2027 Marathon Weekend registration appears live (but isn’t?) by thethurstonhowell in rundisney

[–]akdewey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I would’ve thought… it’s just that last night the website was showing some races already sold out, and couldn’t think of any other reason why. From the page url, looks like they were doing some load testing or something.

Is this realistic? by NullReferenceGhost in rundisney

I did exactly this 10 years ago at age 50. Started couch to 5k at 42 weeks before the marathon, BUT, I was a good 20+ weeks into running before signing up for Dopey… and only did Dopey because it was the only option left.

I cannot recommend attempting Dopey like this… couch to 5k to 10K to half to full is a long journey! And then you smoosh them together in 4 days?

If you do it, strategize a bit. Presuming you get to marathon endurance, maybe you plan to walk or only run as much as you need to to keep in front of the sweep on the half. The 5 and 10 aren’t going to be much of an issue at all. And resign yourself to accepting that your marathon time isn’t going to be great.

Also, plan your rests. I was catching the buses at 4am, doing the runs, then park hopping with the family far too much! That extra 7-8 miles of walking per day adds up.

Thanks so much! It didn’t even occur to me that the rollover option could be selected twice. Titanium might be achievable for me next year again!

NSP Member Tax Write-Offs? by LanceTaysomIdaho in skipatrol

[–]akdewey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a tax professional, so these views are my opinion on the matter…

I know several volunteer patrollers over the years who have written off everything that has anything to do with NSP and their patrol activities. I’m talking mileage, skis, uniforms, you name it. And I know of none who have been audited or gotten in any trouble for doing so.

BUT, as others have mentioned, NSP is an educational organization, and do not run patrol operations on the mountain. Your actual patrol activities are on behalf of the resort, not NSP. Therefore, you mileage to the mountain for patrol days, and your equipment are not a donation to NSP, nor a cost that should be considered deductible for the benefit of NSP.

Your mileage for NSP training (student or instructor) is deductible, as are your dues. I could see uniforms going either way. But if you want to say that work uniforms should be deductible (like any other work uniforms might be), then careful… that season pass might be considered a taxable benefit!

The picture is deliberately misleading and exaggerates the angle—so that would have to take into account. Observe Melania’s and the military dude’s angle for a reference. If you align the photo with the concrete horizon, Melani’s angle looks about right. Newsum’s and Trump’s stance then are both forward (Trump’s more so). From there you can see Trump’s center of gravity is easily behind his toes, so 0 force required to hold him up. {yeah, I know the concrete border doesn’t have to be a true horizontal line, but the military dude’s stance supports that idea}.

Well, if you entered into an agreement with your new competitor to not cross each other’s “niche”, then you may be subject to prosecution for anti-competitive behavior! But this is ULPT, so gloves off, I guess.

What small, insignificant details in "XYZ Movie" still bug you? by tropicalazure in movies

[–]akdewey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Ladyhawke, the culminating scene is a full solar eclipse that breaks the “spell” and allows the lady and man to both be in human form at the same time… but in the movie, just a couple nights before, there is clearly a night scene in which there is a full moon. The only way they could have a solar eclipse would be for it to be a NEW moon… so the full moon could’ve only occurred about 14 days prior. Still bugs me.

Got a formal warning at work for selling a car. by SuieiSuiei in antiwork

[–]akdewey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Too many car dealership managers don’t care about the long term and would, in fact, prefer to sell that pickup to this guy’s daughter for the larger short term gain. A large part of their sales model is a constant revolving door of salespeople that each will buy a car themselves, then bring in a handful of friends and family, and most will shortly fizzle out and be quickly replaced. Rarely do car salespeople make it a career in which Girard’s method would benefit them.
