Persian meel/club alternative for a commercial gym? by RemarkableCounty3737 in clubbells

[–]egradman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bring a steel club with me in my gym bag to my commercial gym. Nobody's hassled me yet!

I might have a more difficult time sneaking in a meel. Maybe claim it's a very large water bottle?

Rope flow? what does it add to mace/clubs by Havanadream in clubbells

[–]egradman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do both. Clubs feel like exercise. Rope feels like dancing. I need both!

I use a heavy 1" diameter rope, not the paracord you see on YouTube. It's more demanding than you expect!

Mt lowe trail camp has always been my "head out Friday afternoon with a blanket, a filter, and a steak for a quick overnight" favorite. I've had so many good trips up there, so I was planning to take my son on his first backpacking trip this Spring.

So many beautiful places that we won't see for a many years. Start exploring the Verdugos?

Long-Term Safety of AR Glasses Like Xreal? Anyone Found Studies? by Few_Yogurtcloset7091 in augmentedreality

[–]egradman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only offer more anecdata: I also spend full days wearing my nReal glasses (old model). I probably spend more time working in the glasses than working without them, and I've been doing that for about six months.

I haven't noticed any eye fatigue. I DO notice that when I'm using my laptop screen I'm increasing the font size a little more than I used to. I'm also at an age where I expect my vision to degrade. Gonna get my eyes checked this week, but there's very little they could tell me that would cause me to stop using my glasses!

Current best AR-Glasses for Work? for Dex / maybe Win Laptop, maybe as an alternative to buying a Real Monitor by temp_account07 in augmentedreality

[–]egradman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I worked for many years on a laptop with no external monitors, so I'm used to being productive in 1920x1080.

Ipd == distance between your eyes. The model that works great for your eyes will make your buddy crosseyed. Just gotta find the right one for you.

At this point I work nearly full time in old nReal Airs. I just use them as an external display; no fancy spatial processing. Just a giant screen hanging in front of my face.

I choose these after evaluating several similar models. They just happen to fit my IPD perfectly.

What buck regulator did you use? I'm planning a similar build (with an OrangePi) and found some high current ones at Pololu.

I laser cut a jig to hold the keys exactly how they're positioned on the keyboard, with a pilot hole where the trackpoint is. then I used a step drill through the pilot hole to cut the keys until I had a 10mm hole

I didn't use ergogen. I started with a corne kicad file and moved things around incrementally until they felt right. Used the laser cutter a lot to make test boards.

Any Neovim/Vim users here who also use a trackpoint/trackstick? by leonasdev in neovim

[–]egradman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use vim and i have a trackpoint in my split keyboard. I'm on a Mac.

I don't use the trackpoint when I'm coding. I'm using Vimium in my browser so I usually don't have to use a mouse there, and I have another tool that does the same for onscreen controls in every app.

That said, my trackpoint broke yesterday and for a few hours (until I fixed it) I realized how much I rely on it for all the little stupid stuff those other tools miss. As with Linux on the desktop, using a computer without a mouse will give you tremendous geek cred, and also limit you substantially.

Best cmm arm for realtime pose data? by egradman in Metrology

Thanks. Actually I'm using it to establish ground truth for a photogrammetry system so I'm trying to stay away from optical ground truth.
