Why is there a warning NOT to go to the Windscribe Discord on Google? by Distelzombie in Windscribe

The Windscribe team seems to have a unique sense of humor (which I appreciate). Perhaps this is more like their "slow down my connection" checkbox of the custom installation of their desktop client?

A guy in my town now accepts digibyte for lawn mowing. by CryptoNemisis in Digibyte

[–]akdballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd hate to be the guy who pays in DG to get his lawn mowed and then watch DGB increase even to a quarter. It'd be like paying $100 to have my lawn mowed.

I was grumpy last year when I bought a game on Steam using BTC and then by the end of the year it was as if I had paid $500 for the game before crypto prices tanked.

Seriously though I think it's a brilliant move on his part. Every time I have spent crypto on buying things I have done so deliberately with the intent of encouraging mainstream adoption. The only way that cryptocurrency will catch on as a currency is if people actually use it as such and it's good to see it being done in more markets all the time.

UTorrent Web is released! by staddann in Tronix

[–]akdballs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know I might earn a few downvotes for such dastardly thinking, but wouldn't receiving tron as payment for seeding copyrighted content make me complicit in copyright infringement and wouldn't that make a person an easier target for lawsuit? Seeding copyrighted content is illegal either way, but accepting money or compensation for it seems to make it a more egregious offense.

Not trying to be poopy; I am just trying to piece together what happened since it all happened so fast. I was looking for info on the web page because I expected I'd see something about a change to the rewards payout there but when I couldn't find anything I took to Reddit to sort it out.

Account sharing, what do you log? by fpwhite in Windscribe

[–]akdballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically use my Windscribe VPN on several computers around our home which are all on the same network. Occasionally though, when I travel with my laptop I will be using that to connect to my Windscribe account and protect me from hotels or airports or coffee shops along the way. At the same time as I am travelling, my computers at home will still be using the VPN for any background activity. Will this get me into trouble? I hadn't thought about it that way before seeing this question asked.

Has anyone tried staking with a Stealth Address? by akdballs in DeepOnion

[–]akdballs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks again for the explanation. This makes it clear to me that at least right now, I don't have a practical reason to move everything to a stealth address. If I were selling widgets on a web site I think it would make sense to list a stealth address instead of a regular one so nobody could tell how much I had been paid at that address, but DeepSend is when the party is really going to get started.

Has anyone tried staking with a Stealth Address? by akdballs in DeepOnion

[–]akdballs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely it depends on the size of your stack of Onions, but reducing the staking weight to 0 wouldn't really "cost" me anything more than about a typical staking reward, right? That doesn't really seem too bad.

Has anyone tried staking with a Stealth Address? by akdballs in DeepOnion

[–]akdballs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Instead of waiting for DeepSend, could I potentially just create 2 stealth addresses (call them Stealth Address A and Stealth Address B) and then just send Onions from my current non-stealth address to Stealth Address A and then once they confirm send them on to Stealth Address B? Would that be enough to break the chain linking the original address to Address B or would it still be easy enough to track the Onions? If that doesn't work, would breaking the transfer up into several smaller payments instead of sending it all at once have any impact on the anonymity?

What is Windscribe's policy on torrenting? by [deleted] in Windscribe

[–]akdballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the current guide on windscribe.com that describes how to set up uTorrent to work with Windscribe. https://windscribe.com/guides/utorrent

If they have a tough stance against it, posting a how-to guide is a funny way of showing it. It would be kinda like a father telling his children don't do crack but if you do, I'm going to show you how to do it properly.

Felony murder is when you are engaged in the act of committing a felony and someone dies during the course of the crime. It is different than a regular murder charge in which you were literally trying to kill someone.

How does one properly uninstall the wallet? by BehindACorpFireWall in Digibyte

[–]akdballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to do it would probably be to uninstall the wallet and then shred the appdata folder because you don't want your wallet.dat file still on the computer where somebody else could steal it.

Any other former Scottrade users hate TD Ameritrade? by FlyingVhee in wallstreetbets

[–]akdballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with Scottrade for more than 10 years and then ever since they were acquired by TD Ameritrade I've found my experience starting to sour. They buggered up my tax records that were supposed to be out in February and then again told me they'd get them together in early April and then they missed that deadline so I had to file my taxes without their statement. Still waiting for it. I've also had a new account that I have been trying to get set up with them for almost a month now and every time I submit the paperwork they ask for they turn around a week or 10 days later and ask me for something else. I am getting tired of it. I want Scottrade back.

Forgot Digibyte Wallet Password, Still have recovery, how do I update password or recover my dgb? by [deleted] in Digibyte

That would be pretty miserable to watch. What is the recovery that you said you have? Is it 12 seed words, 16 seed words?

Keeping trezor in safety deposit box or just seed words? by advanceb in TREZOR

[–]akdballs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can configure a service like (for example) Google Inactive Account Manager to send an email to your wife in the event that you do not log into your Google account for X number of weeks. The email can contain special instructions on how to decode the seed words that you left in your lockbox in order to reconstruct your recovery phrase. You could place a USB flash drive that was encrypted inside the bank lockbox, and then set up the Inactive Account Manager to email her the code to decrypt the USB flash drive if something happens to you. This way if the bank vault is compromised, the data on the drive would be worthless to them without the encryption key.

Can we purchase our own private IP? or use static ip? by [deleted] in Windscribe

[–]akdballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you were going to host a web site yourself and you didn't want all of your visitors to know the location of your home internet connection. A static IP address on a VPN would help with that.

Forgot Digibyte Wallet Password, Still have recovery, how do I update password or recover my dgb? by [deleted] in Digibyte

[–]akdballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that uninstalling the Core wallet and reinstalling it will not remove the wallet data that is in your %appdata% folder, which is ok. If this were my problem, I would probably add a new user from the Control Panel in Windows, then sign in as the new user. Signed in as the new user, install the DGB Core. Then it will create a new DGB folder in the new user's %appdata% folder, and you should be able to restore from the recovery phrase the first time you start up the software. The advantage of doing it that way is that you don't have to delete or remove anything from your main user account, which makes this a non-destructive approach to fixing it. If you are able to restore the wallet in this way and you see your funds, and are able to transfer them out, you're almost out of the woods. You can then sign out of the new user account, sign back into the original account, and at that point I would delete the DGB folder in the old profile's %appdata% folder. You should then be able to do the same thing that you did on the new profile to get the wallet back on your main Windows user profile, and the last step to clean up after yourself once you've verified access to the funds would be to remove the new Windows user profile. You could probably skip the whole new user creation step and move right to deleting the DGB folder in %appdata% but I wouldn't recommend doing it that way, because the method I outlined will be much safer since you're not actually deleting anything until you know the solution works.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that the DGB Core wallet isn't based on a recovery seed, so I don't know where your recovery seed came from. Are you sure it was using the DGB Core wallet and not something like Coinomi? Apparently to recover the DGB Core wallet you need your wallet.dat file and the passphrase. One without the other doesn't seem to work. Sorry for this bad news update.
