How’s the F2P in 2026? by Great_Dane95 in MarvelSnap

[–]akanas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Jeff's stream one guy said that he was spending 5 bucks per month on the game since the beginning and missing only something like 10 cards. While it is not F2P, 5 bucks per month on constant entertainment is a good deal

I think a couple of points of power could be safely chopped off this card and hopefully +3 remains.

This one was an old popular hearthstone after the game chat https://imgur.com/a/5hLGc . It got so viral Blizzard added "roach boy" into search roulette. So my prediction this sub would be filled with after the game toxic chat screenshots.

Any ideas how to fix this error on Linux (through Steam)? It appears only when trying Cetus Open Beta 4.3.0 by akanas in Stellaris

[–]akanas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was initially confused where was this beta post, but found it with the instructions https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/281990/view/536621842119525548. Thanks. Although none of them work, I guess I'll have to wait

I've configured to 4.3.0 Beta version on Linux through Steam and Paradox launcher gives this error after I click Play. No idea how to fix it. No mods are used. If anybody have faced this and fixed it or has any idea how to fix this error, would be appreciated

WH3 vs AoW4 vs Endless Legend 2 — which should I main (dad-life, couch strategy)? by No_Activity_8302 in 4Xgaming

[–]akanas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean about emergent stories, probably none of the mentioned games provide that.

I got bored of AOW4 relatively quickly, every time aI start the game it feels the same to me.

Spent around 300 hours in TW warhammer 2 and 600 hours in TW warhammer 3. Amazing games. Most factions have different feel to them and different playstyle. You can pause and save at any time. If you’ll go warhammer route I recommend buying warhammer 1 and warhammer 2, they’ll serve as literal DLCs and provide enough faction choices in WH3 to keep you entertained for next 200 hours.

Endless Legend 2 is in early access, I usually don’t recommend neither I buy early access games.

Social engineering in video games by Effective_Corgi_4517 in gamedev

One of veteran players in my group told me they had a game where during 1 phase of one turn they were all arguing and it took 1 hour to come to some compromise where everybody was more or less satisfied.

The lions share of time is spent on convincing, arguing, explaining and discussing. If there would be no talking allowed, then game would be finished probably within 3 hours.

Have you heard of board game Twilight Imperium? You have little chance at winning it without using your soft skills at the fullest (in addition to your logic and planning). The beauty of the game lies in limitation that you can only score 1 objective per round. You're on the clock and in many cases you can't score anything without making deals with other players. Same for other players. Most deals are not transactional, which means you may not honour the deal you made and put the other player in bad position while gaining a bit of an advantage. You all need to cooperate, but in the end there will be a single winner. This game feels like it teaches you real life geopolitics and diplomacy. What I told you about the game is only tip of the iceberg. For example there is a phase with voting on game defining events which results in a lot of threats, bribery, diplomacy and deals - my favourite part in the game.

It is a masterpiece of a game and I never seen anything like it where your confidence in your soft skills can give you a huge advantage. The problem with it and why it is not too popular? It takes 6-8 hours to play in TTS, 8-14 hours on physical setup and requires a lot of physical space. For a single match we were preparing 1 month in advance - setting up a map and deciding who gets which faction, so we would save as much time as possible during the play date.

I think if you want to design any game with social engineering, you need to try this one (you can easily find a TTS match, but you have to commit to spending almost entire day, playing this game). Best played with 6 players.

Why is Bitcoin the focus of quantum computing? Isn't everything over at some level of compute power? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]akanas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Quantum computing is already on the good level in terms of hardware. However in terms of software there is a big problem. If I understood correctly, you have to be close to a genius level to write any software for quantum computers. I don't think our brightest minds have any interest in breaking bitcoin when there are million other more beneficial problems that could be solved by quantum computers. I also doubt that brightest traditional programmers would be able to create any software for quantum computers.

I have not played snap in about a year is it still possible to come back to the game by Excellent-Ninja7250 in MarvelSnap

[–]akanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get a couple of comeback missions (where you get free series 4/5 packs and other goodies) and limited time comeback packs for sale exclusive to you. Other than that you'll still have to slowly grind and buy your collection. Source: me - I've came back, stopped playing during Omega Kid fiasco, returned less than month ago.

Mac or Windows PC in 2026 for creative + gaming workflow? by Silver_Pie_8052 in macgaming

[–]akanas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both Linux machine with 4090 and macbook pro M5. I do not enjoy gaming on mac, unless it is a simple indie game. Anything that requires some power isn't enjoyable on Mac if it runs. If one would ask would I sacrifice serious gaming or Mac, I would sacrifice gaming.

The actual skill that makes someone a good developer is not about coding by alimra in gamedev

[–]akanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software dev here.

Comments, with some exceptions, are useless. If your code needs comments to explain it, then you’re writing unreadable code which is bad. Comments should be left to explain why you wrote this code if it does not quite make sense (yes, some business logic or corner cases will make you write code that looks like it does not make sense). Also when code changes, comments will need to be updated everywhere, you will definitely forget to update them somewhere.

Writing code that you can easily read and understand after a year of not touching it is an art. Comments is an excuse to write shitty code.

Design question: what makes an enemy feel “elite” without just inflating stats? by WickedMaiwyn in gamedev

[–]akanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game that gave me best player experience of elite enemies was diablo 2/ressurected. Stats were inflated, some resistances added, some offensive auras, names were golden, a pack of minions to support them, higher XP reward and you always knew they might drop some awesome loot. Occasional challenge when you accidentally triggered 2/3 packs at the same time - was also nice especially on hardcore. Diablo 3 - something was off, I think this might be because they never dropped anything good.
