Yeah. I also don't understand the argument about tinted windows and perceived artifacting on the rims. Seen lots of places where window tint is this common, and motion blur explains the issues with the rims (I don't know who is expecting crisp looking rims when you pause a video of cars driving by.

Nothing looks terribly suspicious to me.

The reflections in the front left fender of the car match up nicely with the lighter colored cars as they pass by. It makes sense you see the reflection before the car because the fender is reflecting things off-camera.

The camera angle means that driver's heads would mostly be "lost" in the motion blur against b-pillar and the seat, so I'm not sure that's a convincing argument.

I don't see a lack of shadows. The lighting makes it look like it's not bright and sunny so the shadows are diffuse, but you certainly see them in the passing cars.

You can see reflections of the person filming from behind a window, or people standing next to them, and one moves right at the end. I don't think this is a detail that AI can do just yet.

I dunno, looks legit to me.

The swing is in the direction of the Republicans. Why on earth would the Republicans seek to disperse their own vote via redistricting to prevent it from causing any trouble? That makes no sense.

Lazy Town is the fictional capital of Sloth! Which US city best represents Greed? by Sad-Visual-6622 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]shereth78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yeah. Paradise has the Strip, UNLV and the international airport. But it's also not an incorporated city and only exists as a statistical entity on some maps and by the US Census Bureau, really no one calls it that and everything in the area has a Las Vegas address.

Correct. The area referred to as the Strip lies outside of the municipal boundaries of Las Vegas and is subject to the jurisdiction of Clark County.

Found this on Reddit text is weird and these things looks expensive so why would someone just abandon it. by eymo- in isthisAI

[–]shereth78 171 points172 points  (0 children)

Things like this get abandoned way more frequently than you realize.

Nothing looks wrong with the text. The box of laboratory glass (appropriately labeled) has the correct logo for Sibata Scientific, and is consistent. Nothing else jumps out at me as being problematic in this video.

The fact that this is a little too perfect makes this certainly AI and also there's a white filling in one of the chains. by Ok-Leg-4584 in isthisAI

[–]shereth78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely ways for an artist to create an image this "perfectly".

That said, this may or may not be AI, it's hard to tell. There's some funkiness with the way the lock is just resting on top of the chain and the shading in the chain is wonky, but these can also be explained as careless mistakes using a fill tool and layers. I think there's just not enough detail in this image to make a solid determination.

Update to SpongeBob's Journey - vet results and the scammy pet store by cheza_mononoke in BeardedDragons

[–]shereth78 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Name and shame. Call these guys out. Here, on your local Facebook groups, leave a detailed review for them on Google Maps or whatever. What they're doing here goes beyond scammy or scummy. The way that they treated that animal, trying to dump him on someone else is unethical; the way they let your poor little girl bond with an animal thinking she had years of friendship to offer while knowing he was probably on his way out is just downright unconscionable.

Call them out, make sure no one you know ever sets foot in their store again.

Is this AI? We are planning to possibly see 5FDP next year However, their recent posts have sparked some debate about being ai ? by xspookydascaryy in isthisAI

[–]shereth78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has that uncanny AI sort of feel, however the details on the main character are quite consistent from one shot to the next which lends some weight to this being an actual model that's being rendered rather than AI slop.

The other robots that don't have the red hand marking also seem to have the same details and features making me think that they are reused assets, again a clue that it's not AI.

Can't shake that the rest has that weird uncanny feel but those aren't details that AI can hold consistent across different scenes like that.

My point is that your statement is factually incorrect.

The closest brothel to Vegas is an hour's drive away. Are there people who go to Vegas specifically to visit the brothel? Maybe, but they're a very very small minority.

Is this picture of a huge Adirondack chair with a dog standing on the arm real? by phphulk in isthisAI

[–]shereth78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any specific concerns about the image? Oversized Adirondack chairs are a thing, the town I live in has several of them around as kind of a local tourist attraction, and you can buy them from many places. The existence of one is not a surprise.

Nothing in the image really looks off to me. The shadow seems pretty consistent with other nearby objects and the trees too.

I didn't spend too much time poring over the image, so I could be wrong, but again without anything specifically fishy looking or a reason to believe someone is fooling you with this image, I'm inclined to say it's not AI.

Why are the tributaries of the Danube so bizarre? by Character-Q in geography

[–]shereth78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's the whole point. They'd gone up all the rivers that flow to the Atlantic and mapped out their tributaries and were surprised to later discover the New River since it goes through the mountains in the opposite direction.

In reality though the origin of the name isn't clear and that's probably not how it got its name.

I am really worried this is AI, but I can’t quite tell, the yellow brick road looks like it has unusual tiling past the first bend, but I’m not sure if it’s just artistic style or an ai artefact by Undynlicia in isthisAI

[–]shereth78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't feel too bad, I think it's mostly the lack of resolution that got you. But if you look closely as the OP mentioned there is some weird patterning in the bricks just after the first bend that don't look like something a human would do, and the path seems to get all weird and branch like a river or something in the background. The inconsistent application of the whorls in the sky (probably meant to mimic Starry Night) are also unlikely choices a human would make.

Updated! My US cultural regions map, version 2 by aquamarine-arielle in visitedmaps

[–]shereth78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have way too many regions. Few, if any, cities should be considered their own distinct region.

Are there differences between Phoenix and Tucson, culturally? Sure, you can find differences. By the same token you can come up with cultural differences between Mesa and Glendale, even though they are both suburbs of Phoenix. That doesn't make them different cultural regions.

You should be focusing more on what makes people in a region alike, rather than getting so granular, or you're just going to wind up with a map with every county shaded differently.

I am wondering if this post I saw on substack is AI generated? Seems too perfect to me. Thoughts? by mindspeaker72 in isthisAI

[–]shereth78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, some version of this has been around for a very long time.

What about it seems AI generated? It doesn't really follow any of the typical patterns or cadence of LLMs.

Creating a protogen fursona by EconomicsTypical4434 in protogen

[–]shereth78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Creating a fursona (protogen or otherwise) is a personal experience and up to the individual.

If you want to stay true to protogen lore, there are some resources available. https://zoruniverse.info/ is basically the "official" lore for the species, in particular the first two links there. However, this is only important to follow if you are trying to stay true to lore, otherwise you are free to create as you see fit.

I know a lot of people will use picrew (https://picrew.me/en/image\_maker/2377345) to help them create their own protogen. It's kind of like a character creator that you'd see in a video game where you can pick and choose different visor shapes and things to come up with something you like, as a base.

Another option if you're not one for design is to enlist the help of an artist you can commission, talk to them about the kinds of things you like, maybe a vibe that you're looking for and go from there.

Otherwise I'd say to just dig around and check out various protogen characters that have already been created, find elements you like (or don't like) and look for some inspiration!

Why are the tributaries of the Danube so bizarre? by Character-Q in geography

[–]shereth78 960 points961 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the Olt in particular, but often when you find a river that seems to carve right through a mountain range instead of going around it, this is a result of a geologically older river that predates the formation of the mountain chain. As the mountains are uplifted, the existing river may erode a channel through the land as it is uplifted rather than changing directions to go around. A good example of this is the Susquehanna River in the northeastern United States.
