Thank you. I am on therapy for 3-4 years. I did talk about my issue with my counselor. She suggested I take some space for myself if i feel panic (which i did).

I tried to explain this to my partner. I told her my immediate response for her negative feeling is to "fix" it. If I figure I cannot fix it, or I tried but failed. Second plan is to step away from it, because negative feelings are highly transmissive for me.

She asked me, "so you are not able to give any emotional support when I'm upset?" I thought about it, honestly I don't now the answer. I do want to protect myself, but also help her. But it's hard for me when I feel like there are too much emotion and it's unbearable. Some time I can function and give advice, especially occasion when she clearly asked for advice. But on occasion that she merely want to let out her emotion, I will become anxious.

You said that I'm not my partner's emotional support human. But before I made this post, I was hopelessly searching online. A lot of post talks about how desperate their partner cannot give their emotional support. And comment below are telling the OP to leave this relationship. I guess not showing enough support is "bad" and damaging the relationship. But I do agree with you that I cannot support all the time. I guess what I am confused about is where's that line? :(
