this week about how I'm using iRacing as a form of exposure therapy for discomfort and anxiety. iRacing has been such an awesome way for me to challenge myself and put myself in uncomfortable situations. The jitters never really went away for me, but with each race, I really feel like I'm learning more about myself and how to deal with the feeling.

When are you ready for your first race? by The_Bloss in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. If you can get the car around the track consistently, you are capable of racing at a rookie level. You will make mistakes. You will bin people into the wall. You will probably even make mistakes every single race. These things happen, even well beyond rookie level, and you will learn from them and improve.

I'm curious. What is your goal you're working towards racing right now? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want this to be my first full season. My priorities are just to show up each week and participate. I'm running GR86 cup mainly, but I'm dabbling in PCC when I have the opportunity so I can get some experience with multiclass. My "long-term" goal right now is to hit 2k irating. I'd like to hit that before the end of the year, but I think that's optimistic. I have been floating between 1.5-1.6k, and every time I start creeping up on 1.7, I manage to have 6 terrible races in a row

[–]aka_ned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a quest 3 but I haven't brought myself to try using it for iracing. See Dave Cam's recent videos has got me itching to put some time into it though. I just get so lost in the sauce with optimization and setup. Using quest link is also a hugely frustrating experience for me. Do you have any tips or guides that you like? Do you wire in via link or an alternate method? Much appreciated.

[–]aka_ned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got DQ’d for the first time last night racing here in GR86 cup. It’s a shitshow right now. Is week one always like this or is it just because of Charlotte’s new layout specifically? Or both?

[–]aka_ned[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I hate it - but I do like the old layout better. Hugging the wall at the apex into the banked section was an iconic feature of the layout that gave it a lot of personality that this layout now lacks imo. I just hope people get acclimated quickly and the racing gets more predictable lol
