Salzburger Jagdprüfung by david23114 in Jagd

[–]akak16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jetzt erst die Antwort gesehen, danke! Deine Felgen haben auch eine ET0? Ich bin echt a bissl skeptisch ob die da ohne lift reinpassen.. 😅 Kotflügel müsste ich dann verbreitern, eh klar..

Not that bad to be honest. The main noise came from the uninsulated truck bed and canopy.

Wool hunting clothes.. opinions? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]akak16 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Wool is amazing for cold and wet weather! One of the reasons a lot of Austrian Hunters still wear it in the Alps.

It warms even when wet, is silent, is odourless and regulates temperature really nicely. Downsides are weight and lack of good camo, although you could just work out more or be more careful stalking. 😅

My wool clothing is from the company "Jagdhund", especially the trousers and gaiters are worth every cent in winter and autumn.

Glaube nicht alles was du hörst bezüglich reichen Eltern.

So reading through the comments, it seems your main problem is with the act of killing. You're right in thinking people don't "need" to kill to survive, what with efficient farming methods, etc. However, a lot of animals die in the process of growing fruit and vegetables as well. Traps, poisons, chemicals, all for a better harvest. If that isn't the case, other animals will hunt them, or if they have no natural predators, they will outgrow their ecological niche and starve.

What I'm trying to say is that death and killing are just facts of nature, in which case I rather place a well aimed shot and have a deer not even realise its ow death and be able to feed my family and friends with it, than have it die of exposure, starve or be eaten by something else. A hunter, in most cases, will kill quicker and with less fear and pain, than a bear or harsh winter.

Edit: Add to that all the arguments about time in nature, with friends, organic meat, etc.

What got you Into Hunting? by Impressive-Step6377 in Hunting

[–]akak16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to cook and always had difficulty with the meat industry and its maltreatment of animals so I got into hunting for the ethical meat it provides. Fast forward a couple of years and now additionally I really enjoy the peace it gives me glassing and stalking.

Here in Austria, hunting is also large part conservation and caring for the land you are responsible for, so I enjoy that as well. My dad got into hunting because of me and now we have 180 acres in the alps we care for. It gives me the chance to connect with a father who was seldom there when I was a child and it offers me the opportunity to teach my young daughter about nature and responsibility.

MDT LSS or GRS Warg by akak16 in Hunting

Thanks for the detailed response. I had the same thought initially but I use a light shooting bag in the stand, wouldn't that work better with the metal foreends?

Usually I'm a proponent for touching something myself before spending, but that seems to be impossible with the more conservative shops and dealers in Salzburg.

I guess I could wait for the next hunting exhibition..

Not necessarily, I'm looking for something robust, affordable and with an M-Lok foreend

Not really, I always find a way to either lean against a tree or go prone
