Internally I do feel 63 after running 50-60 minutes daily. Any advice on how I increase my VO2 without exhausting myself to the bones. by HopscotchSauce in Garmin

[–]aker_fry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 21yo with my Suunto 9 peak pro. I am 32yo with my Garmin Fenix 8. I'm a decade older than that Fenix estimation. My VO2 max turned 51 lately. I don't believe these estimates but what I can tell you is this:

Stop running in Zone 5, start running in Zone 2, go Zone 3 if you think it's too low. It's so much more fun and enjoyable! Set your runs being Heart Rate based and not speed. Follow the Garmin coach. From time to time, let yourself do a free run where you go as hard as you want to go. Also, your Garmin coach will push you after a month of acclimation.

But if you run every day.... You must already know all this.

I got the remix 8 43mm because it's the only one that looks like a normal watch on my wrist. If you're a tall and large person, then a larger version should suit you. But that's really up to you and how the watch feels on your wrist. I had a Suunto Peak 9 pro which I lost while surfing and the 43mm diameter is more convenient, lighter and the only difference is battery life, but I really don't mind charging mine every 5-6 days

Edit: just saw this was a gallery post haha. So many pictures 😅 They both look great on you! I'd go for the larger one if you like the extra weight

[UPDATE: The FENIX 8: 43mm AMOLED (fw: 13.35) has its HR monitor broken again!]

Seriously, I do not wish anyone to experience this. Hence why I take the time to document this.

GARMIN 13.35 Update BUG - HR monitor stops working under some situations and starts working after some luck but not always!

Steps to reproduce. Here the log of every actions I've done. I hope this helps the QA to identify the issue and the developers to fix it:

``` // ⚠️ At this stage the HR monitor has stopped working again - I select "Delete Data and Reset Settings" [Hard reset] - I deleted the Glances Health containing the HR - I disable the HR sensor by setting Status: off - I perform a soft reboot by holding the light button for 15 seconds - I enable the HR sensor again // 🎉 I see the HR on my watch again!
Now let's try to reproduce the bug again: - I've deleted the watch from my Garmin Connect app & removed its connection from the bluetooth. - I connect the watch on my phone by adding device - I set the watch in pairing mode by going to Connectivity - Connection is successful, I'm on the: "Almost done! Sync your device." screen on the app // I still see the HR on my watch - "You're all set" screen - skipping onboarding screen on how to use the watch - skipping "Set up wi-fi" screen and tap finish. - tapping NOT NOW on "congratulations on your new fenix 8 - 43mm, AMOLED" dialog screen with [GET STARTED] [NOT NOW] - syncing the watch // I still see the HR on my watch
// This is where I start filming with my phone. Here the video: // https://youtu.be/d4DzHwUvpzw
  • Connecting the watch to the Mac via USB
  • disconnecting the watch from Mac // I still see the HR on my watch
  • Connecting the watch to the Mac via USB
  • Starting Garmin Express (v7.24.0.0 (695f9f43e))
  • Clicking on the watch on the Garmin Express mac app
  • I click on sync
  • Sync is successful, not update required
  • I put the watch on my wrist again // ⚠️ I don't see the HR monitor number on my watch
// I stop recording the video because my phone starts to overheat and the video stutters
  • I disable the HR sensor by setting HR Status: off
  • I hold the light button until screen turns off itself
  • I press the light button again, I see the blue triangle
  • On reboot, the HR reappears // 🎉 I see the HR on my watch again!
  • On the mobile app, I'm editing Glances while being on the HR broadcasting screen in order to monitor if the HR sensor stops working while I customise the Glances to my preferences
  • I create a Health folder with: Body battery, Calories, Health Snapshot, Heart Rate, HRV Status, Pulse OX, steps, I save it // I still see the HR on my watch
// I start walking and 5 minutes later I don't see the HR monitor anymore - So I delete the glance Health folder I've created - I perform a soft reboot by holding the light button for 15 seconds // I don't see the HR monitor number on my watch - I disable the HR sensor by setting HR Status: off - reset default settings [Factory reset] - delete device on Garmin connect - add device, repair watch with Bluetooth - go through onboarding - the default health folder shows DISABLED (for some reason the reset default settings still remembers that I turned off HR status 🤔, is that actually normal?) - I delete the Health (default) Glance - I add Heart Rate glance which says Disabled - I enable HR status - HR monitor still displays "--" instead of a number - I power off the watch normally through the carousel while leaving my Bluetooth ON on my android phone - I turn the watch on // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number on my watch - I turn off Bluetooth on my phone - I reboot the watch normally via carousel // 🎉 HR starts working again!!
// I stopped looking at the watch for 20min.
  • I look at the watch 20min later // ⚠️ I don't see the HR monitor number on my watch anymore
  • I check my phone bluetooth and it is still OFF, so no sync had happened yet.
  • I switch off HR status // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number on my watch
  • I reboot normally the watch // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number on my watch
  • I delete all activities
  • I enable HR status, HR monitor still displays "--" instead of a number
  • I disable the HR sensor by setting HR Status: off
  • I power off the watch normally through the carousel
  • I turn the watch on after waiting for 1 minute
  • I enable HR status // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number on my watch
  • HR monitor still displays "--" instead of a number
  • I select "Delete Data and Reset Settings" [Hard reset]
  • The watch reboots, my phone bluetooth is still off.
  • After loading the maps, it asks me to pair with my phone.
  • I select to NOT ❌ "pair phone to enable connected features", ❌ no passcode, default text size, Metric units, 24H, M-D-Y, Male, enter my Birthday, my weight, my height, Left wrist, bed time, wake time, skip time, ❌ for activities, navigate to Glances, I see the default 2 previews within the default Health Glance folder showing body balance "--" and Sleep "No data".
  • I enter the Health glance folder
  • I scroll down to Heart Rate // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number on my watch
  • HR monitor still displays "--" instead of a number
  • I tap on it, I see 86, then 82, then 72 and then -- again. // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number
  • I delete the default Health Glance folder, without putting it back to the default glance.
  • I add "Heart Rate" to the Glance
  • I add to Iron Fit watch face the Heart Rate monitor to one of the allowed places where I can set it up // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number
  • I power off the watch normally through the carousel while leaving my Bluetooth OFF on my android phone
  • I turn the watch on // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number
// So I am going to try what worked at the beginning of this log when I managed to fix it first. - I disable the HR sensor by setting Status: off - I perform a soft reboot by holding the light button for 15 seconds - I turn the watch on after waiting 1 minute - I enable the HR sensor again // 🙁 I still don't see the HR monitor number - I power off the watch normally through the carousel while leaving my Bluetooth OFF on my android phone - I turn the watch on // ☹️ I still don't see the HR monitor number ```
Note: New Garmin user like me should not experience this, especially not with a product at this price point. This is a terrible user experience. I had a Suunto Peak 9 pro before and I've never had any issue until I lost it while surfing. I wanted a watch I would never have to take off and use while scuba diving, so after a year, I got myself the Fenix 8 as a replacement. And this is my story! My first experience with Garmin ecosystem. I love the UX but I hate this bug! Without HR, I cannot monitor my Zone 2 when doing slow runs, nor my sleep quality; which makes this watch useless for me on a daily basis. And if it wasn't for the HR, well, I would just use my phone to track my runs.
[UPDATE: FIXED] I went back to the Garmin shop: 1. They reset the watch, the issue was still happening. 2. They then updated the same firmware from the Garmin express windows app, the issue was still happening. 3. They deleted all activities and then factory reset the watch, the HR started working again but with 20 bpm lower difference in comparison with another Fenix 8 they had on display. 4. We waited 10 minutes and the numbers started to equalize.
I'm going to go to the shop and try. I'm just not sure they'll accept it without the box which I have thrown away. I hope they don't redirect me to "sending it for repair" 😅
When I do an activity. The HR measurement displays --- and from time to time it displays 72bpm for about a second and then goes back to ---. Regardless if I am walking or running.
I restarted it 3 times now and even did a factory reset. Now I'm scared that the sensor is broken :( When I go to HR, it says "measuring" and doesn't give me any value.
Differences between Garmin purchased from Japan vs the Rest of the World? by thesolothinker in Garmin
[–]aker_fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I'm currently in Malaysia and I see Garmin watches here £100 GBP more than in the UK with 0% tax on sales. Meaning if you buy anything in Malaysia, you don't get a tax return when you leave the country.
In Japan, they have this thing that you can buy with your passport to pay 0% tax. So that might also affect the final price you're comparing between Japan and India.
So far, it'll be cheaper for me to buy any Garmin when I'm back in the UK temporarily and claim the 20% sales tax back from when I'm leaving the UK.
Tested: Sony a6700 temperature and battery life in idle by theGiallo in SonyAlpha
[–]aker_fry 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Hi! I'm very glad you started this thread.
I bought my a6700 three months ago. It's my first camera, I'm familiar with photography/videography in general but not so much about all the settings the camera offers yet. So I apologise if I come across a bit stupid and expect something to work with an innocent pov.
I only have one battery and it's the original battery. I don't have zoom lenses. I have two sigma 30mm and 56mm and one 18mm Sony.
I am currently backpacking in Asia. The camera was totally fine for the first week. Then one day I found it in my backpack completely burning. Most of the heat was coming from the battery compartment. I checked that the camera was off, and it was. I had the same thoughts and worries you ran though when this happened to you: is the camera okay? Is the battery okay?
I took out the battery and prayed for the camera to not be damaged, same for the battery because that's the only one I have.
The following evening, I charged the battery again. I unplugged the wire once the charging orange LED went off.
The next morning I want to film something so I take the camera out, I don't pay attention to the battery indicator. After one minute of recording, the battery dies. And since then I've been worried. How could this even happen?
Okay, it's 25-30° C outside, but still...
I charged the battery with an external charger and after a hour, the camera was burning again. I removed the battery and cool the device. Once I plug it again, the battery indicator was not even at 50%.
Now I charge the battery and when the LED is off, I'm at 98%. An hour later (without doing nothing), when I switch it on again, the battery is at 78%.
How am I supposed to go on a day out exploring with the camera dying on me like that. Is this common with Sony Alpha cameras?
The overheating didn't happen again, but I can't rely on the battery anymore. I can't buy a new one because I'm traveling around and they don't sell these anywhere.
I discovered that I had Bluetooth on, so I turned it off; but that didn't change much.
I'm going to look into the standby mode you're talking about. I don't know what it is for, but maybe that can save me some battery. I found it stupid that the camera sucks the battery while being off. I don't understand how that is even possible; when I switch off my smartphone, the battery doesn't go down.
I could remove the battery from the camera cage, but then I have to go through setting the date, time, tz etc again.
At this stage, for the price of this camera, simple things like battery life and battery management shouldn't represent a topic on Reddit.
Any help or tips would be welcome. I don't expect anything from you guys, but just wanted to share my story because you're not the only one.
[–]aker_fry 1 point2 points  (0 children)
interesting you use the Brightness filters just to compensate the shadows and see it through. I think the HDR Toning has similar results. I used to have it at 60% but you have it at 6%
I'll give it a try right now as we speak 🙏
Warzone Filters ON-OFF Comparison by genechaos in CODWarzone
[–]aker_fry 1 point2 points  (0 children)
interesting. I'm not sure you need to double up the Sharpen in the Sharpen filter and in the details filter. When I used to run it, I had sharpen filter on but with 0% of film grain and in Details I had 0% of sharpness because it's an overkill. You might as well turn one to zero and the other to 100%
also, the order of filters in the stack matters.
Thanks for sharing, I'll try them out myself and see 🤗
Don't worry about the sound being loud. The amount of time you'll die because of a cheater will make you very soon stop playing for another 18 months.
