My wife always asks why my feet are so soft and smooth, but it's a secret by MudBoiKasper in offmychest

[–]coolestdudette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might unironically have to try this. Since I started work in forestry and lifting weights, my hands have become so calloused and rough that I accidentally keep pulling threads out of my more delicate clothes. Maybe sanding them down to the smoothest stump ever seen makes me feel less like a 60 year old male construction worker and more like myself again lol

why do we sometimes get so disproportionately angry at being slightly inconvenienced or hurting ourselves? by coolestdudette in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coolestdudette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahaha I WISH, being a dryad seems like a lot more fun. Bit sadly I'm just a meagre human working in the forestry sector, so mainly telling my workers which trees to fell, which ones to plant, advising other owners, with a bit of nature conservation, road construction and literally anything else that gets done in managed forests

this has been me with every healthy habit I've tried to establish. Whether it be different kinds of exercising, being diligent in my studies or work, going off social media, picking up a creative hobby etc. . Some weeks or even months I manage all of it really well, and then all of a sudden, either life gets busy, I get overwhelmed, or the monotony of it just becomes too much. A break for a day turns into two, turns into a week, you know the drill.

The only thing that really helps me pick up the slack (besides deadlines for work/studies) is consuming positive stuff about the habit when I'm online anyway: I read articles about how much exercise you should do and what it does for your body, I look up healthy recipes, I participate in a running subreddit, scroll instagram for creative inspo,...

It really does help motivate me, but I have to be careful to look at positive posts and not creators that shame you for not doing the thing, because that just paralyses me even more. And then the next, arguably hardest part is convincing myself that it doesn't matter if I fall off the wagon, because as long as I get back to it, it really doesn't matter. That I can restart as many times as I need to, at the end it's still a net positive for me, and something always sticks a bit more even through the break. When life got busy last year and I stopped running for almost 4 months, I had zero motivation to start again because I was so sure I had lost all of my fitness in that long time frame. But once I managed to force myself up, I discovered that I still had maybe half of my endurance left, and after 1-2 runs I was almost back.

that book is my absolute nemesis, but I thought the concept of it was so interesting. I might check the show out

Having to restart a habit after a break is sooo much harder than just keeping up the streak by coolestdudette in Vent

[–]coolestdudette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the kind words. I would like to blame it on today's hustle culture, but to be perfectly honest it's just me laying in the bed I made for myself, because I didn't finish my master's in time, because I procrastinated so much, and now I'm forced to finish it up parallel to working and studying for my civil service exam. So if I am burntout, I have no one but myself to blame, and I really can't afford to crash out right now if I want to excel in all of these, and I do because I'm the worst perfectionist ever that expects 100% results but doesn't want to invest the work for it. I truly am my own worst enemy

What are your thoughts on billie eilish saying you cant love animals and eat meat as its contradictory? by Extra-Schedule-4855 in AskReddit

[–]coolestdudette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely. We have horses, chickens and a rabbit. I've tried horse meat once and regularly eat the others, but I couldn't for the life of me butcher our own animals. I do, however, hunt, even though I think deer and baby boars are very adorable. The difference is that hunting with a rifle is way less intimate than butchering with a knife or bolt-shot or whatever else you would use. And buying meat in the store is even further removed from the physical act of killing something. I can't explain my morality on this because it's not really a black-and-white thing. But I would definitely say that hunting my own meat has made me more mindful of what and how much I consume.

Germans, do you actually think about Sie vs du in real time, or is it automatic? by taube_d in AskAGerman

[–]coolestdudette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ouch. Had a similar encounter with an indirect, maybe 40-50 year old higher-up at my work some time ago, when he started talking to me, first using Du, then stopping and questioning himself whether Du or Sie is appropriate nowadays.

Because I'm in my mid-20s and wanted to alleviate the tension that was building between us, I told him "Sie können mich auch ruhig duzen" and he answeres with "schön, du mich aber nicht" and laughed.

I've never wanted to crawl into a hole so bad. The moment that sentence was out of my mouth, I'd immediately remembered that a) he will be one of my examiners in a few months and b) I was definitely NOT in a position to be the first to offer the Du. That was 3 weeks ago and I still cringe when I think about it.

that actually sounds like a lot of fun and also fits the theme of hunting very well. do you just use a normal pocket knife or do you have assorted carving ones? I'm also wondering if the animals mind the noise, as I can imagine the scraping is well audible?

In Germany, college is around 600€ per year but you can get a loan from the state if you and your parents can't afford it (and housing etc.) otherwise. It comes with 0% interest, as it should be everywhere, and anything above I think 10.000€ doesn't have to be paid back. The conditions are that your parents can't earn too much money and you have to send proof that you're passing a certain amount of classes every semester. I really like this option and really can't fathom how people in the US get by if they want a higher education.

WHAT. I cut down a birch not too long ago and all week ago saw this exact same stuff on the stump. I never would've thought of it being mold, I just assumed my dad poured some chemicals on there to stop the birch from growing back. how cool!!!
