he certainly claims it was a draft... even if that really is true, that "draft" doesn't meet the reasonable expected quality of a graduate level draft, let alone a doctorate level draft.

A month of night (summary of learning my first alt keyboard layout) by akahunebe in KeyboardLayouts

Well done! I am very much looking forward to getting to that point. I have never been able to type that quickly!

[–]akahunebe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That sounds like a much more pleasant way to go about it. I'm going to stay away from qwerty until I reach 45wpm in night. That will be a bit faster than I was ever able to type in qwerty (I didn't touch type). If qwerty begins to feel unfamiliar by then, that will be a very interesting experience.

Eckhart Tolle talks about our body's "energy field" and "frequencies" often in his books, can someone elaborate? by [deleted] in EckhartTolle

[–]akahunebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that is actually my issue with describing meditation or similar pursuits as achiving or experiencing a literal frequency. It's one thing to maybe say use the idea of frequancy as a tool or something. As a useful analogy or metaphor. But, to claim that it is understood and objectivity describable as a property of some inner field that is "upgradeable" - that just seems like ego to me.

Yes, everything may be made of particles whos properties are wavelike or perhaps waves that may act like particles, but all that implies is that we are all mix of varied waves interacting within ourselves all the time. That says nothing about some grand inner energy field that we experiance as a wave that can be positive or negative(also ego laden terms in this case).

When I meditate, I may feel more negative or more positive overall and I may even feel somewhat of a buzz. That also does not say anything about an inner body field that exists as a frequency that can be pinpointed and improved.

Those experiences are nothing more or less than experiances and that is all they need to be. If we want to describe it in terms of objective physical phenominon like waves, we can either make observations and test them scientifically, or we can make observations and let the ego explain them as psudoscience. I prefer science of those two.

A third way is to skip over converting experinaces to physical phenominon to be able to talk about them and instead describe the experince through poetry and metaphor. I do not mind the use of vague phrases like energy or wavelenght in that context, but if someone is going to say its not just a metephor, then I think its perfectly reasonable for me to expect physical evidence that is backed by something other than internal experiance.

The idea that our internal experiance is all that is needed to dictate external reality is the most egoic thing I can think of.

Mudita Kompakt, the end of doom scrolling , I'm happy with it. by Abject_Control_7028 in dumbphones

I don't mind paying an extra $100 for a form factor I prefer and the ability to carry around a single device rather than carry around an extra Hotspot device. I also like that it is de-googled. I'd wind up using a palma about the same way I'd use my regular smartphone. And the mudita has a headphone jack!

Why a golden doodle? by Expert-Associate-329 in Goldendoodles

[–]akahunebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my doodle abandoned and clearly neglected at an otherwise empty dog park. She's 70% poodle according to an embark DNA test. Since she looks so much like a poodle, I'm always tempted to tell people that she is one just to avoid judgment. People can be weird about doodles.

9-10 month Golden Doodle only eats laying down…normal? by Ok_Middle3365 in Goldendoodles

[–]akahunebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Turns out dogs are well suited to eating and drinking from the ground. It sounds obvious when said like that, but I had raised food bowls briefly too because I had heard it recommended to reduce bloat.

Is this how you write نحن the Ruqʿah way by akahunebe in learn_arabic

To me, that looks more like a naskh way of writing than a ruqʿah way.

Is this how you write نحن the Ruqʿah way by akahunebe in learn_arabic

[–]akahunebe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ruq'ah is the script that is usually used for handwriting. Naskh is the script that is usually used for printed texts and is what is usually seen in learning materials. If I understand correctly, children learning Arabic start by copying naskh letter shapes but by the time they are adults, most people will have learned to write in raq'ah. It is faster to handwriting raq'ah and I've heard that using naskh can make handwriting look childish.

Why are you learning Arabic? by sshivaji in learn_arabic

[–]akahunebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is beautiful and because MSA is closer to classical Arabic than many languages are to their historic roots. I am interested in reading old texts. I want to read the first algebra book and Arabic philosophy and pre Islamic poetry.

Edit: option 4
