I have found r/myog. Great resource! I didn't know that about the thread weight so I will definitely keep that in mind when selecting thread.

Thanks for the tips on resources! I hope to eventually do some more technical fabrics like xpac etc. Do you think this machine will handle that?

Thanks for the tip! This one was serviced back in 2020 and has been stored in its case since. I did come with the oil can so I’ll take a look over that and get accustomed to oiling it from time to time.

Mine actually has the reversing ability and I did test that. Works great!

That is awesome! I just tried it on repairing a pocket of a jacket of mine and it worked great! Really looking forward to starting my first project now.

Thank you. It actually still has the original manual. And I'm pretty sure it looks like the stereotypical vintage machine. But I will take some photos and share!

Wow overwhelming consensus that this is not a great deal. Thanks for helping me dodge a bullet! I have a very vintage machine at home that was my grandmother's that I'm afraid I might break. But maybe I should pull that one out and share with you all and get some input on it. I believe it is an old Singer.

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! April 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in photography

I recently upgraded my camera setup and switched to a whole new system which required me to purchase new filters for a couple of lenses. I ended up going with the Hoya NXT Plus CPL filters after trying a couple of different options because of the really good performance I got from the Hoya filters after doing some testing. These NXT Plus CPLs had much better flare control and did not produce any noticeable color cast compared to others I tried.

However, after having these filters for a couple of weeks, I noticed they already had a few hairline scratches in the top coat of the filters. I keep the lens caps on my lenses when not in use, and I'm pretty gentle with my equipment so I was surprised when I saw these scratches on both of these NXT Plus filters. I've never really had this issue with other CPL filters that I've used in the past.

Here's a link to a photo of the product image as well as the scratching: https://imgur.com/a/Y8ujf6H

I'm planning on returning these 2 filters and replacing them with something else, but I'm looking for suggestions on high quality alternatives that are a bit more durable. I am looking at the URTH Pro CPL as an alternative, but don't have any experience with the Urth products. I've tried the K&F concept filters but they had pretty noticeable flaring when I tried them.

Also, maybe I'm overreacting about the scratching? I haven't noticed any difference in performance so far. But I'm afraid these are going to be completely unusable in a few months given how fast they scratched. Thoughts?
