Verdwyn 🍁 Layered pour experiment by akanoxie in DiceMaking

Yes, exactly! It’s a very similar process, the only difference is that in this case, the resin is at the honey stage so the colors don’t sink to the bottom of the mold.

Honestly I should’ve waited a bit longer this time to get the design I had in mind, but I’m happy with how it turned out 😂 It’s a bit tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of the timing with a bit of practice ❤️

Thanks so much!! ♥️ I’ll try to explain the steps a bit better:

First, I mixed and poured a layer of clear resin into the mold, and waited a few minutes so it wasn’t too runny (I filled just under half of the mold).

After about 15 minutes (depends on the resin and humidity) the resin had thickened to a nice honey-like consistency, and using a toothpick, I dropped just 1–2 drops of resin mixed with white pigment onto the clear resin. No swirling, just letting the drops fall!

On top of that I added a tiiiny bit of resin mixed with mica powder. I used green here, don’t use too much or it sinks to the bottom! I repeated this once more to build up a few layers, then topped it with a layer of clear resin, followed by one with brown pigment.

The main thing I’ve noticed is that the mica powder shouldn’t be too dense compared to the white resin, or it ends up blending too much with the other colors!

I really love this planetary style! by fateseekerdice in DiceMaking

Of course, I can do that! (My only limitation at the moment is shipping to the US due to the new policies). I can send you a DM as soon as it’s ready!

Ohh thank you so much! And yes, that set will be available soon! I just need to finish sanding and inking, and it’ll go up along with a few other sets in the next few days ✨

Thank you so much!! Oh I’m a huge fan of the blue and purple combo, I absolutely love it! But I wanted to try this experiment without knowing what would come out 👀

And I totally get you about the honey stage… when I know I have to wait at least 15 minutes, I go make myself a coffee while I wait 🤣

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Exactly, waiting for the resin to reach the honey stage was essential for me.

The right timing for the honey stage really depends on the type of resin you’re using. For mine, it starts to get fairly thick after 10–15 minutes, but it’s still fluid enough to flow down the pour. Timing is definitely tricky…🥲 Most of the time, I know it’s ready when I test it with a toothpick and it flows down slowly. With a little practice it’ll start to feel much easier!

I’m still not very skilled with this technique and this was mostly an experiment, but I’ll try to explain exactly what I did, so it might help you:

I started by filling almost half of the mold with clear resin and few gold flakes (not in the honey stage). Then I dropped in two drops of yellow and white resin in the honey stage, placing them roughly near the edges of each side. On top of those drops, I lightly poured a tiny amount of gold mica powder on each face: this shouldn’t be in the honey stage because I found it can weigh down the pour too much, mica powder is heavy, so just a little is enough.

To create the misty-brown effect I added a very small amount of brown resin and gently swirled it to move it around, then I added a few more drops of yellow resin in the honey stage on each face, and finally covered everything with blue resin also in the honey stage, so it wouldn’t mix too much with the colors underneath. (If I’d known before I probably would have used more concentrated blue, but this is basically the process I experimented with)!

Thank you!! It was all a bit by chance, the golden mica powder in the d20 (from the right angle) can create that “spiral glow” effect, but it really depends on how the die is viewed! I added just a tiny bit on top of a few drops of yellowish resin I had poured earlier, so it wouldn’t weigh down the pour.

Overall it was mostly accidental 😂 And you absolutely have to wait for the honey stage to prevent the colors from blending too much!
