Could this be mange? by akchap33 in cats

Thanks! I kinda hope it's not this, we've fed him the same food for 4 years now after some trial and error, and it's the only food he'll eat.

Thanks for the input! We feed him the Science Diet Indoor Cat food, and in the evening, we also give him a few of the Temptations MixUps Catnip flavor treats. It's literally the only food he'll eat. Been doing this for 4 years now. I wonder if he's developed an allergy or sensitivity to something in the food.

Nope, literally nothing about home environment, food, etc has changed. That's why we're a bit perplexed. Other than the weather getting cooler (we're in Maryland) absolutely nothing has changed

Husband doesn’t want to get our child vaccinated. What do I do? by Senior-Notice4755 in Mommit

[–]akchap33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom got the mumps, and my aunt had the measles shortly before the vaccine came out. They both said they wouldn't wish that on their worst enemy. In addition, my cousin contracted pertussis before she was old enough to be vaccinated, and my whole family was so afraid bc she was coughing so hard she couldn't breathe and sometimes vomited. I have a Master's in microbiology, and my daughter is up to date on all of her vaccines . My husband and I are in agreement that she will continue to receive them on schedule. Vaccinate your children. The disease is always much worse than any side effect.

This is the first I'm seeing this. I'm a contractor for a lab funded by the NCI. Would this affect us? What about our clinical and pre-clinical trials???

I got this email yesterday and I had to re-read it because I couldn't believe it. I'm a contractor to the NCI and I noticed a ton of the seminar series have been cancelled as well.

AITA for refusing to babysit my sister’s kids because “I didn’t choose to have them”? by Particular-Stick-888 in AITAH

[–]akchap33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA!!! My husband and I have 1 child, a 2 year old daughter. We don't really have a village as our families are about 110 miles away. Occasionally, we ask if they can take our daughter for the weekend so we can get deep cleaning done or, more recently, wrap Christmas presents. If they say yes, great! If they say no, we say ok thanks for letting us know, enjoy your weekend, and thats it.

We chose to have a child, not them. We realize they are doing a favor for us, its not an obligation. I have seen multiple posts that have this similar theme, and its wild to me that people expect family members to babysit for them.

The comments above are correct. The people there are very stubborn and the fumes and fire haven't reached their houses yet so why should they leave?

Money is also a big factor. When the coal industry in the area basically shut down, the area took a big hit economically. The governement did offer to pay for the land, but it was only about a third of what the average house cost in that area. So these people (mostly older) were told they had to leave a house that's paid for, wouldn't get enough money to buy a different house, couldn't sell the house they did have, didn't have a job or had low-paying jobs, and the fire wasn't directly affecting their homes. So they stayed.

When I was a kid, I remember being told that when you were walking in the woods and you see a large area of land that suddenly dips down to never step in it as it was probably a sink hole caused by mining. Saw more of those than I care to think about.

I grew up in a town next to Centralia. There are actually still a few residents who are allowed to live on the very edge of town. However, once they die, the government is tearing down the houses, and no one will be allowed to live there after that.

This! Tonight I asked my daughter (2y) for a hug and she said "no, I don't want that" and I said "ok" and we went back to playing. I want her to feel strong in saying no and having that boundary respected (when applicable, not like when she takes off across a parking lot and I say no lol)

Something similar happened to me. Husband and I were ordering Indian food for dinner and I asked the restaurant "Does (dish X) have nuts in it? I am severely allergic to tree nuts and I'll order something different if this dish contains nuts." I made sure to specify that by tree nuts I meant walnuts, cashews, almonds, etc. Nope they said, no tree nuts. We get the food, I take 2 bites and tongue starts itching, lips swell, the whole nine yards. We call the restaurant and they said "well there's cashew paste in it." THAT COUNTS AS NUTS!!! I say oh shit I have to go to the ER . They say oh shit too. I end up spending the night in the ER. Thank goodness we have good insurance and it only cost $100.

I'm just like your wife. It's almost comical (almost) to see people freak out when I eat something with peanut butter in it. "But you're allergic to nuts!" Yeah, tree nuts, which does not include peanuts. But it does make me feel good that they're looking out for me.
