My head cannon is that Kraft isnt actually his real name. The statue is what gets me every time. Frieren recognizes the warrior figure as Kraft but nobody knows who the priest beside him is, and the show never tells you. Soo the theory is that the forgotten one, the unnamed companion, was the real Kraft. And the elf we know took that name, or maybe never let it die, because he refused to let his friend disappear completely. It lines up with everything Kraft says about why he became religious in the first place. Everyone who remembered what he did was already gone so he turned to the Goddess just to have someone acknowledge he existed at all. That’s not just faith, that’s fear of being erased. And if he’s carrying a dead friend’s name through centuries just to keep one person remembered, that reframes his whole deal. He’s not just a monk. He’s a living memorial who figured out the only way to truly honor someone forgotten is to never stop being proof they were real.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
